Hi, thank you SO much for this helpful tutorial!! Quick question - I have a course on Kajabi, no facebook group yet, I am trying to start my community. Can I start the Kajabi community as "Free for all" first, and then turn the community as part of the paid course later? Would I lose all the engagement on the free side? Thanks so much!
Hi Jenna! great question. We used to have a free community on facebook with thousands of members and engagement was very low. On the flip side our paid community in kajabi has high engagement. People who pay, pay attention, all the others are freebie seekers so I highly suggest you DON’T create a free community. Do conversion events instead (paid), and grow an email list of buyers. In the Lazy Dancer Studio we have two communities, one for people who bought self-standing products, and another one for subscription members. They’re both engaged communities because they’re not made of freebie seekers. Don’t work for free, your content is already valuable, have communities for your most committed people (in Kajabi as we love building communities there). This would be our advice based of what we’ve been through with Lazy Dancer Tips. 🫶
Thanks so much for your response. You rock! Another question...do "communities" enable robust targeting communication with members. I imagine that clients' access group assignment can be associated with an automatic tagging, which allows emails to be sent to a specific access group. Is there a way such that their activity within the community can trigger other automations like tagging and emails. For instance, if they complete a section of content, or get enough points or badges, can those actions trigger automations? And if the answer is "no", what about PMs inside the community. Can those be directed to groups based on parameters as mentioned above? Thanks
Hey Andrew, Kajabi offers so many ways in which you can automatise operations based on behaviour. You can’t do much based on what people do within the community but you can design a path to control specific behaviours and control them with product access, assessments or videos watched, etc. For example, we put in place a gamified journey within our membership long before Kajabi offered the gamified course template. We deliver badges automatically when assessments are completed, while granting access to the next course level (while having related challenges in the community) It’s pretty neat. If there is a will, there is a way and with proper product design, you can do almost anything in Kajabi without the need of any other software. By the way, if you use our link, you can get double of the Kajabi trial and test all these things yourself. www.profitabletalents.com/kajabi Happy building my friend
Great video! I get that there can be multiple access groups, so there can be two tiers, paid and not paid. Very cool. Basically replaces FB group and can have an integrated paid content and meetups. A few questions and I'd be grateful for your thoughts: 1. Can we set it up so that everyone in the paid group is also part of the unpaid group?. 2 Can we have more than one paid access groups with different access to content? 3. Does the system track who shows up for a meetup, maybe with a tag, so for instance, we can automate followup emails to people who attended a free live session? THANKS!
sure, you can have as many communities (access groups) you want, paid or free. Your offers will give access to specific “access groups” so you’ll manage what people get access to using offers. One thing to bear in mind, each new access group will count as another “product” used under your account so check your product availability before committing.
Circle has the ability to have a free tier, and people being able to see what calls and courses they don't have access to, and be able to unlock the access of the single courses or knock up to the paid membership tier Can current Kajabi community do that? DO you know if not, is that a planned update?
We have two tiers in our community in Kajabi, one for people that bought self standing programs and one for active members. We have special content, challenges and calls for members only and we let the other group see what’s going on and what they’re missing out. We always specify that the resources are for members only and we always provide links to upgrade. So long story short, yes, it’s possible. Not exactly a right out of the box feature but with tailored posts and a custom community dashboard this is easily achievable.
This was SO INFORMATIVE AND HELPFUL! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

as a challenge entries, can members upload videos or audios? Thank you!
Yes, they can!

Is the community though through CIRCLE and students have to click out to a Circle membership for this?
do you mean “circle” the software? the community we talk about lives within the Kajabi ecosystem, so it’s all under the same brand
Thank you! I have a much better idea how to use Lazy Dancer on Kajabi and how to begin utilizing this for myself.
that’s awesome :) glad it was helpful
