My grandmother years ago give me the color version of that but had a little bit bigger screen. The bad news is the CRT was weak in it.

The crack nearly convinces me that it's the one I had from 12 until I was a young man and one of my siblings inherited it. I programmed it so that the tv or radio would wake me because the alarm made my heart stop. lol. Having this back then made me feel rich. ID theft was not a thing back then. And as a little scout, I walked to school from six on. We knew not to take candy from strangers. WOW - GET SMART. I watched that every Saturday night in there. Thanks.

I used to watch reruns of Get Smart every night as a kid in the early 90s. Funny how it spanned generations like that.

I had this same model in high school, and into college in the late sixties and early seventies. I saw the moon landing in 1969 on it!

I see a lot of that SSN engraving down this way as well on used and older gear. Crazy! - Timmy

Interesting that people did that in the US too. Such a weird thing to do, looking at it from a 2022 identity theft perspective lol

Dammit, RUclips decided I should not be aware of this video until now. That's it, I'm using the "bell" thing!

What did you categorize it as in the Sam's, I want to fix the same unit it's giving me horizontal deflection problems.

The form factor and woodgrain of this thing combine to make a unit I simply adore. There's something so cool to me about combination clock radio and TVs. You'd think they'd be even more common nowadays with the ease of getting LCD panels (not counting, like, radios with a screen or Grace Digital Internet radio units) but semi-specialized units seem less common these days I guess. I mean, why not get an Echo Show I guess is the thinking. Still, I prefer the charm here. Very very cool unit and it's great to see a breakdown.
Very cool that you could hook your in-home cable to it, though I'm sorry to see that it's having some trouble these days. I get it - the other day after a power outage I had to re-image the third channel's microSD and set up the logo and scripts again. I couldn't live without these channels, though, they've kinda taken over my life. I have a few new basic videos showing off channel-surfing through the four options plus showing actual ad/interstitial injection (Figured out how to do that through PseudoTV - I'll probably write a tutorial on it one day since it's finicky but ultimately quite fun). Would love to get a set like I had in my youth with a dial tuner or switches and see what it can pick up from the setup.
Still haven't wired my whole house yet, but that's next in the cards since any attempts at wirelessly transmitting the signal hasn't worked particularly well. Would love to be able to do that, though.

Yeah, the SD card died on my weather channel pi and I haven't had time to rebuild it. One of the local stations moved and is interfering with the the cartoon channel, The Simpsons channel and Adult Swim channels both have one or two files that lock up the player - I need to figure out which ones and remove them. I also borrowed the Chromecast from my Chromecast channel for something else. Maybe over the holidays I'll get it all back up and running.

@@probnotstech All very familiar problems, especially isolating problem files! So many hours spent poring over logs. Frontview+ has been useful for that for me, easier to use than the Chorus2 interface to see what's playing at that very moment. I used to have one file that froze on one of my channels and one that endlessly repeated, so hey, trial and error. No rest.

SSN scratching and Drivers license number scratching on electronics was so you could get it back from the pawn shop you found it in after it was stolen from you, you could prove it was yours.

I've had one for quite a while now that needs new capacitors. Likely a hundred new ones seemingly.

Honestly, it wasn't that many. Took me an evening to do. Hardest ones were the point to point that required some creative routing of the wire leads and using heatshrink.
