Those self assembling robots are INCREDIBLE. Fuck, they already work so well. Give them inductive charging and a pad in the room to charge on after tasks, perhaps with some nice high energy density batteries and you have unbelievably useful helper robots.
This and the salamander video were awesome, and I really like Kishore's interview style - I look forward to hearing him in a more free-form, less trade-show kind of scenario too.
Lamp Ray robot reminds me of Terminator Salvation's eel-shaped aquatic Terminators. The Modular Robot is like a precursor to Transformers' Cybertronian DNA which can combine and transform into other objects like in the movie Transformers 4 : Age of Extinction. All it needs to do now is make 1) lots of them, 2) make them smaller, & 3) more complex programming for more shapes, movements, and functions.
Im planning on going to school for B.S. Comp. Engineering Tech, I hope that biorobotics have some room for me in the future. I love mechanics but I feel like engineering and coding will take me farther, which would help me understand the underlaying process/functions of biomechanics.
The last one reminds me of those nanobots in Transformers, where the panther robot spits out those balls which expand to insectiods and then transform themselfs to one big infiltration robot.
the logical follow up to BEAM robots....the challenge is to develop a BEAM Base that exactly follows commands like a well trained dog.... there have benn "wild beam bots" and tame digital bots but no tamed beam controlled by a digital operator.
Kishore Hari is a cool dude and I don't think he is Will's replacement by any means. He was introduced as the director of the bay area science festival. Cool guy with great questions! Would love to see more of him! Oh.. By the way lol Please post more videos about vr! :) Good video!
Don't want to sound rude or anything. But I believe I saw many of bots like these, watching Discovery Channel some considerable amount of years ago..Still cool, though.. But, for me, it feels like the time passed and we're still at the same place.
I can already see the box bot being the next stage of exosuits so paraplegics andpeople doing physical therapy can sit in a chare that moves their limbs for them reventing limb atrophy
the guy who is asking most of of the questions probably has an ulterior motive than just learning. his questions are very technical.. i dont feel like explaining myself further but he is probably working for some nations government agency as a contractor. this is a theory btw :3 but it could be true!!!
I am a student of mentioned EPFL institute, I'm currently finishing my bachelor in MicroEngineering, which will open the door to a master in Mobile Robotics.
+killroy42 Nope, walking isn´t called driving. Driving on wheels is a efficient way of locomotion on surfaces suitable for it but with the worst adjustment to different terrains (try drive up a tree or mountain and you know driving isn´t the best way of movement... :p).
Hmm, "walking" in general isn't gonna get up a tree or mountain either. So now yo're adding constraints. Most efficient way of legged locomotion perhaps? But now you're constrained to using legs...
+Alejandro Apellido I thought about strandbeests (by Theo Jasen) which use the Jasen's linkage for legs. Or also in klank's linkage which I guess is less efficient (since the feet go very high) (which actually make it better for an irregular terrain) but I'm aiming for theost efficient mechanism in a flat surface. Any idea?
"microbots!" from big hero 6 is really good, the third presentation bot is pretty close to that.
+Divine Maximus Pretty much the same general idea for their locomotion.
"i spill wasabi on my shirt one time people"---Wasabi
Genuinely one of the best videos you guys have uploaded in a while. Thanks!
Kishore is great. Hope we'll see more of him.
That last one is pretty damn amazing.

I agree, this was am amazing show! Robots like the lamp ray one are mesmerizing to watch!
Excellent video. Thank you.
Excellent vid, really interesting and Kishore is an excellent additional presenter
Kishore's great at interviewing!
Auke seems to be pretty interested in realising his dreams of being an exotic snake dancer.

Each block underneath of this robot could be equipped with a propeller to have a fast synchronized smooth movement in water.
It's awesome to see stuff you know from real life on tested...XD

They really put in a lot of effort!
But do we really need such robots?
you have to watch the christmas robotics videos. They're great and sooo cute.
The last one I thought was the one with the most potential. Nice video really enjoyed it!
1GHz is pretty hefty in terms of processor beefyness. many small robotics and sensors can be utilized from 1-20Mhz processors nowadays.
but if they just stuck Raspberry Pis in them, it's easy
Really good stuff. Inspiring for young engineer's.
Kishore- those where excellent question. You asked questions I better were not being asked by other interviewers. 👍🏻
Norm, can i just say your skin is looking so much better, congrats!
Camera girl in the background at the lamprey thing needs to learn how to hold a camera :p
And to choose different leggings.
Great video. "A whole lot more science" sounds awesome!
Excellent little spot, thanks very much.
Norm!! You could build a Tachikoma like bot with that last one! Get your Ghost in the Shell on man.
the last one is so cool

more of that guy
17:18 Dammit cameraman!

