I've been a Milwaukee fanboy (have many of their power tools and a blower) but since they've decided against releasing a mower in the foreseeable future, I'm gonna go get myself an ego mower and string trimmer combo. It looks like I'm gonna be real happy with those purchases. Thanks for the video!
Glad you liked the video - the mowers/snow blowers are where the rubber meets the road. Currently Milwaukee batteries are just not up to powering those kinds of tools.
I just got an Ego mower 3 days ago and I'm super happy with it. It's soooo much lighter than the Black and Decker battery powered mower I've had for 7 years. It had no issue with the hills on my property. And those batteries charged fully in 45 minutes or less. (from the 30% charge they initially came with)
@@Kitearmy I actually bought their snowblower back in December and used it with two 5Ah batteries all winter. I never timed the recharge time, but 1 Hr seems about right. I'm pretty happy with all of their products that I've purchased so far.
I wanted something light weight and capable of cutting. This little string trimmer is just that ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . The battery will last about half an hour. It cuts through most weeds and grass. I wanted to see what this trimmer could do and tried cutting down some brush. It does okay with light brush but heavy brush, not so much. This is a great tool for trimming around the yard. It's not great for clearing out brush but no one would expect it to be.Out of the box, this trimmer is extremely easy to use. All I had to do was attach the guard and load the battery.
The fact that I have 15 other M18 tools is more than enough reason to go with the Milwaukee, one type of battery / charger combo and I'm good to go with any of my battery tools. I got the trimmer and an edger attachment on sale for $230 and if I could just get Milwaukee to make an M18 backpack blower I'd never have to mix oil and gas again!
I have had the Milwaukee trimmer for about a year now, it works very good, ego seems to be good also, I say you can't go wrong with either one. Good video
What’s the biggest baddest ego trimmer available right now? Also, can I not have the guard on it? I currently have the goofy 60 V Dewalt and it is horrible and if you take the guard off the motor it will burn up immediately. Trust me
so do they both weigh about the same? also do they both come with fast chargers? what about charge times? and cost for extra battery for each? I am researching which one to get..thanks
I gotta say...I was a non-believer in this technology until I actually saw it work. I bought all EGO equipment because of this channel (mower, multiple head kit with trimmer & edger, and then a blower) It's an impressive amount of power and engineered for user friendliness.
I have watched all the videos and decided today to pull the trigger(literally lol) I got the EGO. At Home depot PRICE ALERT! It was $229. On sale now $199. I also has a$20 off coupon from signing up for Home depot Pro. So $179. Plus tax Yippie!
It doesn’t matter how powerful of a weed eater that you have. Grass clog up is just normal. I have literally the biggest gas weed eater that stihl makes. It’s like $1,800 dollars. I use it to clean fence rows on the farm and it’s a beast but grass still wraps around the head. Nice review though. Looking to get the m18 so I don’t have to use my heavy weed eater around my yard at least.
I've been using an electric trimmer for about 2 years now I absolutely hate dragging the electrical cord around the yard and I spend more time putting string in the thing than I do actually trimming and cutting thanks for this video I'm going to pull the trigger soon on a battery powered one battery-powered
I have both and they are great, but only 1 thing makes the Milwaukee 1st for me is that the battery lost longer and doesn't go into hibernation mode like ego does. I didn't charge my ego for a long time and it wouldn't charge anymore but my Milwaukee still have full bars even though haven't charge it for months
Good comparison man! I'm impressed that the Milwaukee can really hold it's own against the ego considering it's down 38 volts. Milwaukee knows how to squeeze every ounce of power out of that battery platform. Any trimmer will struggle with grass that tall, that was a good stress test for sure :) so much for that claimed hour run time lol (normal maintained lawns of course!)
Milwaukee has come a long way - that being said all I need to do is pop in a 7.5Ah in the EGO, and I would run circles around the Milwaukee. I think for normal conditions 1 hours is about right - this stuff was nasty.
@DrgnFlys right but at the same time higher voltages have the potential to output higher power/demand/wattage with less heat loss and strain from the batteries because of less resistance. The voltsxamps calculation will just get you the watt-hours capacity of the battery to make a calculation based on run time.
