I read a lot about history and WW2. Royal Enfield had a cast iron engine because if could be cheaply produced in war time economy. Aluminium was expensive and was reserved for military aircraft. Cars, jeeps and bikes all were made from iron or steel during those days. The engine of Royal Enfield was designed to be low rpm , generating taurque as its purpose was to carry heavy equipment over rough terrain. It was NOT built for speed. It was a war horse. The engine was purposefully designed to have loose tolerances, and unlike Japanese and German engines, it worked in sandy and muddy conditions and was soldier proof. There are stories of British and Indian soldiers telling of bullets performance in African, middle eastern and Indian deserts. It would continue to run even with dirties of fuels. For a long time, Royal Enfield was the only bike that could operate in all conditions, from Ladakh high altitudes to desert conditions to country side trails. Speed didn’t not matter. It was those attributes that all the doodhwalas and vegetable vendors loved. I inherited my father’s 1970 bullet. Its kilometres have restored from zero,. And hopefully someday my son will have it. My father used to say that, during 60s and 70s, one could not buy new bullet because of all the sales going to police and military. He had to wait 3 years to get his bike. So back then if one had a new bullet, he was either a military officer or a police inspector. The brake and gear livers were on opposite sides. The kick sometimes back fired and many people had broken ankles by improper techniques to start. And due to its cast iron frame, it was heavy and only strong could handle it. Hence the bullet’s macho reputation.
Thank you so much sir for such a valuable information share with us. I just love your amazing content. I know English but I am more comfortable in hindi too. So I humbly requested you to make videos in hindi language . At last, you are rock please continue I learn so many things
But Royal Enfield build quality and chasis strength to handle its own body parts weights is a too weak amd wrost And iski sales credit lenders ki wajah se badhi hai as you know india mai mostly lower middle class log hi hai
