Finally. Someone tells it like it is. I can't tell you how many times I hear people complaining about how their new guitar wasn't set up correctly from the factory. Nearly every RUclips channel does it. The factory sets up their guitars to where they are intonated correctly and just low enough to ensure there isn't any fret buzz. That's why the music store offers setups. I think it's become an issue because of all the online purchases and granted there are some cheap guitars that are probably terrible. Anyway, Thank you for the video. Was refreshing to hear that.

I'm going to use the "adjusting the mirrors" comparison for a million different things from this point on. Great point.

Just the fact that you are honest enough to tell the truth is a rarity! I’m 72 and have setting my own guitars up for 60 years. Back then you had to learn how to do it or it didn’t get done! I still have my Guitar Player Maintenance guide from 1969!

Thanks Harry! Nothing wrong with telling it like it is.

Good points. Many guitar players today are unreasonable in their expectations and set themselves up for disappointment. Most guitars are made of organic materials and are not inert. Necks move, frets get dirty, strings need stretching, etc. As long as the nut is cut correctly you are mostly good.

I set up guitars everyday for a domestic company that offers an import line. We import guitars from overseas and set them up in the US. If I were to receive a factory direct guitar from Indonesia for example (tons of imports being built there) I would probably have issue with the setup. It comes down to a couple things. These guitars are facing a lot of time on the water in shipping containers as mentioned in the video. The changes in temperature and humidity are very likely going to cause the relief to go out and that will definitely effect playability. Another issue is that these guitars are being built for a variety of brands worldwide and the demand is extremely high. I really don't want to say anything bad about the factories necessarily but it's just my personal opinion that their first priority is to get those instruments shipped and the setup might not be great. I think if you're going to play guitar its extremely worthwhile to get the handful of tools needed to perform basic setup and learn it for yourself. It's not hard.

As far as I knew, there was never a "factory set up" unless it was specifically ordered & paid for. Every guitar I've ever bought new was rough at best for set up, that includes Gibson, Fender, all of them. After learning set up, I see why they dont do it at the factory, it would raise the price 300$

Tease actually pays for the little extras like action set , frets polished and intonation. I assure you its a far cry from anywhere near perfect but its playable out of the box and since we check and set every unit its really good. That being said , it still needs a set up for even fine tuning and personal preference. Thanks for stopping in :)

I avoid ordering in the summer heavy stuff for that reason. I thought it might've been solely UPS but FedEx is jumping on the bandwagon

It seems complaints about factory "set-up" also pertain to sloppiness of assembly like poor string/neck alignment.

Absolutely - I can't even imagine sending guitars out to people that haven't been looked at . That would be a nightmare yet most companies just do it.

People who expect the factory to setup their guitar have never worked production.
I took home my first gibson and ripped out the pickups before even plugging it in. I’m gonna set my own guitars how I want them. Don’t care about the factorys specs
At least it never went in a container ship across an ocean

Where it changed is when 🇺🇲 gave up manufacturing products here and have pride , corporations working with the government, pushed the small business into struggling. Leo Fender was a genius and when the corporation bought Fender, the products went down hill and I'm a Fender guy. G&L guitars are a much better built guitar than Fender of the same class, because corporation isn't involved. Made in 🇺🇲 lost it's meaning from the 60s
