I was hoping you could dismantle & use as an arcade machine joystick replacement 😂 would need a jigsaw and hack it up by the looks of things..

Thats a nice first revision one, looks like new. Contact spray will protect the leaf switches, but the best mod of all on the Competition Pro is a generous helping of silicone oil onto the rubber ring at the base of the handle. This makes the handling much much better and stops the rubber from drying out from aging.

Have you got any idea how to determine on beforehand if it has got a rubber ring in it or a spring? And which are too stiff? I have Competition Pro (micro switches for the stick, contacts for the fire button) with a rubber ring in it and is quite supple. But the 'The Arcade' (by Suzo from Holland) that I've got has the same size rubber ring in it that is so stiff that it's unplayable.

Thanks. Is there a name difference between the leaf version and the microswitch version? Mk 1, Mk 2, anything on the box?

Not that I'm aware of. I don't have a microswitch version to compare them but just looking at images online they look exactly the same. Both just have the "competition pro" text across the rear.
The boxes may be different but again can't say for sure without seeing both
