I used to own and run 2 D8H's with my father. The sound of the engine, the way they handle. The best dozer ever made. The new ones today cannot come close to the classics.
@@jimmychanbers2424My special needs son agrees with you on that completely! He says they don't make them like that anymore but wishes they would or will someday with no microprocessors in them just pure mechanics and with character and simplicity.
The clay that the D8K is trying to dig was rock hard virgin clay. Opening the throttle right out would just cause more trackspin unfortunately. The clay in the background that the D8H is digging was dug out the day before with a Cat 983B making it abit easier. I hope that helps
Wondering, if a restoration, service and sales of these old cats, would be a profitable business to start ,in to day market? Your opinion would be very appreciated !
Construction Machines Channel That’s a D8H in the background I think. The rain started shortly after I took this and I wasn’t able to get a video of it
Ridin' Green well the H was the previous generation. I’d have to look up the technicalities of the actual differences but I know the K had a power shift transmission.
@@AwesomeEarthmovers that is me on the d8h in the background, my first and only time on a d8 with a blade. We usually run it along with its sister machine with 435 or 463 scraper boxes depending on the size of the job, with d6r for push loading.
@@steetee725 no I won't be showing you how to operate a dozer at peak efficiency, needless to say many dollars are made by owners charging hourly rate spining tracs trying to do with a blade which must be done with a ripper.
@@frankbertola3662 It was a genuine request, I assumed that this was your everyday job and that you could maybe show us how it’s done but he is pushing a full blade of dirt and from an amateur’s point of view the ground doesn’t look like it needs ripping first?
@@frankbertola3662 Well the operators on this job are in the comments whyncha find them and jump in and tell them how horrible he is. Jerk off. Shaddup.
The operator isn't any good. He's up and down with the blade and hence shows he has not got the feel for the machine. He's just creating bumps and making it harder with each pass. In other words, he's digging in too deep too fast. Not very experienced in my opinion.
Hes not using the dozer properly shes a good machine , its old and should be respected , the transmission wont last long this way ,, either will the running gear , she has no chance at this kind of deep hard digging and pushing , she could do with a Kelly Ripper to loosen up the ground first , a D9 g would be better suited to this kind of ground
Digging down too deep too fast..... Then he has to pull the blade up and leave a bump. Makes it harder with each pass. Operator does not have a feel for the machine nor the ground.
It might also have something to do with the HYDs, as to how good they are, I am on a 10 T at the moment and it does just that but the Hyds are very weak on it. Blade and rippers creep down fast and when the blade bites it will pull it down even if you are trying to lift it. Maybe that 8 has the same problem and needs a hyd overhaul. @@adelarsen9776
Awesome Earthmovers that doesn’t look virgin to me. That’s loose dirt That dozer is sitting on a lift of loose dirt. And I’m not talking loose rocks either. I run a d8 for a living. Not much is harder on one then ripping up boulders and rock that’s never been touched Then pushing it over.
Awesome Earthmovers alright I take part of what I said back. It looked loose but I see it’s not. That’s still just clay no rocks. That’s what we call an easy day. No boulders to worry about and there’s no ripper. Just pushing.
DDMAX 08LMM600HP if you watched a bit more of the video you would see the dozer cutting into a slot. There’s a difference between something being hard on a dozer and working hard. Rock work is hard on a dozer but when it comes to working hard clay is heavier and you also grip more in it using more of the dozers power.
DDMAX 08LMM600HP A dozer will certainly last longer in clay and I’d much rather work in it that rock but as regards working hard and using its full horsepower, nothing beats heavy damp clay.
What a throttle jockey!!!!!!!!!!! you never deaccelerate when pushing under full load!!!!!!! keep engine rpm up to get full hp and push, he doesnt know how to control the pressure on the blade either. Total amateur!

I love watching a bulldozer, especially a Caterpillar. My dad drove a D8H for many years!
i have operated both d8ks and d8ts but in the big pic the old diehard d8h will reign supreme
Great video, I worked on Cat for 30 years rebuilding engines and transmissions

Only thing it’s missing is me in the cab. Sweet unit!👍
sidestep the decelerator and let it rock love them old flat tracks
Muy buen video de la mejor familia de maquinaria Caterpillar i sobre todo de los años 70
Thank you for sharing the footage!
Sterling Silver you’re welcome, thanks for watching
That 8K is working maybe 2 miles away from my house , he’s a grumpy bugger the owner 😁
Great looking machine I wish I had it
Holy shit. Fast hydraulics are wasted on this guy.
localcrew why
Very cool, thanks for the response
I love that old caterpillar d-9
This ground was so hard my Dad in the D8K said you need a CAT D8R to rip it.
great old tractor
Ho usato il d8k per molti anni, emozioni e soddisfazioni uniche,il primo operatore è da prendere a badilate!!!
THIS JOB !! NEEDS !! ONE !!! HUNDRED ;!!!!! OR MORE !!! DEE !! TWELVES !!!!
This guy love fancy work up and down unlevel ground instead of plain flat ground. It makes it a lot better backing up if it ain't fancy work.
This is one very clean K....
LY ENGINEERING EARTH MOVERS He takes good care of his machinery. This dozer isn’t just a showpiece. It actually still works.
Nice well looked after machine
Big gulp! That’s movin’ dirt!
Lot of Whitney comments on this one. Armchair critics.
what is this memory lane construction?

Adam Howarth I don’t think I was able to get any decent footage you on the D8H before the rain came that day.
He could get a lot more done if he knew how to run a dozer
good videoooo

It's frustrating watching this driver. He drives any good operator insane
Trust me he knows what he is doing having owned and operated several d8s and d9s
Perhaps you could do a video and show us all how it should be done then?