@DrgnFlys Ok - I think it gives a better picture if you include retail on the Milwaukee like you did the EGO. So the Milwaukee is $250 for a 12Ah. So based on the Watt hours it is about 1/2 that of the EGO battery. So if you double the cost of the Milwaukee, which would be close to equal amounts of Watt hours, the EGO is $350 and the Milwaukee is $500. Bottom line Watt hour to Watt hour - the EGO is a better deal.
@@Kitearmy Milwaukee is a quik-lok attachment system that Milwaukee makes attachments for, you have the ability to change from a trimmer to a hedge trimmer, pole saw, and edger, plus you can use that same battery on a drill, impact, grinder, compound Miter Saw, table saw just to name a few and whatever M18 tools Milwaukee makes. Can EGO do that? So how's EGO a better deal?
Was in the dilemma between the two. Got the Milwaukee quik lok and I couldn’t be happier. I feel that the Milwaukee is more commercial grade then EGO. Thanks for the video.
@@vojnikjna30 I'm of the camp you need a good shop tool and battery and another for outdoor power equipment. The shop tool batteries just don't have the power to do things like lawn mower and snow blower.
Can't believe I'm still watching string trimmer videos! I ended up buying the Milwaukee trimmer (with free leaf blower) last week after watching tons of comparisons (EGO and Milwaukee were the finalists). The Milwaukee seemed more industrial, and the battery works with more stuff I might need. If you had turned the string cutter around to the 16" position, it may have worked better. Only used mine once so far, but seems to have more than enough power.
I researched between the two. I ended up buying Milwaukee. If you are invested in Milwaukee tools, it's better to get the Milwaukee. Ego supposedly has a 5 year warranty where Milwaukee has a 3 year warranty. But Milwaukee has a much more proven system and has been around a long time. Milwaukee is a much better balanced system between the head and the battery. It's not overweight on either side so you do not have to battle to balance it, and at 6'4", it does not hurt my back to mow. Ego was a tiny bit off balance, and moving the handle to the balancing point made it awkward to hold. Really its all about preference though.
Looks like you'd be happy with either one realistically. I think if you are invested in Milwaukee tools already it's a great way to go. If not I say go with ego. Great video again Andrew!
what a beautiful place you live...love all the natural trees. Not sure why you would want areas cleared of those beautiful trees into big fields. Thanks for the videos...it helped me make my decision. I am returning my Workz for an EGO
Noticing the date of the video I have a question about the battery. I see it is one of the 5 segment power meter type - First week of May 2020 and I can't find the trimmer with that battery at Home Depot. Did that battery come with that trimmer?
I think this has it: www.homedepot.com/p/EGO-15-in-56V-Lith-Ion-Cordless-Electric-Powerload-Carbon-Fiber-Shaft-String-Trimmer-2-5Ah-Battery-and-Charger-Included-ST1521S/303419976
Asking for a response from anybody. I have milwaukee power tools set but I want a cordless string trimmer and push mower. Would you go with an ego set for both or milwaukee trimmer and just and ego mower?
Well done video with an extreme test environment. My issue with my echo gas trimmer is that the line breaks often when I hit fence or concrete blocks. Then the string head feeder seems to jam ALL THE TIME, forcing me to reload the string again into the feeder. Which of these proved to be reliable or durable if the string breaks and you have to extend the line back out to resume cutting?
@@Kitearmy Thanks Andrew - Sounds like EGO is the better bang for the buck and consumer friendly. Milwaukee seems to be more expensive but they seem pretty reliable. So I'll ask you one more question, if you already had the Milwaukee chainsaw and Sawzall along with 5AH and 12AH batteries, would you spend the money to be invested in EGO for the blower and trimmer combo ?
@@pasqualepisani That's a tough one - Let me tell you what I do. I have a shop tool set 18v and I have a yard cordless battery set. It all starts with the blower and trimmer then you consider edger/lawn mower/snow blower/battery inverter, that's when the shop tool batteries don't cut it. It just works better for me - I don't have to go hunting for batteries too.
