- 1973 Suzuki GT550 Indy 3 Cylinder 2 Stroke First Ride in 10 Years!
After a long nap, it's time to wake up this GT550. In the previous episodes of this series, I cleaned the carburetors, restored the gas tank and installed a new battery, air filters, fuel line with filter and petcock. Then, I started the bike up on the 3rd kick but it smoked like a choochoo train indicating possible blown crank seals. Watch this video to see me take this bike on its first test ride and see if it continues to smoke or not!

Oh, I so miss my GT380s, they were my favourite bikes of all time 😞
That has a rubber mounted engine. Check if mount rubbers are bad; I think they are. I have Kwaka H2 750 . Slightly over bored. Love that thing; it's gorgeous !!!!
I'll check the rubbers, thanks.
Keep the magic 2 strokes alive, fantastic another one resuscitated.
You a 2 stroke hero 😂🏆🎖🏅well done, people must not scrap these machines.
Hey my young friend, I rode one of those Suzuki 550 triples back in the day( early 80s) they were quick! New style tires are a must! Gear position indicator was a Suzuki trade mark!!
Yes ! New tyres.
I sold my Gt550 because it drank more than a sailor that hasn’t seen land for 6 months.
Just remember - the oil feed works parallel to the throttle!
eg; the engine is doing 5000rpm on a closed throttle means it’s getting a supply of oil that’s just sufficient for tick-over. Please think about this.
With the engine and ignition turned off you can set the oil-pump setting and you will see after having removed the oil-pump cover what happens when you open and close the throttle.
Best wishes from Düsseldorf
Sher 😉
I would like to see a full restauration on it😎verry cool bike.grtz from brussels europe
Sounds amazing. Put on new tires.
I love 2 strokes I had a suzuki rgv 250 🥰 a 250cc v twin 2 stroke great bike lots of fun to ride
bro that wheelie fail cause the tire's too hard/old is the reason why i gave you thumbs up lmao
That's my bike. It hadn't been ridden in almost 30 years. Tim told me you could get it running. Great job
Wow, 30 years? That's crazy, I thought it was more like 10! Well it was in surprisingly good shape for not being ridden in 30 years. It runs great, you should be getting it back very soon!
New tires Mason and then take it on the highway and top it up,wanna see if it does more than my kawasaki kz750 twin.
Not going to do anything too crazy, just a few rolling burnouts 🤷🏽♂️👀😂
So Did You buy it? In the last video You were working on it for a Friend.
No I didn't buy it, I'm still working on it for a friend.
My Army buddy in the mid 1970s had a Suzuki 380 triple. It was a nice bike, especially with it's Vetter Windjammer frame mounted fairing. I owned a Suzuki 500 Titan twin two stroke. I would love to have any 70s Suzuki two stroke again. Barn finds are rare.
I would like to see some new tires, and foam it up with some good cleaner and a good wash. Then ride it like you stole it :)
Sounds like a plan! 😃
i had one of these, a very good road bike. it performs well, minimum maintenace. all you need.
I absolutely love my gt750! I've actually never opened it up because it is scary fast
I have a 1972 gt550 in blue, its hands down my favorite ive ever had, sound and power is amazing.
Great stuff! Love watching all your videos!
I almost bought one of these, lifted it in the first 3 gears on 19th street in Tacoma. decided not to buy it! SARIEST bike I ever rode. I used to do a lot of ton up! That Kazuki 550 was scary with out doing a ton!
These were tame compared to Kawasaki Mach III. You can't rev out a 2 stroke straight away like that! Handling? How can you tell. You barely went around a corner. Interesting video though. I always liked the look of these but knew they had poor ground clearance and were not that quick.
Back in the 1970s l owned a GT380 and after 4iding it for a while traded it for a GT750 and did several long trips on the GT750 put 100000 kilometres on it in three years and lrode it everywhere Adelaide Melbourne and my best memory was cruising at 160 kph 100 mph for you yanks across the Hay Plains also the Suzuki GT550 would have inner tubes because of the spoked wheels and my GT380 had the digital gear indicator and they were not dangerous to ride if rode correctly they weren't death traps stop reving the guts out of it mechanical sympathy goes a long way and what's this obsession with smoking the rear tyre l probably was your age when l rode my Suzuki GTs and l never smoked the tyres and ruden properly they can be a lot of fun not ridden like a Richard Cranium
Two stroke premix and two stroke oil in the auto lube, and you wonder why it's smoking and bogging, seriously
I had a blue GT550. Excellent bike 1975. Had it for four years and never let me down here in England.
