If you want to know some more of this background info/stories, i recommend a book called Friendly Local Game Store. Its the book of a successful game store owner (i think its a chain now too), but its the story of how he started up in 2008(ish). The info comes from his blog posts and then got reformatted and added to to fot a book format. SUPER interesting stuff. I think he said his initial investment was in the world of $150k in 2010s money.
Been working in LGS for 5th year fukl time now. Before in high school i did 3 years as part time worker. Its a minimal wage job, im constantly overworked because we only have 4 employees total and i take care of all things wargaming, ygo, flesh and blood and do every day at least 5 hours on the counter. Were it not my hobby and the store thanks to which i got introduced to all my tabletop hobbies (except ygo which i started to play in like 5th grade) i would just quit, the money is not worth the trouble were it not for that fact.
So funny that here in Brazil, card games are so much treated as a childish thing, that robbers don't even think about robbing a store. There's at least 5 in the city that I live, and none of them even once got robbed.
Farfa is wrong about how Distributors work with Konami. Stores can literally pick and choose any sets they want to order and how much they want.
Pokemon is allocated, so you have to buy bad Pokemon to get the good stuff.
Any sort of game store doesn’t make a lot of return. I work at a retro game store and we also sell TCGs so I know how it’s not an easy business to do.

@mantraki well it happens :l they come up and make fun of me and my friends in the past then they laugh it off and start saying yea pokemon cards are magical e.e...they just talk major shyt man it makes us feel unwelcome.

The only reason I quit paper is mats at locals yeah I'll pay 30$ more to buy a cliche black mat while we're adults that & harassing for trades as a budget player it isn't 2005 with kids censoring is unnecessary just saying Konami didn't mind Castlevania but Yu-Gi-Oh needs it! ^^😂

By praying on it's downfall, do you mean you hope that paper play becomes more affordable and accessable, or that it completely fades away? Because if so, you shouldn't be playing this game at all, lol.
I love how much Farfa complained that Yu-gi-oh is barely on their shelves meanwhile he me made a video recently saying that people shouldn't play TCG any more and just play Master Duel. Like I get he might have been exaggerating in one or both videos but it's still a bit hypocritical.
