Bill Rizer and Lance Bean at their best 😂 The cartridge artwork for the NES is pretty much Arnold Swartzenegger and Sylvester Stallone with their backs to a Xenomorph. The more you look at it, the similarities are pretty clear. That's really awesome, considering that if hostile aliens ever invaded our planet in the 1980s, I couldn't possibly think of any other two guys more badass than Dutch and John Rambo. 💪
I agree - my sister and I were introduced to this wonderful NES game in 1991 while we were living in Rochester, NY, and we had a friend older than my sister and I who lived in the same cul-de-sac as us, and he happened to rent Contra and its sequel Super C(ontra) occasionally. In 1994 when the NES was at its lifespan's end, we bagged some games from the long defunct H/O RC Store, a place where used games for all sorts of systems were present, and one of the games we nabbed was Contra. Days ago I got Contra: Operation Galuga on my Nintendo Switch, and much like the NES Contra, you can input the Konami Code (Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A START), but without hitting "start" - the only way you know the code's been properly entered is that you'd hear a wind chime sound.
Omg i didnt know contra was a arcade game. I never ever seen a contra in arcade all my life and im 40. I noticed the stages are very very short.
Yeah but the difficulty back then was ramped up the arcade version was my first experience with contra actually.

The arcade original is of course too short, and the animations are very crooked. However, in the arcade version you can see many interesting details that were simplified in the NES version. For example, the change of weapons in the hands of the characters, the fact that ordinary enemies run towards you with dynamite, the tank is drawn along with the driver and has another attack, a jumping robot in the original jock, which already has a throwing disc in its hand.
I have this game on the Xbox 360 & on Xbox One as part of Contra Anniversary Collection.
One of the few times the jump to home console was an upgrade imo