Nice job on getting it running, if you can get Bridgestone BT45 tyres then this is a good option. I remember back in the 80's a friend of mine had the GT380 was a fun bike as well, keep up the good work
Music . I left a 380 at my mum's house because I was in a flat, came round for dinner one weekend and out of the window the rain cover was missing, I thought she'd moved the bike so I asked how as it was so heavy? She told me she thought I didn't want it so she gave it away. I let her live.
That things freaking awesome, I want one 😩
Just purchased a 1975 550 and a 1970 t500. True time capsules!
Wait till it rains gear position says gear 17 or 33 =). God I miss my gt550.
Yup, new tires and send it!
I owned one years ago they're also indestructible
right on
First ever "big bike" (not counting mopeds and dirt bikes) i ever drove.
At 16, borrowed it from a friend. It hade issues with the 3rd cylinder only kicking in at higher rpm... He said "take it easy". I had the front wheel of the ground with in the first 100m or so. 😅
He didn't say a word when i handed it back to him... i do remember my hands shaking like mad and having trouble climbing off it... 😎
@@leifkarlsson323 hahaha that's crazy!!
I have a 1974 green and is scary fast.
I had a GT550A, the version with twin discs & SRIS. It took corners like a drunk carthorse on roller blades.
DO NOT EVER SHUT THE THROTTE OR EVEN LIGHTLY TOUCH THE BRAKESS MID CORNER ON A GT550, because the bike will sit up and force the steering straight!! This is mainly due to the flexible frame and swingarm (I had a Dresda box section swingarm installed on my GT550A to save on underwear cleaning bills).
.
Thanks for the tip, I will remember that. I can't spare any underwear.
Great bikes, gotta love a 2 stroke
🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅😆
It's been two weeks already, my friend.
@@randypullman1155 I was on vacation. I'm planning to upload a video this Saturday. It's good to see that people actually want me to upload still, thanks Randy!
How much $?
You probably had oil in the crank, that had to burn out, from sitting so long
You’re absolutely right, that crankcase was full of fuel and oil. Needed an Italian tune up.
Yeah I thïnk that is the case as well.
where is the na-t wagon, did it blow up?
@@ineedanasprin3172 no, is in the background of this video, still drives great. It does need new head gaskets and a pilot bearing though. I'll make more videos about it soon.
@@GoldGuyRides I want to do this with mine but I want a closed deck block with the 2.5 because cylinder 4 heat soaks pretty easily apparently.
Can’t believe you rode that bike that way after stand for 10 years / not even knowing if the oil pumps are working correctly and it’s not even your bike !!!! 😮
The owner must be pulling his teeth out , gold guy you have shocked me , no respect at all , 😮
Watch the previous video, I checked the oil pump and it is working correctly. Also, I have premix in the tank for good measure. Think before you comment.
@@GoldGuyRides
That’s just part of my comment , a classic bike like that being abused in that condition , trying to wheelie it and spin the rotted out tyre .
Just my opinion mate , not rite
@@matwom 😂😂😂. I'm just riding it how it was designed to be ridden.
@@GoldGuyRides
I can agree with that but at that level of repair/ restoration it’s a disaster waiting to happen to either you or the bike or both .
Iv restored many bikes but that was just silly my friend . Keep up the good work and be safe .
No, you are thrashing it like an idiot. These were not a performance bike. @@GoldGuyRides
Nice! Pour some c12 in it!
Thanks Randy! What's C12? Never heard of it
What air pump is that?
Harbor freight special
that’s kool 👍I’ve always been Suzuki even the old GT 125 was a little screamer ,the x7 250 was the first 250 to hit 100mph ,and my favourite are the rgv250 and the rg500 😱🏴arteta out / Joey Barton in 😃🏴🏴🏴🐑
