    The problem with listening to Pink Floyd is that one song generally flows into the next. When you try to listen to individual songs on RUclips, you often get clumsy cut offs. Each of their albums were really meant to be listened to in their entirety.

    This is from my favorite album by them... you've heard 2 songs from it now... this and "Wish You Were Here". Now you need to do "Welcome to the Machine" and "Shine on You Crazy Diamond". Problem is the Shine on song is in parts and makes up most of the album. It starts the album with 5 parts that are 13:32 long and then ends the album with parts 6-9 that is 12:28 long. Sometime when you want to chill out sit down and listen to the whole album beginning to end.
    edit: The end of this song turns into a transition into the next song "Wish You Were Here". If you listen to the album this song turns into being played on a radio and someone changes the channel and you here a couple other things and then it centers on the next song and fades in.

      This is an album that should be played beginning to end, but a little known facts that gets lost in the technological advancements was that it was released on 8 track (if anyone remembers those things). Since the 8 track tape was played as a continuous loop, there is a instrumental part that connects Shine On You Crazy Diamonds parts 6-9 at the end of the album to Shine On You Crazy Diamonds 1-5 at the beginning of the album, and the David Gilmore guitar solo is really nice. Sadly, that bit is lost on albums, cassettes, CDs, downloads, and any other format because they don't play as a loop.

      ALL Pink Floyd albums should be experienced from beginning to end. However, the first time you hear a song like this one, it takes you on an emotional journey of sound upon sound as it tells it's story. Then you listen to the whole album, and that song takes on a whole new meaning in the greater context.

    The first time I listened to this song it was on a 350 watt per channel stereo system cranked up to about 105 decibels. If you listen to the album and the transition between this song and the next there is an abrupt drop in the volume and it suddenly sounds like a tinny radio (or a tweeter). It scared the hell out of me that I'd blown the woofers and midranges in my speakers. LMAO

    • @dopiaza2006
      @dopiaza2006 2 года назад

      Have you noticed most stereos these days are a few thousand 'watts' but sound like shit? 350 real watts is a LOT of sound!

    • @elgonwilliams7624
      @elgonwilliams7624 2 года назад

      @@dopiaza2006 There are lots of ways of measuring wattage. RMS used to be the standard that most audiophiles went by. It was the most conservative. In the way most places advertise my stereo was probably 2000 watts or more.

    You guys have got to get to the group"America" they were huge in the 70s and early 80s. with greats songs like MAGIC, TIN MAN, VENTURA HGHWAY and my favorite HORSE WITH NO NAME, which I listened to on my tiny little transistor radio in 1971, when I was 13. The lyrics on their songs are some of the best I have ever heard.

Plus, imagine how long it would take for them, working parents of three kids,to try to edit a 60 min video. Just thoughts.

    The album Wish You Were Here was about their struggles with fame and the music industry (Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar) after the enormous success of Dark Side of the Moon, while also missing their former bandmate Syd Barrett, who had a profound mental breakdown (Wish You Were Here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond).

    Pink Floyd is legendary, they are a Vibe. I've been a huge Pink Floyd fan since 1973, I've seen twice in concert, one time seeing The Wall. They have sold more albums than any other Rock band in history, with the only exception being The Beatles.
    David Gilmour, (Pink Floyd guitarist and lead singer), plays guitar like no other guitarist on the planet! His expressiveness and inventiveness are really incredible, he speaks through his guitar, you can feel the emotion, you feel the passion oozing from his fingertips! I'm a guitarist myself and I can tell you David Gilmour is a very special guitarist.

    I remember purchasing this album with some early teen birthday or chore money, can't remember which, and then waiting for my parents to go out so that I could get my first listen, alone, a few pillows on the livingroom carpet, loud on the record player. It was like torture waiting for them to have a reason to go out together, but worth it so that I could listen loud and without interruptions.

    This song is of course from the Wish You Were Here album, which followed Dark Side of The Moon by two years. Dark Side of The Moon Was Still on the charts when this was released. (and would continue to chart for another eight years) Dark Side of The Moon was of course a mega hit, and Wish You Were Here, really tells the story of the immense pressure the band was put under by their label to try and duplicate that success. My favorite line in this song is "oh by the way, which one's Pink?"

    Every song by Floyd is gold+, but this song and album are right up there with the best ever - brings back memories of first hearing it when released, and Gilmour was one of the main influences in my early guitar playing years. Btw - this is a rare version / mix, as it sounds a little different (but still incredible) and it has an extra 4 bars of guitar solo that are not on other version. I had purchased the 8 track, and also a re-release of the album that had this 'extended' version. Anyway, hope you continue your PF journey, there are so many amazing songs, and they are the best band of all time..
