came here after carol burnette took colbert questionaire if you could only hear one song ... and she said she loved this song... cool it is by nat king cole, wondering now if I've heard it... myself already... maybe when I was a kid...
Began listening to Nat in the 1950s, became a professional singer/musician myself, played full-time for 30 years, did 15 more years in radio, and now 13 years singing in church. After all this time and experience and a heck of lot of listening, Nat is still to me, arguably, the best ballad singer I ever heard!
@@fredferd965 My good friend went to high school with her in western Massachusetts for a hot minute and said Natalie was determined to be a singer, but she was actually not so good at first. She remembers thinking, "why is she singing in this night club"? In Natalie's case, practice made perfect.
I've never even heard of this song before, let alone that he sang it. My dad loved this guy, and I renember when he used to sing his songs to us. He nailed it too. Not with Nat's particular accent, but with the same deep gusto and vibrato and passion. It was quite something to hear and watch. My dad had a great voice.
Sammy Davis Jr. Said....after Nat's passing..."We ain't likely to see his 'likes', again, ever"....so very true....he was ultra special in many ways & a great father...👌🌹💖
Because of his commercial success and appeal, he is often taken for granted. I ALWAYS come back to Nat King Cole. In my opinion, he and Tony Williams were the greatest of all time. I wish I could have met him. Taken from us at age 45, Its been said, he gave so much and had so much more to give. I hope to meet him in heaven, where I know he will be. L-O-V-E. Joe D
First a pianist he didn't think much about singing. then he sand and accompanied himself and reinvented this music. He was the lead advance that brought so much love and respect for his people. The most talented people to occupy this world.
I'm here also bc of Carol Burnett. She was recently asked by Stephen Colbert what song she would listen to the rest of her life if she were only allowed one song. She answered Here's that Rainy Day. I knew the song, but not all the lyrics, here I am. (For Nat King Cole, too!)
Eve Graham. (ex. New Seekers) I've looked for the "right " version of this for years. My favourite song from before my New Seekers days. As with @faithe54's quote of Carol Burnette,, it would be the song I'll sing the day I die!
Understated elegance----he was.....superb. I was too young to hear him at his prime, but we had his albums and I did love them and learned a lot about singing by his incomparable phrasing.
This is lovely. Here with the Augmented Ted Heath and his Orchestra. Looked for this everywhere but this is the only version I can find. Wonderful upload thank you!
as the son of a new york fireman i grew up with plenty of prejudice but it didn't rub off. i had good friends in the military from 57 to 61 and then spent my whole life close to all. part of it comes from a love for this guy. there is no difference, if anything, they are not only equal but better. always be kind. roc
Nat King Cole, what a singer absolutely incomparable. A God given voice, after so many years that we lost him, he’s still that legend , an icon , forever in our hearts , he was taken too soon. RIP
well, what can you say, the man had a stunning voice with character and emotion; the song is a masterwork. However, when Sinatra sings it along with Nelson Riddles magical arrangement I get misty eyed
Here is another great singer Mr. Nat Cole, who passed so very young. Here's That Rainy Day was written by this two great composer and lyricist Vanheusen/Burke what a great combination of talents. RIP and God bless to all.
Nat King Cole was the quintessential professional - EVERYTHING about his performance was perfection. His voice was smooth as silk.Nobody today could even come close to his artistry now. Sadly, his generation was the LAST generation of real talent. (Today, there are just freak shows on television...)
I was told this clip is actually from his 50s TV show shot in England for the BBC. Had searched for his version of this sing for years. Saw him do it on his TV show once or twice and didn't know he never did it on any of his many albums. Only found it on RUclips after someone uploaded it awhile back.
Remember Nat had to push hard. He was under a lot of stress. He didn't have the luxery of a big movie career like Crosby, Sinatra etc. He had to have his A game all the time. No breaks. That's pressure. Smoking I guess( I don't agree) relasxed him and then caused him a early death. My uncle Willie Smith played with Nat. My favorite album( I have 3 copies) is "After Midnight" A pure classic. Remember Nat was a jazz superstar before people like Miles were being spoon fed.
What a beautiful job. I never knew too much about this song. Never knew it had lyrics. First time I heard it was a RUclips video of Doc Severison paying tribute to Johnny Carson - Beautiful song
Maybe I should have saved Those leftover dreams Funny But here's that rainy day Here's that rainy day They told me about And I laughed at the thought That it might turn out this way Where is that worn out wish That I threw aside After it brought my love so near Funny how love becomes A cold rainy day Funny That rainy day is here It's funny How love becomes A cold rainy day Funny That rainy day is here