Kite Army - I’m going to give EGO a try with the blower and trimmer. Hopefully, they sell a combo kit with extra batteries as a set so we can save money.
Andrew - I just finished scouring the web and EGO doesn’t have a trimmer/blower combo, like many competitors. If you have any influence, please encourage them to put one out there! Please
One thing you forgot to mention in your testing battery prices for replacement batteries time for charging I don't know if it would make a difference but just asking the questions thank you
I watched all three of your videos you don't mention the batteries that all charging times or anyting are you sure is loading times on the string how strongly are through cutting taping cardboard nothing about the prices of replacement batteries how long to charges I'm where the other uses the batteries have
Thank you for the review, I think battery lawn tools are the wave of the future. I have a network of Milwaukee M18 power tools already and would love to keep the platform the same for the lawn. However one tool I really need is the power brush (and Milwaukee doesn't make one). Can you do a comparison of interchangeable tool heads between the electric platforms? Or at least let me know if the EGO and Milwaukee's heads are interchangeable? Thank you
I’m a dewalt guy, I’ve got a lot of their power tools and batteries. I’m looking to replace my gas trimmer and blower with a battery set. I was going to get the dewalt kit but I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews about their outdoor equip. Would yo recommend going with the ego kit? Or stick with the dewal since I’ve got the batteries and chargers
I got the milwaukee quik lok im so impress how powerful it is only problem is the battery life i have 9ah and it will only last almost an hr in rabbit mode
Just returned the ego and got the Milwaukee. Wouldn't have even wasted my time with the ego had I known it has a reverse rotation head. Makes trimming around the pool throw grass forward into the pool. Also makes edging difficult to cut a razor sharp edge because it's pushing the trimmer back at you and wanting to kick and buck.
Yeah - it's funny I have been using clockwise heads for so long that I have the same problems you have but with the Milwaukee - guess it is just what you are used to
@@Kitearmy I'm 43 and have been doing lawn care for a living since I was 13. Echo, Stihl, Husqvarna, maryuama etc etc. The ego is the first trimmer I've ever had the head rotate clockwise lol. Immediately I was like wtf 🤣
The Ego is in this fight with basically both hands tied behind it's back with a itty bitty 2.5Ah battery. A 7.5AH battery would take way more out of that field it would probably give you almost an hour of run time or more. Does the Milwaukee offer a bigger battery?
You obviously don't understand battery power. They are both very close in wattage. Wattage is a measure of electrical power. Wattage is equal to Volts x Amps.
Good video comparison. Just wondering if you do understand that the power of each was rated pretty close. 9 x 18 = 162 and 2.5 x 56 = 140 so Ego was down about 13% from the Milwaukee .
@@jimji2774 Don't know who your comment was to - all I can say is the math is for someone else - This guy does real world testing. Make sure you see my new video
Ego website states 45 minutes of run time from a 2.5Ah battery. Do you think this is accurate? It would be nice to see a runtime test between more brands of string trimmers similar to the test you performed with the blower test and beach balls. The field test you did above with the string trimmer should give a good comparison because the string trimmers are under a load.
I bought the Ego trimmer and love it. The biggest difference I noticed was the weight of the Milwaukee was so much heavier than the Ego. I'm surprised he didn't say anything about it, but either trimmer is probably pretty good.
Thanks for mentioning the weight difference. That's a big deal. The Ego seems like the better choice to me, especially since it's also quite a bit less expensive.
I own the Milwaukee Quik Lok string trimmer and so far it's been great! I think the main attvantage of the Milwaukee is the battery, the amount of tool offerings that come from Milwaukee is huge and is growing quite fast.
I have shop tools and yard tools - In my opinion they each warrant their own batteries. How soon do you think their will be a Milwaukee 18v snow blower?
