Hi There! I’m Brittney from the podcast mentioned. Someone was kind enough to pass this along to me for a watch. These are all great points David. As uncomfortable as it may be hearing my mistakes outlined, it’s a big part of why I was eager to go on Will’s podcast. I tried to be as open and honest as possible, regardless of how ignorant or naive it may have made me sound. I loved your (#4 point- I believe?) about buying as an entrepreneur vs as an investor, that was probably the only item on your list I hadn’t learned the hard way yet post acquisition. The other items I feel painfully aware of in hindsight :) I loved that perspective & hadn’t considered that previously. Thank you for delivering this information in an educational & thoughtful way, I got nervous when you took your glasses off the first time that you were really going to lay into me 😅
Hi Brittney - This is my first time finding Mr. Barnett's channel. I left a comment on your original AM video about cautionary tales. I was basically referring to the things outlined in the Barnett video, I just didn't know how to call that out without coming across mean/overly critical. The main thing that kept jumping out to me was you referring to yourself AND your husband as "off the charts risk tolerant" -- while it may be OK for one of you to be that way, it can be a little dangerous if you both are. Just something to mindful of. Overall, I think it's great you put yourself out there and can hopefully get good advice from this video and other commenters. Me and my wife often wonder how many folks Codie Sanchez has harmed by making entrepreneurship via acquisition look so easy. While searching for a business is difficult, RUNNING the business is a whole different beast and Codie never talks about that. Anyway, I'm a corporate business strategist fulltime, but I also consult to small businesses on the side regarding growth strategy, market fit, and operations. My wife is a management consultant focusing on people development and workplace culture. We'd both be happy to chat with you and your husband at some point to see if we can offer a little advice. We recently had a newborn so the convo would have to wait until maybe January or February but we're both happy to help. I'll find you on LinkedIn and send you a message.
@@HurricaneChise oh that’s kind of you, thank you! I will always take any advice I can get 😊 congrats on the baby!! If I described our high risk tolerance in a positive way, I meant it more in a factual way. We’ve lived enough life together to know the occasional consequences first hand. There are times I’m thankful for our bias towards action, but plenty of times I wish, at least one of us, was built differently. It gets added to the long list of items I am constantly working on improving about myself. Per Codie, I was not aware until after this episode aired that she was controversial, or that people would feel I was advocating for her. I simply heard her once on podcast & ran with it. I’m sorry to hear that she may be misleading people.
Considering how well you have responded & taken on board all the information shows why you have been able to stay strong clearly you have entrepreneurial durability & quick learning goodluck on your rest of your business journey
Brittney, thank you so much for sharing your story, first timer ETA in searching phase, learned a great deal of detail from both this video and yours on AM! I appreciate being able to stand on your shoulders!
I have been a long time watcher of your channel & of acquiring minds what a great youtube crossover 😂 & two great sources of information, he actually has many videos I have seen about over 5 of people speaking about challenges/business acquisitions going wrong
Yes, Will is well aware that it doesn't always work out. He tries to bring a balanced message. It can be hard to find people who want to talk about deals that aren't quite successful or have failed completely.
Thanks David. A good analysis of an all too common and totally avoidable problem. Experience really is the best teacher, either your own or someone else's.

This is a great video and I learned a lot. Does your course cover how to identify the best business for one to buy based on current work experience, lifestyle goals, time spent in the business, etc? Thank you.
