    This week we get to demo the King Song 16X, thanks to Jason from Ewheel! I had the opportunity to try the other new entry to the popular 16" class of electric unicycle the Nikola a few weeks ago so what do I think of these two wheels and who do they compare?
    I am not sponsored by Ewheel but love their services and I buy all my EUCs from Jason, if you are starting out, I highly recommend them.

    Even in 2022, the Kingsong 16x is not just a starter wheel. I have several wheels and I always go back to the 16x.. it has the quickest acceleration of any wheel I've owned and tried, including the Begode Hero, Sherman Max, V12 , V11, etc. Not to mention it may also be the tankiest wheel one can buy.
    Check reviews of people who have bought this wheel - it's probably the best reviewed EUC of all time.. and for very good reason.

    I'm just starting in the EUC world and your videos are very helpful!
    So far Z10 is still the best-looking wheel there is, other (even this one) are still either too boxy or too shiny and just don't look good.
    Looks, of course, are not everything, but it seems like Z10 has a lot of other benefits even if it's gonna be a bit harder to master.

    • @OWGAC

    Good video, liked and subscribed ! To bad, the wheels are expensive. I started with the 16S, rode some time with it and bought a 18L. Later the 18XL came out, but for me my 18L is really good, don't have the need for a 18XL. The difference between the 16S and the 18(X)L is maneuverability. This 16X might be a winner, but I can only ride one wheel at a time. Keep your video's coming, they're great.

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  5 лет назад +1

      I think the argument this wheel makes would be that it would be the one wheel with enough capability satisfy what you were looking for by switching between the 3. It is almost too good as I see very little advantage the 18XL have over this wheel.

    Speaking of your helmets (as you mentioned in this video), you've got good design/fashion taste (including this one). Alas, they wouldn't work well in my tropical swamp (no ventilation).
    I worry about about your ski slalom helmet with the metal chin bar (POC Artic SL Spin). Looked like a cool option to me, but when I investigated further I'm not sure it would offer much protection against a faceplant given its purpose is to push ski slalom poles away. I opted for a lightweight full-face enduro helmet instead as my head protection compromise.

    The issue with buying a $2k wheel to learn on is that not everyone makes it past the initial learning curve. While it's hard for us to get our head around it, EUCs are not for everyone.
    While even a scratched up wheel has resale value, new riders may be reluctant to fork out two grand for something they may not use in the end.
    I was more comfortable buying a $900 Glide 3 (V8) as my first wheel, knowing that I'd probably want to upgrade to a $2,000 wheel within a year, than to start at that higher price point.

    • @AzizIzgin
      @AzizIzgin 5 лет назад +1

      Jon Stern totally agree with you on this.
      I started on a ks 14 s and am ready to upgrade , probably to 16x, which hopefully will be my last wheel.
      Question though , when you say “initial learning curve” and that “ euc are not for everyone “... do you mean that they buy the wheel and further down they realize that they aren’t able to learn to ride or they just feel scared for some reason... or maybe that it is not fun?
      And maybe therefor don’t want to invest in a 2k wheel?
      Also, I am afraid that after having invested 2k on a wheel, that the government here in Sweden after a year or so would change the law( no discussion yet but you never know) and then it would be like having wasted money for nothing...
      EUC and e-bikes are getting more popular and soon they will fall into the category of discussion for how they should be used. (Sorry for my bad English)

    • @JonS
      @JonS 5 лет назад +2

      Aziz Izgin Yes, my point is that anyone starting out would need a high confidence that they will stick with the hobby before slapping down $2k.
      When I bought my Glide 3 I got a Glode 2 Lite for $200 (Solowheeel deal at the time), so really that was my starter wheel (for a short while). I loaned it to a woman at work who is an avid skiier (not sure if she snowboards), and she couldn't get over the initial learning curve at all. She returned it to me saying it scared her. (This is the woman who was lucky not to kill herself in a snowmobile accident a couple of months ago!)

      I can't say enough good thing about it. it isn't design to cruise at 30mph but around the city you can easily maintain speed with car traffic without any issue, and you'll rarely hit that 31mph ceiling. seriously if I didn't have the Z10 I'll buy this wheel in a heartbeat.