I've watched all your videos plus several from others. I'm still torn. I'm a carpenter and have all Milwaukee battery tools. They stay on my truck most of the time except when I am able to leave them on a jobsite. I'm really not sure how necessary it is for me to stick with the platform considering they will be used at different locations. I don't want to take a battery off my truck to use in the yard because I might forget to put it back on the truck. So the yard batteries will stay with the yard tools no matter which way I go. I have played with the Milwaukees at the store and love the feel and balance of them. I went there to buy the Ryobi and just happened to pick up the Milwaukee. Put the Ryobi back and came home and now I'm here trying to make up my mind. Ego wasn't even on my radar until I saw your videos searching for "Milwaukee vs Ryobi trimmers". I'm not interested in too many features, mostly want it to work every time for many years. Right now I'm only interested in a trimmer, blower, and edger but could see getting a mower if my old Lawnboy ever dies. Kind of been wanting it to for several years now. It still cuts great but it's old and abused. Can you speak on the durability and longevity of the Ego system? Which edger is better the Milwaukee or Ego? Thanks.
I should add that I think the only reason I'm leaning towards the Milwaukee is that I have a very loyal personality. Often times to a fault. But if the the Ego trimmer, blower, and edger are better then I think that's what I'll get. I've also noticed there's a lot of unsolicited praises for the Ego in several forums I've been reading.
@@Kitearmy true. Gas lawn mowers are more convenient for me since I have to mow an acre worth of grass. Otherwise I would grab the ego in a heartbeat. But sucks the batteries are not compatible with all my power tools.
Amps are what does the work not the volts. I have many 18volt Milwaukee tools and they now offer their UHD series. It’ll run the garden tools forever. I own the edger, blower, trimmer, extended reach trimmer snd chainsaw. The UHD battery will give long run time with all these tools and then work the impact auto tools. For versatility I chise the Milwaukee.
But they make a ton of lawn, construction and automotive tools that use one battery system. I have 13 acres and mow 4 of them. No one builds a battery lawn mower for that. Still liked your review and watched all three just pointing out lots of options snd long term commitment when choosing a tool brand
You could rotate the line cutter underneath the string guard and change to the 16” cutting width from the current 14” you did the test with. I’m certain you will see much more $$value$$ from the Milwaukee trimmer. Not to mention there’s something about “Made in the USA” that is appealing. Not that the ?Ego trimmer isn’t. Thanks for the great information though. Your time and energy is appreciated!
Thanks mate. Yeah careful on the claim of being "Made in the USA" - very few Milwaukee tools are now. In fact Milwaukee is owned by a Chinese company called Techtronic Industries. Techtronic (TTI) makes Ryobi as well.
You forgot to mention the Milwaukee is a quik-lok attachment system that Milwaukee makes attachments for, you have the ability to change from a trimmer to a hedge trimmer, pole saw, and edger, plus you can use that same battery on a drill, impact, grinder, compound Miter Saw, table saw just to name a few and whatever M18 tools Milwaukee makes. Can EGO do that? You can save a lot of money by just buying the attachments instead of having to buy a separate tool for each one.
what ended the test? batterys? if so 2,5 amp hour batt vs a 9!. try a 5 on the ego and still the Milwaukee would have the edge but if dead batterys the 5 on the ego would go farther.
not a fair test for ego as 2.5 vs 9. but the 2.5 lasted almost as long as milwaukees 9. but like you said the egos 5 would kill the milwaukees on run time. do have the same as you tested and love it,. also the 580 blower that is the best out of all including my mower. the only issue with ego is that many wants to borrow them instead of using there own. I will not show them off anymore.
forgot to say that my blower 580 came with a 5 amp hour battery and have used on all with no problems but yes more weight but was balanced so good not a issue to me and mowed yard at night with the 2.5 and no one knew I did but small battery did the job.
