stumbled upon mr. fite in 2005 or 4, living in SF. there was a district supervisor (chris daly) who used away from the snakes as the background music, which aligned with his political ideology and platform, in a campaign commercial. i didn't know who tim was or anything about the song i was hearing, so i typed in as many lyrics as i could remember, into google and hit send. ever since then, everything this man has released (and had already been released prior i.e. 2 min blues) has been a cherished gem. i got to see him at the mohawk in austin several years after. i've been to a lot of concerts and festivals and without hyperbole i can say this guy put on the best concert i have ever been to. it was, how shall i say, an experience and one that i won't forget the rest of my days...at least until my brain eats itself. i selfishly wish he would tour again, but i respect that this person knows what he wants/needs to do in order to scratch that creative itch. long live time fite.
I feel this years later after seeing him live. He was the opener for Les Claypool's solo tour when I saw him in '08 at First Ave in MSP. I really dug Snakes which was the album he was touring on but the energy this dude had, uff. I stumbled up to the merch booth and he was just so grateful to talk to everyone who wanted to one on one with him. I picked out some CDs and a few stickers then rumbled through my wallet finding myself short on cash. Tim handed me my picks and threw in a single for way less than I had to offer. I walked away knowing I had met an amazing artist who was in it for himself but in the most altruistic way possible.
Waiting for Nothing 25:16 The more that you stand by your man The more time it takes for him To be the leader for your heart To ask your father for your hand Why are you waiting and waiting for nothing You could be wasting your time on his loving Why are you waiting and waiting for nothing The more that you stand by your man The more time it takes for me To be the champion of your love To become the man you wish he was (But he won't ever be good enough) Why are you waiting, you waiting for nothing (x2) You could be wasting your time on his loving Why are you waiting, you waiting for nothing How many (x8) times can you ask How many (x8) turns have to pass Till you find the time To get on with your life (x4) Why are you waiting, you waiting for nothing
I was also introduced to Mr. Fite after seeing him live opening for Les Claypool in 2007 at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco. We saw the New Year's Eve show, and Zappa Plays Zappa also opened. Mr. Fite came out first, and never hearing of him before, he was weird and bizarre, with a bit of hip hop music that we definitely weren't expecting. We were there to see Zappa and Les, but Mr. Fite came out first. My friends and I laughed after his set, thinking he was lame. But, something in the back of my mind enjoyed the show and there were some catchy tunes for sure. So, when I got home I looked him up to see what he was all about. I bought a few of his albums, and have been a fan ever since. I LOVE Tim Fite. Oh yeah - about that concert - Dweezil came out and jammed with Les and his band at one point. It was amazing!

Look up Little T & One Track Mike, they were making the play, had an MTV hit, and had their album release set for 2001... September... 11th... In New York City... Literal blocks away from the WTC. I imagine having that align with your play to become famous might change your goals and perspective on life.

Today was made for leaving
Tomorrow is borrowed time
Yesterday was running ragged
Dragging a dagger down the line
Follow the hollow of my hand
Then you'll know why I can't spend the night
Fought back the dogs from the darkness
You wanna know why
I'll show you why x4
(Why) don't you know
that I'm telling the truth
Why don't you know
that I don't want anything bad to happen to you
Follow the hollow of my hand
Then you'll know why I can't spend the night
The safer we sleep, the safer we'll be
Awake when we meet in the light
Today was made for leaving
Tomorrow is borrowed time
Yesterday was running ragged
Dragging the dagger down the line

It's difficult to understand why Tim never got famous, but I don't think it was ever his intention