      @@UStrideit depends on riding technique but for me; I would always leave reserve speed so I can react by speed up or slowing down, if you are already at max speed the only thing you can do is slow down. I am noticing that some people are going straight to the big wheel with their first purchase, no reason why you can't learn and grow into a wheel. and if you beat up your wheel, you can always buy a new shell and it'll be good as new. The 16X works really well in that scenario.

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  5 лет назад +3

      Speed wobble is IMHO largely due to road surface condition, since I am pretty use to dealing with it on the Z10; main reason why I ride with my strange stance. To me the any wobbles were either slight or not noticeable. for the most part (speed less than 26-28mph) this is a very well mannered and predictable wheel.

  • @gytrash
    @gytrash 5 лет назад +1

    Watched with special interest as either the KS 16X or Inmotion V10F are more than likely to be my next wheel when I upgrade from my humble, but superb V5F. Interesting that you liken it to a Z10 with manners. I’ve ridden a Z10 albeit briefly and was in no way put off by it, so this new King Song intrigues me. Style is an issue for me too and this (and the Z10) are the only wheels of the boxy type that I actually like. Your review has notched it up a grade, making my choice harder, but you’ve added some good info I didn’t know, like a decent pedal height. I like high footplates and other King Songs they seem rather low.

    • @danmano478
      @danmano478 5 лет назад +1

      Matt Gytrash, I also have a V5F and want to upgrade. I am interested in why you don’t consider Tesla. You don’t like the pedal hight or another reason. I am trying to decide myself. Have tried V10F: too “lazy” , compared with Tesla, in acceleration and braking. Can’t try KS 16X here in France for the moment. Thanx.

    • @gytrash
      @gytrash 5 лет назад +3

      I've not yet tried a Tesla, Dan. I know a lot of EUCers really like that wheel, but something nags about the poor quality of Gotway's engineering. To my eye they also lack good styling as well and all this tells me that they cut corners. These wheels cost a lot and I don't want to buy a wheel that is badly built and might fail on me at speed.

    • @danmano478
      @danmano478 5 лет назад

      Thank you for your reply MAtt. I appreciate your reasoning. I wish I could find a well build wheel with a reasonable high speed (45 km/h - for safety) and autonomy (> 50 km) with fast acceleration and braking (like V5F or MCM5), with higher pedals (unlike MCM5) no heavier than 19 - 20 kg. I just want to arrive fast and sound at work, then at home, have some fun carving and keep my arm attached to my shoulder, if I were to carry the wheel up stairs.

    Tough to recommend a $2k wheel for a first time rider (for the same reason you initially pointed out-a new rider will beat it into the ground). I’ve been recommending the InMotion v8 if a new wheel is the only option. It can take a beating and people won’t outgrow it as fast as a 14D because of its higher speed and bigger wheel diameter.
    Btw-if you havent noticed already, your riding posture is unbalanced, leaning the wheel hard into your right leg (pinch style), while keeping your left foot wide. Could end up with some bad wobbles while braking from high speeds. Probly not the case on your z10, but something to keep in mind when riding thinner wheels. 👍

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  5 лет назад +2

      I think the rational is that you either spend $1k for a wheel you'll eventually outgrow and let sit collecting dust (if you can't be bother with shipping/ selling) or you can pony up and get a wheel that you can just use basically for the long term. It wasn't how I got in to the sport but I have been hearing a lot of ppl going to 18XL as their first wheel with that very reason. 16X makes a lot more sense than the 18XL or the MSX I think.

    Hey Hsiang. Awesome videos man. I'm looking to get into the EUCs. Going with the less popular 'forget the beginner wheels and just for for the one you want'.
    I REALLY like the aesthetics of the Z10 and pretty much all about it (except the issues with the early units).
    So given your slight past bias to Z10. Today: given the option of buying a 2019 manufactured Z10 with a dealer that has access to parts and is giving a 1yr warranty...would you choose the Z10 or the KS 16x?

