Clean output would be awesome but I don't recall the modders ever being able to do this. I have been using a GH5 for a while now though, so my memory isn't fresh on this, but I do know there are newer versions of the mod that the one I have in this video. (Newer, but still years old because the modding community stopped working on the NX cameras a while back.) I would check dpreview forums to see what the newer versions offer.
Cool mod, I can see that being pretty useful. I don't know much about cameras so that's interesting that you can tweak some of the files and improve the capabilities of the camera. Eventually I'd like to get into cameras as I enjoy photography and recording video but I think that's something for further down the road lol! Sounds like a cool project you're working on too!

Hello there Thank you very much for this post, well explained. Actually....I am looking for help if the trick to attach 3.party or old lenses via an adater on a NX500 (german language/Firmware 1.12). The trick i saw on youtube or read in blogs does not get me further...i created this ".adj" file and followed the instructions about pressing all those buttons one after another. Down (iso)-ok-up (DISP) -ok....and the when i press right (AF) it opens the AF menu. That means i do not reach the final step (pressing the +/- button and the the ok button to get into the dev menu. There is still the message: "lens removed" or "no lens attached"... Could you give me an advice? That would be awesome. Thank you very much! Regards Marcel

Wow...haven't seen that before, but I didn't upgrade my firmware just to make sure this mod would work. Also, sorry but I did a slight Google search and came up short with finding the old v1.11 to download. Samsung's site only shows v1.12 as well.

Oh wow...I'm really not sure why this is happening to you, but you could try out a different mod as there are newer ones available now. Hi, just wondering if you know what render settings on Sony Vegas is best for the nx500? I'm rendering as a VBR but not sure what bitrate is best, I don't want to put too high of a bitrate as I don't want the filesize to be too big but I don't want it to be lower than the cameras bitrate either as I want to keep the quality as close to original as possible, bitrates are confusing lol
My old NX500 doesn't work anymore and I've never edited with Sony Vegas. With that said, if you are uploading to RUclips you might as well use their recommended video bitrate for exported H.264 footage of 53-68Mbps for 4K, 24Mbps for 1440p and 12Mbps for 1080p. support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171
Hey Joe, I appreciate the video. I just tried the mod on my NX 300. It seemed to work, but there is no sound in the recordings now.. It also displayed an odd number next to the time count "3579138". These number do not change, while the time count to the left keeps time. It originally had the operating system 1.34. Do you think I should upload 1.40 and then do the mod? Thanks.
Hey Chaz, sorry but I've never worked with an NX 300 so I'm not sure if an OS update will fix your issue with sound. On forums I found this info regarding the number you see, "NX30 and NX300 is showing a constant number for all video recordings instead of a duration." Also, I recall there being newer versions of this mod so that might help. I have moved on to using a GH5 for a while now so I am not up to date on this but I would check dpreview forums for help.

Interesting though, I also have a MX 300M, with the fully flippable screen and the hack does not work on it. It has a a different set of numbers assigned to the firmware. Wondering if you know anything about the NX 300M. I know you said you've moved on to another camera, so I understand that might be ancient history for you. Thank a lot for al of you help.

I'm not certain but I think we could use a USB power brick along with the NX500 while it records (again not certain). Also, just a heads up on NX1...users have mentioned on a Facebook group I'm in that files that push past 34GB in size get corrupted. Now on the NX500 reaching 34GB at 1080p unlimited would probably take a while to reach, but shoting 4K on the NX1 I'm not sure how much time you actually have to record before reaching 34GB. If I get any new info on that I will be sure to share.
+Tomas Av. This video I shot FHD @ 24fps. In my vlog series I usually mix it up to see what the camera can do at different settings. In those I recorded myself at FHD @ 60fps and mixed in some UHD downscaled b-roll. Everything has been filmed with the 16-50mm kit lens.
I am not aware of being able to take pictures while recording, but you can make an 8 megapixel image from your video. When you preview your video on the camera, just pause the video at the moment you would like a picture and at the top of your camera screen you will see an option to take a picture. Not exactly what you were looking for, but I hope it helps.
One question please.. The Unlimited Recording is reliable? There is no risk that it blocks or something? I would buy this as a fixed camera for live concerts or theater performances

While I like the video quality of my camera and sometimes you can find it at a really nice price, it is hard recommending the NX500 to potential new camera owners. As mentioned in this video Samsung has seemingly abandoned the NX line, which means if you invest in new lenses for the NX500 you will be stuck with glass that you can't use on other cameras and the NX1 will remain the best camera you can use those lenses with. Also, low light performance isn't the best with the NX500, and it is preferable that any concerts you record have good lighting. To ensure you have supported (out of the box) unlimited recording in a mirrorless camera, you should consider a GH4 or GH3 (North America versions). Rumor has it the Panasonic GH5 will be released later this year and that could drop the price of the GH4 even more.

+Monsterlover If you want something with unlimited recording time and no heating issues you could buy either camcorders or a Panasonic GH3 or GH4. If you want 4K recording, get a 4K camcorders and like the Sony AX33 or go for the GH4. With camcorders you will need to invest in good lighting as well as the low light performance sucks on those things, but there are several popular RUclipsrs that use camcorders to shoot their videos. More than likely Panasonic will release a new camera later this year that may drop the GH4 price, but I'm not sure you want to wait on that. Also, you could buy a Samsung NX500 or NX1, but then you would need to do the record limit unlock and my main issue with recommending Samsung cameras is that the company has seemingly abandoned the NX line. I'm pretty sure you will be able to find these cameras at a steal in the near future, but just know you won't be getting support like new lenes from Samsung when purchasing one of these NX cameras. That said I'm investing into my NX500 until it no longer works.

+Monsterlover Hey...Canon 80D should have the same 30min record time limit as the 70D. The 80D supports 60fps recording at 1080p vs 30fps of the 70D. Canon is the AF camp, and non of the mirrorless cameras can compete. Canon has a large selection of lenses and while the 80D doesn't support 4K, you can get excellent 1080p footage from the 70D so I expect great footage from the 80D as well. Sorry, not aware of being able to use the flash while recording like a smart phone. Most mirrorless cameras don't allow you to use the flash while recording video and I'm sure this is to preserve battery life. You will need to purchase a LED light to connect to your camera's hot shoe like this one: goo.gl/kSJmK2

What version is your firmware? This will not work with the latest, but does work with v1.11. Also, make sure your camera dial is on auto.

Hey, I don't think this mod works for the NX30. I remember people confirmed it works for the NX300 as well, but it was designed for the NX1 and NX500.

Can you Take pictures While your recording? I can't figure it out when I push the button to snap a photo while recording it just stops recording.

Hi, I don't recall the NX500 being able to do that. You can make 8 megapixel images from any frame in your video though.

Check your camera body firmware. You need to be at v1.11 for this to work...anything newer it will fail.
