Spent about an hour chatting with Ali Campbell in his dressing room after a gig in Dublin a few years back. Absolutely lovely guy. Great conversation about reggae, the skinhead era in particular. Top bloke.

Ali joined the band late 3yrs later. They need to unified
depends if its the band that rights all the songs and creates the music eh.If its easy to get a backing band to play the tunes why does his sound so shite.He quit/resigned/walked away and went solo, nobody went to see him so he nicked the name, that right there is fact.

40..from Ireland, grew up in the 80s with my Dad listening to UB40 and been listening to them since, seen them live many times. Great band
Great interview James, really good questions. Big respect to Astro and Brian also RIP both of them. Such a great a band they never got enough recognition for their musicianship and songwriting. Sing our song is loved in South Africa for example. They are absolutely amazing live too.

Been listening to them all morning, took me straight back to the 80s and 90s.
Saw them in Castle in Germany 91, I think. They invited us back to an after party but because our husbands were soldiers we didn’t go. I was gutted as you can imagine!!!!

I never did get to see Astro live on stage, but his rapping on stage was top class (youtube). He looked like a lovely bloke too, RIP Astro. Im going to try and see Alli on tour this year, hopefully. 🎶

Ali Campbell and astro were the 2 main ones for me loved Ali Campbell from the first time I saw UB40 original band members his voice is pure class and astro loved his unique dance moves and his toasting and the fact he could sing as well and if it ain't Ali Campbell it's not UB40 and can I say when astro was still with us if you were going to see UB40 if it said UB40 ft Ali astro and Mickey virtue at least you knew you were getting 2 of the original band members on vocals that's why I would say to anyone who wants to listen to Ali Campbell on vocals it will always say UB40 ft Ali Campbell big love Ali Campbell loved your voice since the first time I heard it keep going your voice is class xx
Best band ever. Seen them gig loads, but my fave time was sneaking/fronting backstage for pics. Torn between watching this right now, or playing the Baggariddim album ❤️💛💚

Birminghams been lucky with having 2 international reggae bands known all around the world ub40 & Steel pulse both from different sides of Birmingham & a few solo reggae artist to also known around world to put Birmingham on the world's map glad to have grown up listening to these bands & artist through out the 80's & 90's.

Absolutely loved this. UB40 is all I listened to growing up through my teens and still love their songs now. Had all the albums on cassette tape. Thankyou for this James another great Postcast. You always have brilliant guests.

Brilliant interview, it makes a change to have someone ask good questions and who clearly loves who he is interviewing. UB40 without Ali and Astro are not UB40, Duncan is an awful singer.

Being from Birmingham & growing up in Handsworth Saturday mornings were spent travelling into town to Don christies records wicked record shop bought loads of reggae records from outta their.

They say the 2-Tone groups were recycling ska music - yet UB40 covered loads of classic Jamaican reggae tracks.

Great interview I’ve loved UB40 from the start. I seen them in Glasgow Apollo early 80’s. Got a picture with them at the end of the gig.
The early UB40 stuff was brilliant. Another superb podcast James, essential viewing 👍
True, the later material wasn't bad though. Never forget catching a lesser known UB40 in 84 (Austin, Texas)opening for the Police, not gonna say they blew the Police away, but both bands blew the roof off the place even though it was an outside venue! I've been a grateful fan since!! RIP Astro and Brian Travers!!

Saw the original UB40 line up in 1994. Absolutely amazing concert. Ali can never be replaced. Gutted they split. Wish they’d rejoin together. Great podcast thank you. 👌

Ub40 was a huge part of my life growing up they were huge in Ireland. I'm 46 now and I still love them to bitsthey should have been a lot bigger then they got. Please don't make me cry one of my favourites. Great interview
Bigger than they got? I think your forgetting just how big they were if that's the case, they were hugeeeee mate lol 100% respected in the music world and more top 40 hits than most bands, even the Beatles I think, most of their albums were massive Aswell

James wow mate! Can't believe you've had UB40 on. What a band, we grew up in the '80s and they were my favourite band. When I eventually got married my wife as a surprise for my birthday took me to see them live at Sheffield Arena and they were unbelievable. Great interview mate and nice to see you have so many different guests coming on telling their story. Keep up the great work James and glad to see your fighting fit mate.

Sadly me and my mrs were dipped into thinking we was booking to see UB40 but when we got there and heard a terrible rendition of red red wine I was 3 songs into the set and we left. Sat in the car outside Sheffield 02 and smoked while listening to labour of love and had more fun. These 2 are the voice of ub40 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

It's always a shame when bands break up acrimoniously, especially when friendships go back to school days and more so where family is concerned but remember, there is always two sides to a coin.
Love UB40 it’s impossible my favourite, really enjoyed this interview as never really seen a UB40 interview before but listened to UB40 for years and years.both nice genuine blokes still down to earth great interviews James made a nice change .
My favourite all-time group,since I was 11yrs old my go-to every time, just went to my first UB40 Concert at 47 I'm sad I missed Astro but loved every second. I can't wait to go again❤️💛💚RIP Astro