*hears the terminator theme playing*

Cheetah cub looks like a cute pet dog u can bring for a walk
High quality robots this time.
Im excited for the future of tasted
last 1 was best
Those are great robots! They're so inspiring to me!
now if one of those lamprey/snake things could just hold the wood plank in place while I get my tools..
they should use the cat robot locomotion to make a robot cat pet !
that doggy is so cute
I love everything in this video!
The one in water was the best.
Too cool! Another really great video!
have you guys made your own robots if so i cant wait to find if you put a video up about that
thanks guys, pretty interesting to learn about this upcoming trend :) nice vid
And soon we will all be rushing inside before dark to avoid the Dinoborgs!
"Dose this unit have a soul?"
+00meat Plays Of course the Omnimessiah provides Machine Spirits to all good machines to serve Mankind and be served in turn.
+00meat Plays no but Im pretty sure there's a ghost somewhere in that shell ;P
+00meat Plays It's a snake. No feet = no soles.
"do you have a soul?"
can u produce a soul and what is its structure?
the last modular robot reminds me of nanobots from big hero 6

why is it that this vids always in my que when i have seen it already? YT is f'ed up against hate the way the new page looks ..
love this video thanks guys
Robot cats, Cool. Next step VOLTRON!!
Where can I get one!!!?? imagine putting one in your friend swimming pool!
Excellent vid!
the last one was the best one by far. the others are unoriginal and impractical.
I can already see the box bot being the next stage of exosuits so paraplegics andpeople doing physical therapy can sit in a chare that moves their limbs for them reventing limb atrophy
Thank you
Actually the world is growing
replicant snakes and doc ock arms, nice
Imagine a Robotic Anaconda as a house pet

It's famous in some parts of the world
These things are terrifying, not because they look scary (because they don't) but because what they may become/be used for in the future.
Most of them are meant for domestic and rescue stuff, nothin to be scared of
Dirtyy Pantaloons They can be adapted for any uses.
It looks like we still have quite a LONG time...
Cat418 None of them can do any harm
Dirtyy Pantaloons Quote "future"
One step closer to a Zoid.
I want a bio robot!
very high tech 2 head pleasure toy.
the cheetah one has kitten mittens
Excellent
Amazing.
A última invenção foi a mais dinâmica, mas todas foram geniais.
I believe you are referring to Zoids
Kishore is a cool dude
Norm moves his head alot.
Welp, we've gone somewhere, but not where nor how far I'd like to be...
19:50 aperture science panels :P
These guys need to get together with JPL and make cooler robots to send to mars.
i kept waiting for one of them to drop the robots and shatter it into a thousand pieces.... it didnt happen
I saw enough Horizon Dawn LPs to know how this will end
Can I buy these last ones?
how can this video has dislikes?
Hmmm, so kishore is Indian
soo cool
Who is this new Indian? I like him. He should do more videos.
nearly every robot or drone for the last 20 years has been claimed to be useful for search and rescue in disaster zones... what do we actually use?
Rob K people
It's still a work in progress field, the fact that the technology isn't totally reliable/usable now doesn't mean we should stop researching on it.
I've seen Terminator. I know where this leads ;)
17:17 dammit, camera guy
Did Will get a tan?
Practical applications?
18:06
Tiberian Sun visceroid
if I want to create robots like this should I study bachelor in mechatronics
I am a student of mentioned EPFL institute, I'm currently finishing my bachelor in MicroEngineering, which will open the door to a master in Mobile Robotics.
Anyone else see Jim Halpert @ 16:20?
cool toys
and if you don't know how to do it, I'll show you how to walk the bot.
Look's a bit like DAPA's version lol
Chinese kids will be making these for hobby king to sell by thanksgiving
Is there a "most efficient walking mechanism"?
+Alejandro Apellido I think it's called driving ;) i.e. wheels...

+Alejandro Apellido I thought about strandbeests (by Theo Jasen) which use the Jasen's linkage for legs. one step closer to blade runner
Well, hello there.
Zoids!