Hey really need you help I want to buy a trimmer today but cant decided between the Milwaukee multi head system and the ego multi trimmer system, in terms of weight, power, battery run time let say Milwaukee 12ah hd battery vs 5 ah ego plz help ke decide
Okay here is the answer - IF you already have some 18volt Milwaukee batteries that might be a good choice Otherwise EGO all the way. EGOs yard tool quality and performance is way better than Milwaukee (for yard tools)
@@Kitearmy I have the ego blower 650cfm base on it video going to get the lawnmower select cut n snowblower about every other power tool is milwaukee but I was mostly concerned about the multi head from these two will the ego multi head have more power not to bug down vs the Milwaukee multi head and I dont have to get Milwaukee since I have both platforms. Also cant find any spec of the ego multi head rom etc spec I saw milwaukee multi head spec what ur take n tnks very very much for the reply as I'm about to go to hd to buy it now
Nice review. The Ego is an excellent trimmer, for sure, and the rest of their OPE is top notch, but Milwaukee's enormous line of M18 tools makes it a very desirable platform. Besides OPE, they have vacuum cleaners, led lights, even a rotary polisher, not to mention a complete line of power tools. Plus, a lawnmower is reportedly on the way! Batteries can also be shared across tool lines. For example, I can throw my trimmer's 9ah into my vacuum and it has the runtime for tackling large jobs. Or, I can throw my impact driver's 2ah into the trimmer if I need a few extra minutes of runtime. With Milwaukee, there are a lot of options.
The Milwauke trimmer is a vast improvement over the first Milwaukee trimmer I tested. I mostly agree with you expect when you talk about true battery power density - the 18/20v fall short on the high side. I heard EGO is going to release a 56v 10Ah battery - that is a true monster for monster work.
I got quicklock system recently and love the power. 1 only con I have is the vibration. I feel bit numb and painful after 15mins. Is there a way to overcome that? Does ego have similar problem? I heard devolt doesn't.
I noticed that too during my test. It is because the motor is in the handle. The ego has the motor in the head. Overall the ego was way more comfortable to operate and felt better balanced.
Tim from Canada the only difference between the EGO. String trimmer or blower compared to (Milwaukee M 18 fuel quick LOK is Milwaukee M 18 batteries fit anything in the )(M18 category of tools or lawn care..)You cannot see this for you cannot see this for.EGO.. and the..(EGO.. batteries are more expensive.)
Gr8 review. Love my Milwaukee powerhead and all my other Milwaukee tools. But very disappointed to find out Milwaukee is a Chinese owned brand. No issues with Chinese people but I do with Chinese and related governments and their growing shadow of influence in the world. I will now switch to DeWalt or Makita. History: Milwaukee is owned by techtronics: Founded in 1985 in Hong Kong, TTI's brand portfolio includes Milwaukee, AEG, Ryobi, Homelite, Empire, Stiletto, Hoover US, Hart, Oreck, Vax, and Dirt Devil. TTI also manufactures power tools under the Ridgid name through a licensing agreement. I know one cannot avoid buying stuff made in China but I've made the personal decision to try alternatives made in other countries.
Yeah.. but just try to find a cordless powertool made elsewhere. DeWalt assembles a few tools here in the US but many if not most of the parts are from China. I don't know maybe Festool is made in Germany but if you're using powertools you probably can't afford theirs.
Neat video but do they really die in under 10 minutes? I spend about an hour trimming on my property. I guess battery tools aren't there yet. And yes a lot of that time is cutting down equally thick and tall stuff with my Echo
I believe for this video he was limiting the cutting time to just 10 minutes. The batteries still had plenty of power to continue working when he reached the time limit.
But the bigger batteries are quite expensive and obviously adds a lot of weight. I think for people on city lots though they make a lot of sense with a ton of advantages
Good video however the Milwaukee is only 18 volts with a 9 amp hour battery the ego is 56 volts so my money still with Milwaukee tool. Like one of the previous comments said put the 12 amp hour on there and see how long it goes then
The batteries are very close in wattage, Milwaukee slightly higher at 162wH and Ego at 140wH. You can get a 5.0Ah battery for the Ego which would give it 280wH.
@@Kitearmy - Considering the Milwaukee's "gas tank" is almost three times bigger, that's an impressive use of electrons on the part of the Ego. Interesting, because I suspect the Ego battery charges faster.
I def think the milwaukee is the best bang for buck because most ppl already have Atleast one other m18 tool and battery. I feel like ego is really trying to get their foot in the door with the attractive price tag. Either one seems to do a great job and they perform almost identical. Still tho. M18 batteries can be found for about half price on craigslist or offer up. Where ego batteries are not as common
@@Kitearmy fair enough, just curious because of the how well it seemed to work for about 2 seconds. The head being big I see as being bad, the motor being right at the head I see as good.
