- Опубликовано: 29 май 2018
- In 2017, after eight years as a professional road racer, Alison Tetrick lined up at one of the world's most demanding gravel races: the 206-mile Dirty Kanza. She won in a dramatic sprint finish-and set the course record in the process. The victory changed Tetrick's life.
In 2018, Tetrick decided to defend her Kanza title and dedicate herself solely to adventure and gravel racing. In this profile, we cover Tetrick's rise in the sport, her victory in her first Dirty Kanza 200, and her decision to shift her competitive focus as a bike racer.
Join PRO to access Tetrick's 9-week training plan prior to the 2018 Dirty Kanza 200, as well as 212 days of world-class racing, live and on-demand.

She was doing 17-18mph average on gravel+rolling hills for 12hrs~ Damn.
Mad respect.
Incredible woman and interviewing I’m so inspired!! I pick up my first ever bike, a specializes Diverge Sport, in 10 days! I have a bad back and am inspired to become strong and be that example of perseverance for my children!
Great bike choice - and keep being boldly YOU!
Done. As soon as she described how quickly was on that USA team, I absolutely could not relate to her. What an awesome life for someone to have.
Great story of a great happy rider, the way it should be.
I love it as well, hardly any cars up in the Otway ranges where I am,beautiful scenery,a real bonus.
Awesome story and video Alison! Thank you so much for sharing.
Last year, after I rode the DK50, I saw you win the DK200 2017! You, once again, had an amazing finish at the DK200 2018! I saw your finish this year after I finished the DK100. Your pace for those 206 miles was simply incredible, in that wind! Strong work!! It’s hard to understand how great some people are at this sport. Congratulations!
I believe the takeaway of this story is...talent is not to be denied. Cream rises to the top. Alison has all the ability.
congratulations for winning that difficult race dirty kansas, I admire you, you are a great motivation for my training ...
Alison is such a class act! Loved meeting her at Gravel Worlds last year. Hoping she graces us with her presence again in 2018.

"Cycling teaches us humility," Ali's grandfather. We welcome humility.
Aaron Householder Love this quote!
What a performance. Thanks for sharing.
I hope to one day stand on the podium. I'm a disabled veteran and had my second back surgery just under a year ago. I had a spinal fusion of the L5-S1 and recently re-discovered my love for riding. I have permanent damage to nerves in my left leg and back, so it doesn't exactly make things easy (permanent muscle atrophy to certain muscles). Been off my bike for almost two weeks now and can't wait to get back on it this evening. This an inspiring video and there is no way I want to give this up! Some of the pain may have been from the hit and run I was involved in though... thankfully my bike was made stronger than me and didn't receive any real damage! -Giant Stance 2
Wow, Mack! You're a true inspiration! Keep up the great work!
FloBikes thank you for the kind words!
Mac Hope you Managing you goal, I am else a Veteran with bad back but I keep pushing it.
Check out the warrior games, it's an event for people just like you.
This just shows the importance of genetics. She picked up cycling in her early 20s and within a couple of months turned pro and now she is national team member and winning races in many places. Unreal.
Very inspiring video and message. Keep it up! 👍
Impressive Ali. Have a great 2019 season!
Dope video, congrats on the win at kanza. Keep pedaling 🙌🏽👍🏽👌🏽
Alison is awesome. Cool to see shots of Petaluma in this video. See ya around A.T.
I love your attitude, Allison. If you only do stuff you already know you CAN do in this life... what’s the point? Go get ‘em, girl!
Be a force to be reckoned with always never surrender! 💯🇺🇸💪👍
What an amazing spirit. This chick rocks!
Love the insight into Kanza for an elite athlete...
Great story. All the best at this years race.
That’s a great video and Ali is such a badass!
Noticed she was riding a Cannondale Slate when she won the Dirty Kanza . Now she’s riding Specialized. Cannondale dropped the ball by not sponsoring her or finding good sponsors with them .
Good luck to her .
Go SPECIALIZED!!!!

