R1100R rider here: My front brake master cylinder is 22 years with 150,000 miles on it. I'm in southern California so my bike never sits the winters in storage. The master cylinder is in great condition. The only problem is the sight glass looks cracked and brittle, but doesn't leak as of yet.
Another great video, just in time - I'll be pulling both K100 from storage, one of the first things I was going to check, that and oil through plug holes before moving the pistons. Thanks Chris!
When I changed out my brake lines, I installed Spiegler lines. Front and Rear Brake Master Cylinders were shot. Plunger Seized up. I wish I could have saved them. I ended up spending the $$ for replacements.
Hello, I am also on the maintenance right now. I'm also changing the brake lever for one made of aluminum. There you have to remove the screws on the lever. That is, unscrew. So you probably then set the sniffing game. Do you know it too? Adjustment of the sniffing play? have read that one must eisntellen the hand brake play and then a half turn further in screwed. How does such a handbrake game look like? and how do you notice when it is the right time? I hope you have been able to gather experience.
I think this guy could be BMW R bikes is our best fixer of common problems. I had my front brake master replaced due to failure after the front tire replaced. Now it is soft and locking front brake. I think he hit on why, clogged brake line. I parked it for awhile and now it will not start normal. I want to check the clutch switch because I can push start it. I know that is not the best way to start my R850R but I had to see if it would still run.
Spiegler is pricy but makes great brake lines. Please don't ride your bike with the old lines if you can get it started. The factory lines are known to collapse after 20 some odd years and lock up the front brake when they do. Check out the BMW MOA forum, it has a wealth of information on our oilheads.
Last year my 96 r1100rt had to do new lines, rebuild calipers, rebuild master cylinder. Ended getting rid of the bike this year just to much maintenance and repairs to keep it riding well. Still a great bike but I'd rather ride than wrench especially since I'm no mechanic.
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I’d love to see a video on rebuilding the front and rear master cylinder.
Why wait? Get to work and make a video.
Thanks Chris. My K1100LT thanks you too❤

This one short video is well worth the price to support Chris on Patreon.

That's why it's important to flush the old fluid at least every 2 years
BMW specifies once a year on all of these bikes.
Hi Chris
Can I check stick coils with a in line neon tester ?
