- This my moms favorite cookie
Its soft in the middle with the crispy edges
OLD SCHOOL TEA CAKES !!!
This is a simple recipe
My recipe is a little different than most
I use buttermilk ( that's the secret)
You cannot just eat one of these
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tsp nutmeg
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl sift flour, baking soda, and baking powder together. Add remaining ingredients and blend well. Dough should be soft
. Roll dough out onto a floured surface until approximately 1/4-inch thick.
and cover with plastic wrap and chill for 1-2 hours, Cut dough into desired shapes and bake on a slightly greased sheet for 10 to 12 minutes.
MAKES ABOUT 3 DOZEN TEA CAKES

He is a great son. Our mother should always be treated like a queen. You made her so happy but she was tickled.
You so blessed to still have your momma. My mom used to make these for us. She put a little lemon in hers sometimes. She had 10 kids and we thought these were the best, warm, out the oven, with a glass of milk. Growing up in Arkansas, we just thought it was such a treat! Thanks for the memories and RIP to my momma. She was the best!

_I see why my Mom used to bake “Tea Cakes” anytime she wanted, they are so easy and I loved them growing up. Our Pastor and “1st Lady” would drop by and my Mom would whip these cookies up in no time. She would take out her “special” Tea 🫖 Set and place the cookies on her “special” tray and serve her visitors😊. My Mom loved to serve. The love you have for your Mom reminds me of how the simplest things we do for our parents means the world to them. Both my parents are with the Lord now and this video brought back precious memories for me. My dad loved my cooking and would light up when I would take him a plate of food, I miss doing that. My mom lived with me before she passed and we cooked for each other our signature meals,it blessed her to be able to get in the kitchen and cook. These are the types of memories that flood your heart when you miss them. They will not be with us forever so we must enjoy them and bring them joy now while we can. The joy your mom expressed for her teacakes brought tears to my eyes. thank you for sharing❤

I’m so glad your enjoying and taking care of your Mother now and you won’t have any regrets. We lost my Mother unexpectedly at 57 and there was so much left we wanted to do for her. Our Mothers are so precious to us and we need to let them know every chance we get.

I would always surprise her with her favorite foods and desserts as well, from scratch, and your Mother has the same reaction like my Mother used to have. Ohhh my goodness your Mama reminds me so much of my own Mama. She loved me to cook her favorites. She passed in 2011. I was lucky to have her for 46 years so you do just what you said spend as much time as you can. I took care of mine the last 4 years of her life. It was hard but I wouldn’t change a thing. ❤️

Chef since your mom is diabetic a good flour alternative is almond or coconut flour. I’m gluten-free because it bothers my joints and I like to use a lot of rice flour products. But the almond and coconut flours have a low glycemic index and are a great alternative for mom 😁.
Also use Monkfruit Powder or Pure Maple Syrup instead of sugar.
I'm not a diabetic, but, I surely agree! I use almond flour in a lot of my recipes, just because it's much healthier, it tastes great and I love the texture in baked goods😁❤️!
