Marianna, in 2024 you became my go to person when it comes to movie recommendations and reviews. Very rarely I disagree with you, and when it happens, it's usually because of taste and perception, not because of the movie itself. Please, keep being great in 2025!

      okay
she listed her 10 most underrated horror films
then listed her 10 most underrated films - horror and non horror but nothing from the first list
and still 3 horror films made the 2nd list
but, they would be the #11, #12, and #13 best horror
so #1, #2, and #3 from the 1st list would’ve been included if they had been allowed
but how many from #4 - #10 would’ve replaced non horror given the chance?
a list of my 10 favorite films probably wouldn’t have any horror
      but that’s me
The Omen is my favorite horror film
maybe the only horror film i like
but i might give the Omen prequel a try
anyway, my point is this girl really likes horror

SO glad to see The First Omen getting some much deserved attention. I saw it TWICE during it's all-too-brief theatrical run, and was just so impressed. Not only might it be my favorite film of 2024 (holding that decision until I see Nosferatu on Christmas Day) but it has become one of my top 5 films of all time. I feel like this is a film will find more and more appreciation as years go on. Aside from the prequel stigma, I believe it suffered by being released so soon after Sydney Sweeney's Immaculate (which I would also rate as an underrated gem of this year).

I didn't realize it before seeing it, but the family at the heart of the story IS a real family - Keith Kupferer, Tara Mallen, and Katherine Mallen Kupferer are all busy actors in Chicago, and they're just brilliant here. I also loved "Tuesday," with a wonderful, serious performance by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, an unexpected fantasy element that balances the thoughtful meditations on death and grief, and, I'm not kidding, some of the best sound design of the year, starting with the first two minutes of the movie.

Last Stop in Yuma County, Monkey Man, and The Promised Land were all excellent, all either in my top 10 or just barely got bumped out. Hundreds of Beavers, which is on Prime Video and free on RUclips, is probably my #2 behind Dune part 2. It's if an old Buster Keaton slapstick comedy had a baby with Loony Tunes and priduced something modern with video game logic and low budget 00s internet art. Its an absolute fever dream and a fun ride. What started out simple and pretty straight forward builds upon itself with multilayered jokes (many of which you won't catch if you aren't paying close attention) and playing out of its cartoon/video game logic to its logical extreme. It's probably the best and most clever pure comedy that I've seen in years. The Order, Juror #2, Strange Darling, Hit Man, and Costner's Horizon: An American Saga part 1 are also really solid movies that deserve more attention.

Check out the performance by Daisy Ridley in Sometimes I think of Dying. It is sadly underappreciated and over-looked.

The Promised Land was made in 2019 or 2020, wasn't it? But I do agree that Mads is a great actor, and soooo handsome, I watch whatever he is in :) BTW what brought me here was Mads in the thumbnail :)

Ok, more for my "to watch" list. Great!!! Did you know, the actor with the disfigured face in A Different Man is wearing no makeup. He has a disfiguring condition, and was also seen in "Under the Skin".