@@garradmiller5025 Yeah - I like units with the motor on the head. The EGO is setup this way and the Milwaukee is not. That is the reason the Milwaukee has lots of vibration. Still, the Dewalt in my opinion is a dud.
@@Kitearmy I like the way the 20 volt dewalt feels in my hands and it does cut well when it runs. I can only get one 9 amp hour battery through it then I have to wait and let it cool down. Also the bump head gets filled with grass around the edge and won't let the string out . Bad design there.. And putting new string in is not fun. Usually have a friend hold the end of the string so a two-person job. I will give it a thumbs down.
I was about to buy a kit Milwaukee trimmer but it's equipped with 9 am high output battery and that has horrible reviews online. That made me think twice about buying it, I would need a kit because i don't have the new batteries that would run this equipment. At this point I'm steering towards eGO based on solid reviews and 5 year warranty where Milwaukee only has 3. Anyone out there that has and can comment on Milwaukee 9.0 High Demand battery? Is it really that bad? Thanks !!!
@@Kitearmy It's amazing how many "reviews" there are of these that have barely even turned the thing on! I'm gonna get one of these for my Dad, any final recommendation on which you prefer? He doesn't have Milwaukee or Ego so battery choice is irrelevant
HD currently has the Milwaukee w/battery for $269. If I didn't already have 3 EGO tools I'd probably be purchasing Milwaukee just to minimize batteries and chargers. The construction power tool folks are a little late to the game. Probably saw EGO and others open the market 1st then figured there's $ to be made.
That's my setup - I have shop (and batteries) and I have yard tools (and batteries). I don't think that the shop tool guys will ever take on things like snow blowers and lawnmowers.
Different voltages, 18v 9ah vs 2.5ah 56v. Gotta compare watt-hours.so that's 162wh vs 140wh for the ego. Pretty close comparison actually. The run times he got makes total sense.
The new EGO ST1534 has a rear motor and a smaller head with the same loading feature. Honestly I think it would blow both of these out of the water. Also at 300 dollars it's a more equal test vs the Milwaukee
I think the EGO is slightly lighter (just a feel though - I did not measure). I was going to include that the Milwaukee had more vibration with the motor in the back. For the most part, everyone who handles both prefers the EGO (Carbon fiber is awesome).
@@Kitearmyknow how much is that 10 Ah battery going to cost you $400 maybe $500, that's ridiculous....I can buy another Milwaukee string trimmer for half of that..
The milwaukee 9.0ah battery is junk, never liked it in any of the Milwaukee tools. The 12.0 on the other hand is a beast!! Similar power output but lasts way way longer on the high demand tools!! Great review keep it up!!
James I was happy/sad to see your comment. I was about to buy Milwaukee trimmer with 9.0 high demand battery but all i see online is horrible reviews. That single battery is the worst thing they ever made. High Output batteries I think are the way to go, sadly the names are so similar/confusing. So you concur that 9.0 High Demand is bad bad bad battery? Thanks brother!!!
Why don't you mention Watt-Hours? The Milwaukee's battery has 162 WH and the EGO has 135 AH. Everything else being equal the Milwaukee should go slightly longer than the EGO - which it did. By the way, when trimming long grass start about a foot from the top and then work down to the bottom. Your trimmer won't wrap up the grass around the head like it did in your video.
I think you should compare the rear motor ego trimmer to the Milwaukee instead of this one. They are the only two brands that I've found to offer rear motors which are built more like gas powered trimmers.
@@Kitearmy not sure if it's that one or not. Here's a link to it from home depot egopowerplus.com/power-15-rear-motor-string-trimmer-with-rapid-reload/ It probably is even more powerful just thought it might be a more direct comparison. I own the non-combi Milwaukee and love it but I do like what Ego has to offer. Thanks Andrew!
