I SAW HER MANY MANY TIMES IN MANY DIFFERENT CITIES AND CONCERTS, AND SHE WAS A SUPERB COLORATURA ARTIST OF VERY HIGH ORDER OF PERFECTION IN ALL SHE DID, AND HER AUTOBIORAPHY "A DEBUT AT THE MET" IS A MUST FOR ALL HER MANY FANS. RIP.
She is 29 years old here and prime which lasted a very long time due to a great technique that never failed her, she sang with so many greats, even with Corelli! recorded this opera with Bjoerling and Merrill in 1956 complete on RCA LP's now on CD's. RIP.----- Born Roberta Peterman, 1930, Bronx NY.
@@magicmonkichi I heard Regis Philbin say " Vissi Dee Artay". So few people have not just never heard of the aria, but have no clue how to pronounce another language.
I'm impressed you posted this one! Ed regularly featured some of the greatest stars of opera on his show, and I'd love to see more of them doing both opera and pop songs (as some opera singers sang both). Thank you very much for this! Please also post Jan Peerce and James Melton, as well as Teresa Brewer (who is not an opera singer but was also on this episode, and is one of my favorite pop singers).
"Bert" was a fixture on TV in the sixties. Dozens of appearances on Ed, Mike and Merv. Opera stars like Beverly Sills or Jan Pierce were quite common on variety shows. I listened in wonder to the incredibly high notes they could hit and sustain, but never could appreciate opera. Peters was a "Coloratura Soprano". They can sing notes above high C. To me, it sounded like bird calls😉 I guess I never got it.
Were you able to appreciate it when opera singers sang pop songs on Sullivan and the other shows? I always love that! Jan Peerce and James Melton did a lot of popular songs on Sullivan, as well as opera, and they were all fantastic!
@@TomElvisSmith I enjoyed their pop versions, but have say that I don't remember any of them. 😢 For Opera, part of it is language. I don't know Italian or the plot of Rigoletto, so it is hard to get involved.
@@MostlyBrenda Ah, that is very interesting! I don't understand Italian either, but I just enjoy the powerful singing and beautiful melodies of the music. I'm not really into full-length operas, but I enjoy arias and solos from operas very much, even more so the Neapolitan songs!
Too Bad Ed Sullivan never convinced Julie Andrews to really show her singing chops on this show...she merely sang some operetta pieces, which although were incredible, it wasnt her top register. Thanks for posting Roberta Peters.

One of the greatest coloraturas of all time. What a tremendous voice, technique and stage presentation!!! Brava and RIP!!
Agreed.
The singer is magnificent as is this tv show. World's best display of the very best talent.
Look her neck. NO TENSION 👑👏
Greatest Gilda ever!!!!!!!!
Ms Peters was my intro to opera. I saw her many times and we became very close friends. A lovely lady and a superb singer!!
Magnificent
Excellent. Loved it.
"Cara Nome"??? Caro nome is the right!!! My God!!
lol...I love his Italian pronunciation! hehehe.

@@sgnmath1234 And they wouldn't ever think to find out before they have to say it.
Shameful!
😂 yes, it's funny the lack of care and preparation from the actual presenter 😂😂😂😂😂 ...he had no shame, hahahaaaa

Mostly Brenda What world the world be, if not for the beautiful song ( and of Amphibians) of birds? 😊

@@MostlyBrendaYou can always look them up. Just the aria and it's context will do,you only need a broad overview of the story.
Oh my..🤌

Gyönyörű hang! Ő még úgy énekelt, hogy tudta, nem lesz attól erőteljesebb a hangja, ha a száját annyira kitátja, hogy még a gyomrába is belátni.

Please, we are used to that Americans do not know italian phonetics and pronouncing, but it is " CarO nome"
Video is fab, thanks a lot!! 🌟🌟🌟
Standard singing technique: All vowels are 'ah.'
Blooper when they catch another camera man in the way
Possible,y the greatest, criticised for being 'shrill". I disagree, she was tremendous
Roberta Peters, a voice that could injure you.
marilyn michaels does a pretty funny impersonation of her on this show. check it out.
"CarO" non "CarA
CARO not CARA
The voice American idol should take some notes. How in the hell do you train yourself to perform at that level?
You train under a teacher(s).
For several years.