Mucha Bella! You are amazing!
Thank you!
Well done 👍
You are inspiration mam🙏
ooo gash! Cool story ! I want more !
I have the same bike and it’s pretty rad.
Respect!!!
great fish rock footage!
2018 Alison was 3rd this year finishing in just over 12 1/2 hours.
Pretty cool having the fish rock scenes in there! My local race
Great event for my little town. She said however the population of Emporia is 8 or 9 thousand actually around 30 thousand, but we love this event and the people it brings to town every year. Emporia has also played host to the two largest disc golf tourneys in the history of that sport.
"In a whole spot of bother" Ha! Hilarious understatement.
If you know, you know! Haha.
Awesomeness 💯🇺🇸🔥
Oh dear take me to your paradise DK! awesome
Gravel riding is awesome...
You Rock Alison! Baddass.
Seen her at the BWR the last 2 years.. I'm thinking 2019 is the year she gets that notch on her belt
If you think gravel after parties are a lil gritty and different, go to Whistler during CrankWorks baby! ❤️ MTB
so cool.
@Alison, I roll in a VW JSW TDI with tow hitch also! 🤘🏽
I still have the same car!
Will you be getting back into the pro races on the road?
I thought I was a late bike bloomer starting at 39 . I also hope to cycle like your grandpa as well.
Awesome
Yeah that blows my mind I can't imagine carrying that pays for 200 miles crazy man absolutely crazy now that's an athlete
Great video. You are an incredible athlete. But your patriotism is appreciated and very refreshing.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Im a massive fan. Come to liverpool and ride up the sefton coast with me sometime soon plz
Inspiring!!
You were a pro less than a year after taking up a sport and sprinted at the end of an 11 hr race? How does one do things like that? Holy cow.
As my mom says, a crazy person! Haha
Hardly fair she got the legs of steel and steely blue eyes. Props to grandad the real hero who is cycling into old age.
In roadies there is a lot of gatekeeping. In gravel everyone is so welcoming.
What is the best gear setup is the best for this race ? Is the 1x12 the best way to go ? I'm looking getting the Sram GX 12
Incredible story - 3 months from beginner to national team - really proves that world class athletes are born and not made. In cycling, you are really just competing against yourself, trying to be the best that you can be.
The race is always against yourself! All you can do is be the best that YOU can be!
Is it just me ,, in her DK race picture shes riding only one fork?? like how crazy is that on a gravel road
Redh Blue that'll be the Lefty Oliver fork on the cannondale she rode back then. suprisingly, much stiffer and lighter than a traditional two-stanchioned fork
I guess i'll just ride an xc.
10 Hours in a Bike is Crazy...
Which bike rack does she use?
That's a Thule and I still have it!
"Only a century to go..." :) Wow.
Racing at the national level 3 months after first local race......yeah, totally normal.
You're a dream girl:-)
I don't understand how you just like win a race then 3 months later you're on then ational team lol. I mean its awesome, but damn
because there is not much competition in women's cycling
@@MA_808 In gravel certainly you are right, but Jolanda Neff or Kate Courtney would smoke our asses hard.
Would have no problem buying a bike that she posed next to
wtf is she doing at 0:12??
So is that 2 minute 35 Second Mile on average for the whole 200 mile race?
Maine guy adventures Guinard-No, it isn’t. For a 12 1/2 hour, 206 mile race thats a 16-17 mph. avg. Or, about 3 min. 40 sec. per mile avg. Still a remarkable feat.
I'm coming for her grandad's titles.
That would make him so happy! Go get 'em!
share the story/profile of her grandfather please. I'm 59, did my first gravel event (actually my first bike race ever) at Cascade Gravel Ginder in Bend, OR May 2021. I did complete the 43 mile route and wasn't in last place lol. I have several gravel race events plan to participate in this year here in Oregon. I expect to be in Emporia in June, not riding but to support my daughter's attempt at the XL. Lots of great, adventurous gravel riding out here on the Oregon Coast on Timber roads along the Coastal Range. I'm hoping to get a gravel event started up out here. Interested in helping? Hit me up! some preview rides on my channel.
"There I was with a debilitating knee injury so I signed up for a triathlon."
Yeah gravel is great. I think its great to have a sport where you dont have to win to be good at it. Road cycling is all about the winners. We all forget the other athletes out there but not with gravel.
I'm cycelist I'm from Afghanistan my country is war my time is 17km is 19mi
I need support
At my age it’s just about the finish
😀👍
like wow ok
She rides in boots.... Badass!
I live turkey
For example 9:18 -- what are those sunglasses?
Maciej Pilichowski 100% Speed Crafts
too strong ?
I like cyclist
😚Alison lets meet and ride into the sun set
Hates road racing, whens the race, 3 months later riding pro in Europe! Wow! Obviously got some great DNA from your granddad!
I dont like driving 200 miles.
Me either!
She drives a Dub wagon. She's my queen......
Still have it!
@@amtetrick 😍 mad respect GQ
Turned it off cause of the 'music.'
Your loss
Nice to hear and watch a wowan doing her stuff without a mention of Veganism..... 👍 😉
@@md6397 what a genuinely vile comment
Seems oddly non-sequitur (and most vegans I know are men). Here's an epic athlete with a Master's degree and that's all you got?
Do not use a car, go to the track with the bike... "Amuricans" and their cars
Yep. One of the nice things about bicycles is that they do less damage to our already struggling environment than cars do. Kind of weird to see people drive their bicycles around in their fat SUVs.
Can’t ride your bike everywhere in some states. Where I live is just dangerous. Worst drivers in the world and roads are not cyclist friendly.
Get of the HGH or whatever your taking and see how well you do. I'm sick of these athletes using drugs and fooling the general public. She might be a nice young lady, but it quiet easy to visibly tell she is on the gear. But, like Lance, its the only chance you have at winning because most of the field is also on it. Too much money involved. Cheating to win is part of the game, unfortunately.
Man in a woman's body.
What a shallow thing to say.
