These are very hard to get in Canada as well. I was lucky and recently got my hands on an FS5 (made in Japan). I have several Martins (D-18 MD, 000-15m, 00-28, DR Centennial) and this of the same quality at a very reasonable price. The tone is a little brighter than a Martin but woodier than a Taylor. They are extremely well made with top quality materials and feel amazing in your hands. The neck is silky smooth. Comes with a very nice hard case as well. Highly recommended!! This is a keeper ....
Great to see the passion in your eyes and body when playing the first song! I appreciate the wisdom that you instill (Let it go!). Keep up the good work. PS - these guitars are popular all right. Pricing for red label in Australia has increased compared to 6 months ago.
@@TheGuitarSpaSingapore I recently retired after 40+ years in the auto garage, I was an auto mechanic (my hands were always so dirty and injured to have done both the auto repair job and the guitar playing task at the same time). I will wait till beginning of Sept. they should be here by then. It was the long wait time that motivated me to get 2. One will be for somebody else that does not need to wait (for a small charge.) I am not finding it common for stores to have an in store (as part of standard inventory) selection of Red Label guitars to pick over. This 1400.00 or so price is a sweet spot for me (I do not have an insider way to avoid paying retail, I did get my D16E for a good bit less than suggested retail though.) Can't cry too loud or hard about paying retail, no other choice for me. I did think we would hear some "why there is no inventory" details. That’s great .. congrats .. there is a world shortage of these red label yamaha .. however I’m told that stocks should regulate in from March this year
I've changed the pins on mine, where do I find the saddle you bought for yours? It's so hard finding the exact saddle I need, I don't know the measurements, company, item number.. And is changing out the nut necessary
Hi, nice review, but i think it would be great to do a comparaison between the FS3 and FS5 with the same setup, bone saddle and nut, and ebony pins. I wonder if the wood pickguard on the FS5 is a good idea. Maybe it is too thick and that would means less vibration. Thx.
I have the FS5. The pickguard is thin, and though I don't have an FS3 to compare it to, I don't think it adversely affects resonance in any way. I've only had it for a few weeks now, but it's really a great player - and for $1300 I feel pretty confident that I will never need a "better" acoustic (though take as a disclaimer I am primarily an electric player, and will be using the FS5 mainly for recording - where the OM size will sit better in the mix; I could imagine needing a dreadnought or jumbo if I were a solo live performer). The bone nut and bridge pins may have some affect on tone, but having watched MANY videos (though again, haven't played the FS3) I'm not sure it's that big of a difference. I was looking primarily at the FS3 originally, but I had the money for the 5, and it really all came down to "am I going to be fully satisfied with this guitar, or will I want to 'upgrade' in a year or two?" So I picked the Japanese built one, and couldn't be happier. All that said, I might have been happy with the Chinese-built 3 as well. The plastic nut and pins probably wouldn't be as big of a deal recorded, where I can control EQ and add effects, but I might hear/feel the difference in the room. In the end, I know the FS5 is a damn fine guitar, and I suspect the FS3 probably is as well. And honestly? Even though I don't think it changes the tone, I think the wood pickguard looks kinda weird, and would prefer the plastic 😂 - it was everything else that sold me on the FS5.
@@VinceWhitacre Thanks for the review. The bone saddle is a must have. It really changes the way the guitar vibrate. Plastic saddle gives a muddy sound. Even de pins have their importance. There are videos on YT where the guys compare all types of pins (plastic, ebony, mahogany, bone, ivory, bronze...). The sound is very different. My preference goes to ebony and bone. Concerning the wooden plastic guard, i saw a guy that removed it. Under it is a normal plastic guard. He says he gained some vibes. About China vs Japan, i've been in a shop testing both of dreadnough FG-3 vs FG-5. and i heard a big différence. Of course the japanese version has bone saddles, but also it look better (wood) and feel better in the hands, like if we can "feel" all the perfection of japanese handcraft !

@TheGuitarSpaSingapore thanks for info, i would appreciate your feedback on following: I have tryed csf3m in shop and like it (but it's not like wow, its more like it is a very good guitar), but dont have opportunity to try the FS3 without ordering it first.
