Work provided me with a precision 3581, spec'd with a 13800H, A1000, 64Gb ram, 2TB ssd and the 100% srgb 1080p screen. I'm a software engineer that develops applications used by the mining industry that process very large sets of data. Pros: - Very fast. The 13800H is a beast. I would recommend the 13700H though, the only difference is 200mhz on the base and turbo clock. - the ssd is also insanely fast. About 7TB/s sequential read and write. 4k random read and read is very very good too. - mine has the 99wh battery. Windows estimates about 10 hours with light use. - the ax200 NIC is great, no issues with Ethernet or wireless. Cons: - The CPU gets very hot very quickly. Just idling with AC power, it will randomly have to spin the fan up every few minutes. When on battery and idling, the fans spin up rarely. The fan noise signature is OK when the laptop is flat on a hard surface but if its raised, it develops an annoying pitch. - the screen resolution sux. It's 2023 and it's a workstation laptop, it should be at least 1200p imo. Luckily I work on external monitors, but occasionally when I have had to use it without a monitor ive been wanting more vertical res. - the keyboard is ordinary. It's not bad, but it's not a lenovo. Being offset because of the numpad kind of sux too. - my particular sample has a small amount of coil whine when plugged in to AC power. I would recommend this laptop to users who need a super powerful laptop and can work on external monitors most of the time. For casual office users I think there are better options.
Hi @wht32, a very apt review of the product. I really agree with the statement "I would recommend this laptop to users who need a super powerful laptop and can work on external monitors most of the time."
@@RonaRigs we have Latitude 5510, 5520, 5530, 5540 series in our company all with a single FAN setup (CPU 15w TDP), i have now the Precision 3581 with an 13800H (45w TDP) how the fak can this cooled by an single FAN too, thats pure shit of engineering, that's is why it is so loud...
Thanks for sharing. I searched for Dell models that can be used for 3D molding, rendering and video editing, from Precision, XPS, alienware, G series to Latitude .... Considering the "overall quality and stability", I think this 3581 (2023) is the best choice.
Hello, Thanks for the detailed review. I am planning to buy Precision 3581. Just following up, How is it going with the machine? any further observations?
No worries, a couple of observations: 1: I would configure my machine with 32GB ram, as I can notice a difference when doing video rendering. 2: I would do a custom order and include the larger battery and 5G model. Apart from that, it is such a good work laptop.
My Latitude 5310 has the same grey coating over black plastic as this new laptop. It too began to look old and beaten up in short order. Dell has chosen this design for all of its new Latitude and most of its Precision models it seems. It gives them a cheap, shabby look IMO. I also take issue with their latest iteration of a keyboard layout: Putting the _home_ and _end_ keys on the Fn layer defeats the purpose of having a full-sized keyboard. Highlighting secondary functions rather than F-key numbers makes it tricky to find the right F-key. This used to be the other way around on older, more sensible Dell laptops. Oh, and if you get one with a power-button-integrated fingerprint reader, you lose the power on/off light. Dell needs to return to common sense. Nice robe BTW ;)
@@RonaRigs Indeed. Dell should have gone with the older Latitude 5500 series black coating which is less likely to reveal scratches and chip marks. BTW it turns out the new power button with an integrated fingerprint reader has a light in the form of a ring around the button, so this is a welcome development. Still, such indicator lights should be located on the edge of the laptop so they can be seen when the lid is closed IMO. The top row of keys need to return to their previous state though. Not being able to discern F-key numbers just doesn't cut it for professionals. This is meant to be a business machine after all, not a multimedia player. The small case icons should also be properly lit like the top row of F-key numbers. These are not new notions - laptops were designed this way in the past for good reason. One last thing: Bring back the HDD indicator light: Contrary to some disinfo out there, this is NOT a dispensable light in the world of computing. Peace and love ❤

Unfortunately 13700H in combination with 64GB of RAM is not possible.
you can always sell the memory and add 64gb on your own@@jarvis1712

Hello, I am thinking of buying this laptop. Can you tell me something about the temperatures? Is the laptop noisy?
Some people are complaining about its heating issues. Can't come to any decision of buying it or not.
Hi sir
what dedicated card GPU have you purchased ?
How many fan are they ?
It has 1 fan/blower.
Hii is this good for video and photo editing?
How long does the battery last
Can the 4-cell battery be upgraded to the 6-cell, or is the chassis different?
Yep, the battery can be upgraded to 6 cell 97wh.
The laptop came with an Nvidia RTX A1000 6GB GPU. Unsure as to how many fans it has. Cheers

@@sujitsaha594 No issues re heat, I think this is because it has a good built in fan.

Agreed, the grey coating is pretty shite. I've had to cover my laptop with my daughters stickers to hide the scratches.

What sort of GPU it has. I mean NVIDIA