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  5 лет назад +3

      slight past bias would be an understatment since I call my vlog the "Z10 vlog"! If you are at all worrying about reliability and support I'd go with the 16x. Ninebot does not have a good track record, and I am not sure how responsive they will be even if the wheel is under warranty. But for me, design is important so I am willing to roll the dice and go for it. But keep in mind that I bought from a dealer with a proven record of responsive support (ewheel) not sure if ninebot direct would be as good..

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  4 года назад +2

      They are very different wheels as 16s is mid tier while 16x is a top end performance wheel. Unlike many other sport with euc it isn't a bad idea to jump to a top end wheel right from the get go if you don't mind the cost. As the larger motor and battery pack get you more stability, better brake and more safety margin. not a lot of downside other than the cost

    Great video. Very helpful. What is the width of the tire on the 16X? When comparing the 16X to the 16S, what are the immediate pro's and con's between the two for a EUC beginner? What would make the 16X a better beginner wheel over the 16S and vice versa? Does the 16X come with a protective sleeve or case? Thanks in advance for your time.

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  4 года назад +2

      the 16S is likely a more "beginner friendly" wheel, but only because it is lighter and likely more maneuverable, which the wider tire (3") on the 16x offset somewhat, since you can lean it over a bit more. the 16s don't offer as much room to grow as the 16x since its top speed of 22mph is slightly limiting. also, since EUC rely on motor braking, the 2000 watt motor on the 16x is going to provide better braking than the 1200 watt motor. If you can afford it I definitely recommend just going to the 16x.

I upgraded by buying the battery for the other side so besides the top speed being 28 instead of 31. It's basically the same wheel. And it's brought on alot of extra torque and the wheel feels much safer and balanced. Either way, this wheel is absolutely amazing. I love it and will keep it for a long time to come. The only reason id get another one is for suspension or alot more speed. Otherwise, this wheel does it all and will most likely go 45 miles now.

    If you weren't starting to ride unicycles, what wheel would you buy? What wheel do you recommend for a experienced user? Your channel is excellent!

      Thank you! I still think the 16x is a great choice as long as you aren't looking for speed above 31mph, if you are, the 100v Nikola is the crowd favorite although I haven't had the chance to ride it extensively

    Would you still recommend this as a good first euc 2 years later?

    Why would anyone buy a second wheel in the next 2~3 years if they already have a 16X? The 16X has one of the top performance out of all wheels on the market today. Sure the top speed is slightly slower but it still matches that of the Z10. If I didn't already have a KS 18XL I would definitely go with the 16X just for the lighter more compact design. It has a lower price tag anyway.

      In some way from KS's perspective they position the 16x strangely, like you said, the advantage the 18xl has over the 16x is so small that most people will gravitate towards the 16x I think. But who knows as I have also heard that many riders prefer the feel of skinnier tire

    Which one should I buy Inmotion V10 or this KS 16x?
    The KS 16x cost $550 more.

    • @OWGAC

      I never rode an v10 but can vouch that the 16x is a great wheel, better to get the 16x now than to struggle with having to upgrade later, which will cost you more than $550

    Dear Hsiang, I have often listened to your comments. Pretty impressive. But I would soon buy a new unicycle for long distances and comfort. I come from the Inmotion V10F and the new purchase should be between the Kingsong 18XL and 16X. Which of the two models could you recommend to me? I'm from Europe, Belgium

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  5 лет назад +1

      Hi thank you! I lean heavily towards the 16X as I feel that it is a nicely designed wheel, very compact and very stable. the 18XL did not feel like it has much advantages over the 16X, especially now they are going to start offering a seat for the 16X, that would be a very useful option for long distance riding.

    What we really need is an EUC that's easier to learn. Something with horizontal auto stability?

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  5 лет назад +2

      inmotion made a two wheel side by side EUC that can stand by itself and is easy to learn on. but it also made the wheel difficult to lean and probably teaches bad habits.

    • @OWGAC
      @OWGAC  5 лет назад +1

      Go for the KingSong, Z10 is a beautiful and weird wheel, but it has a lot of issues and parts are hard to get. KingSong is more reliable and consistent