Good God, what a talent.
The man was a terrific husband, father & the absolute best singer & piano player I've ever heard! A real legend forever ❤️
One of my all time favorites
He so reminds me of my father. I return to his videos as a reminder of my dad.

Karl Melanson - Nice to hear such a comment from a professional musician.
Yes, and his daughter wasn't so bad either!!!!
Wonderful ballad singer BUT ----- JOHNNY HARTMAN !
@@murph3001 ...Unfortunately, Johnny Hartman wasn't as big as Nat "King" Cole. The latter didn't just sing ballads.

FANTASTIC SINGER!
The good old days when quality was pure quality
I really like and admire the way he takes time with the lyrics and pronounces all the syllables to bring the feeling home.

This fine piece of music was the late Johnny Carson's favorite song.
Mr Coles version is a gem
The BEST Ballad Singer of ALL Time...
Is there even a close second?
Yeah sure Sinatra sings heavy metal…
@@Rodrigo11100 lol exactly. Sinatra is king
Sorry. Sinatra
@@MS-sv1tr To me Nat King Cole's female match is Ella Fitzgerald.

Back when singers had class. No trashy tattoos, vulgarities, or insulting the audiences. What a voice.
👍👍👍
this man's voice is sublime, class and quality

Nat King Cole's voice is soft silky perfection!
That suit, the whole set design is AMAZING.
The musical swells on this song are simply awesome
When Nat King Cole sings he sings it like he lived it! There is no one better! Incredible!
Nat King Cole - smooth as hundred year old wine, crystal clear, pure, mellow, beautiful.......
As I listen to this in the half light of late west coast afternoon the rain is softly tapping on the windows and all is mellow and fine.
The best version of this song .
nat king cole is an incredible pianist too !
First a pianist he didn't think much about singing. then he sand and accompanied himself and reinvented this music. He was the lead advance that brought so much love and respect for his people. The most talented people to occupy this world.
Nat King Cole was a man of class and his voice was amazing Beautiful song.
Aloha Nat King Cole !!!! Thanks for posting your iconic "Here's That Rainy Day"~~~Masterpiece delight !!!! Robert S.J. Hu Sept. 4, 2020.
THE singer, my favorite.
He was a brilliant performer, and he does justice to this great song.
One of those songs I just think about and the tears start.
Nat King Cole had a beautiful voice; He was and still is the best male singer our country , our country has ever had.
Without a doubt!
yea, still miss him..
Hell of a pianist too
Such a beautiful beautiful voice one my favorite ballad singers. I was a little girl when my parents played his records and I loved his voice.
Nat Cole is the only singer who truly caught the irony in the lyrics. I like his version the best.
Whose here in 2024 ✊🏻

God damn brilliant
Mostly losing.... that's how it seems to work out for most people. Certainly the tone of this song. What a fantastic singer.
Nag was a very classy guy and so very talented. Love man.

Phenomenal.
Extraordinariamente linda interpretação de Nat King Cole.
My favorite version
GREAT
This is profound and Nat does it like he's just heard really bad news. When sinatra sang it it was a love song, of love lost. Both did it wonderfully.
Maybe
I should have saved
Those leftover dreams
Funny
But here's that rainy day
Here's that rainy day
They told me about
And I laughed at the thought
That it might turn out this way
Where is that worn out wish
That I threw aside
After it brought my love so near
Funny how love becomes
A cold rainy day
Funny
That rainy day is here
It's funny
How love becomes
A cold rainy day
Funny
That rainy day is here
