| Mir Saeid Marouf Lakerani (Persian: میر سعید معروف لاكرانی, born 23 September 1985, in Urmia) is an Iranian volleyball setter. He is the captain of the Iranian national team. He was named best setter at the 2014 World League and 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic qualifying tournaments, as well as most valuable player at the 2013 Asian Championship. He participated in the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. He was voted Iranian Sportsmen of the year for (2015-16) of the Iranian calendar by an Iranian TV

Career
National team
Marouf's first national game was for Iran boys national volleyball team in 2001 and 4 years later, he joined the Iran men's national volleyball team. In 2007, Marouf became a constant member of men's national team but due to conflicts and disagreements, Marouf decided not to continue playing for men's national team in 2011 but he ultimately returned to team in 2012 and since former captain Alireza Nadi was not invited to the team by then-head coach Julio Velasco, Marouf became the team captain ever since. Marouf In the 2013 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship was selected as the Most valuable player. He was introduced as the Best setter in at 2014 FIVB World League above Bruno Rezende and Dragan Travica.

Zenit Kazan
After years of speculation regarding his presence at a European club, on 27 December 2014 Marouf signed a one-year contract with Russian Super League champions Zenit Kazan with an option for a one-year extension. The contract was worth over 1 million dollars which made Marouf one of the world's highest-paid volleyball players in 2014 .
On 25 January 2015, Marouf made his debut in the Russian Super League for Zenit Kazan in a 3-0 straight-sets win over Dynamo Krasnodar.
BAIC Motor
Marouf after 2019 VNL transferred to Chinese Volleyball Super League for played in Beijing BAIC Motor.
Personal life
Marouf was born in Urmia, West Azerbaijan, Iran in a family with a history of involvement in volleyball including his uncles Jahangir Seyyed Abbasi, Nobakht Seyyed Abbasi, Khoshbakht Seyyed Abbasi, and his former teammate Vahid Seyyed Abbasi.
He at school time activated in other sports like, Cross country running, Basketball and Handball.
Social activity
Marouf with Popular athletes such as Ali Daei, Hamid Sourian and Behdad Salimi the helpers in the fight and eradicate poverty and hunger in World Food Programme.

There are 2 qualities setting (no pun intended) him apart: his ability to observe and predict the opponent team, thereby always knowing the weak part of the block/defense and setting his attackers accordingly. That is why we see so ridiculously many 1-on-1 situations or straightup no blockers at all, when his team attacks. The quota overall is just stupid.
And secondly, many setters are good at "rescuing" tight passes. But Marouf's diversity in those tight pass/overpass situations is absurd. He can set anyone from the edge of the net, let it drop when he reads that the oponent is sleeping and do it from multiple body orientations as well, making his tight-net-setting even harder to predict.
Those two qualities must make it an absolut pain in the ass to predict this guys moves. It is really the hitters being the weakness, if anything.

For a setter he moves a lot. He doesn't wait for the ball to come to him that one inch closer, he speeds things up by coming to the ball first and playing it the way he wants.
The fact that Marouf can make setting look so easy and stand out so much in games is incredible
Agreed. He looks like he's not trying at all. He just sticks his hands up in the air and the ball is set perfectly! He is also very light on his feet. Looks effortless.
I am S.Korean Volleyball mania but a fan as to Marouf. I think he is the best setter nowadays beyond France, Brazil, Italia, Poland and Russia etc.

This is easily the most amazing highlight video I've seen. Dude is inhuman. They are in system when he is setting from zone 5? You have got to be kidding me! So many of the clips had me shaking my head in disbelief and amazement. The one when he takes his eyes off the pass to see his hitters had me backing up the video. I usually tell the setters I coach to watch his highlight videos. This is the one I'm going to point them to from now on.
Clay Hales Yes! Watching him is just attending a professional setting course. His far back dumps in zones 1 and 5 are very difficult to teach anybody. There was just one in this video but he does it routinely! Iran attackers are no superstars but this man makes them succeed with 70% effort of other elite players.

@@HosseinMadanee This is not just an opinion. It's statistics. I am closely following Iranians technical data and their strikers' point ratio statistics in offense is not good. (I assume you know the difference between ratio and rate) I agree that Seyed has almost the highest success among Iranians though, his most strength has always been blocks, and his offense is just like other top players in the world. There is one player called Ghaemi which I don't even know why Iran keeps him in the squad, his point ratio statistics is always poor (He has good reception though). Still Iran has always been strong in reception, setting, digs, and sometimes blocks and serves, statistically of course.
@@EpicEternal2 i think the Iranian attackers are still world class rated, but if we compare them to Brazil or Poland roster they are average. I do agree apart of Marouf's brilliance, the things that make Iran a good team are their strong defense and blocks

I saw a video made by Erik Shoji, the libero for Team USA, and he said that actually Marouf does that pretty often (if compared to other setters, obviously), so they started calling that move "doing a Marouf" or something like that

His setter dumps are so lethal because his style of setting shows that he’ll set the ball even if its on the net or an overpass. Therefor, when that one hand goes up the opposing team is expecting a set. You cover his setter dumps, you lose to him setting a hitter. You cover the hitters, he’ll drop it right in front of you.
He's absolutely God of the setters in the world with no doubt.

Bronco his. Team and spokers are stronger and historically many years were the best in world, but iranian team is newer and average of high at this team leader and own marouf has not good high and brono is higher than marouf ,but with own ,leadering and IQ makes he creative and shutter than others,this guy's is number one and GOD of all setters