I think the EGO would have went the same distance if not farther if the power wasn't being wasted by revving it before the start of the trim. the Milwaukee went straight to work without battery usage
I own almost all the Milwaukee yard tools including the string trimmer. I also own the Ego lawnmower by itself (self propelled with plastic deck). I expect all the tools will last me a good while but I would be surprised if Ego's quality was up there with Milwaukee. I have dropped and abused several of my Milwaukee tools including my drills, light, vacuum etc... and have not been able to kill a single Milwaukee tool. They seem to last forever. Ego does offer a lot of value and good performance though. The 7.5 battery that comes with the 500 dollar self propelled lawn mower is a very big battery with 420 watt hours. Just to give you an idea the m18 (9amp) battery has about 150 watt hours. A lot of power is needed to run a lawn mower. The fast charger that comes with the Ego will charge it in just 1 hour. Compare that to the other lawnmowers and they all offer a slightly more expensive mower kit that comes with a smaller battery. Ego makes 3 lawn mowers, two of which have a plastic deck and 1 that has a steel deck. They also make a snow blower that runs on 2x the 7.5 batteries. They also have a commercial line up with a backpack battery. The amount of tools they offer is impressive. I like Milwaukee more but considering they don't make a lawnmower I'm very happy with my Ego mower so far. I bet the 7.5 battery it came with would last a long time in the string trimmer.
And the Milwaukee has 22 more Wh of power so made sense it went a little further. But ego was faster. Probably due to the higher efficiency of having more voltage
I’ll keep it a little sweeter this time, but again, the reason your head bogged up was because you are cramming the whole head into the uncut grass. You are supposed to use the last 2-3 inches of the string’s tips to cut the grass, not the entire string.
Much sweeter - I will be first to admit that I don't have much experience string trimming a field of grass waist high. The only thing that stopped the binding was moving slower - totally no fun.
@@Kitearmy I forgot to tell you, I loved the video though. I've now purchased that same string trimmer and the 580cfm blower due to your great reviews. Thank you! You're still my new favorite!

This is a great tool for trimming around the yard. It's not great for clearing out brush but no one would expect it to be.Out of the box, this trimmer is extremely easy to use. All I had to do was attach the guard and load the battery.
Thanks mate
I have the Milwaukee string trimmer and I'm very happy with it.also have a bunch of other Milwaukee tools so it made more sense to me.
I guess next on my list is the Milwaukee blower - no rest for KiteArmy :(
The fact that I have 15 other M18 tools is more than enough reason to go with the Milwaukee, one type of battery / charger combo and I'm good to go with any of my battery tools. I gotta say...I was a non-believer in this technology until I actually saw it work. I bought all EGO equipment because of this channel (mower, multiple head kit with trimmer & edger, and then a blower) It's an impressive amount of power and engineered for user friendliness.
Your all in guy! Hopefully were you live you don't need the snow blower
I have watched all the videos and decided today to pull the trigger(literally lol) I got the EGO. At Home depot PRICE ALERT! It was $229. On sale now $199. I also has a$20 off coupon from signing up for Home depot Pro. So $179. Plus tax Yippie!

That’s a steal. Those EGOs are beasts.

EGO - make sure you get the powerload - on sale with free battery at lowes
I have both and they are great, but only 1 thing makes the Milwaukee 1st for me is that the battery lost longer and doesn't go into hibernation mode like ego does. I didn't charge my ego for a long time and it wouldn't charge anymore but my Milwaukee still have full bars even though haven't charge it for months
The hibernation mode thing is interesting - you just hold down the button to recover
Really stupid ego rep didn't even tell me that thanks will try.

Can't believe I'm still watching string trimmer videos! I ended up buying the Milwaukee trimmer (with free leaf blower) last week after watching tons of comparisons (EGO and Milwaukee were the finalists). The Milwaukee seemed more industrial, and the battery works with more stuff I might need. If you had turned the string cutter around to the 16" position, it may have worked better. Only used mine once so far, but seems to have more than enough power.
I can't believe that I'm still making string trimmer videos...your right about power, both these models kick butt.

@@franciscocoronado7274 Right - always in rabbit mode

The new EGO powerload makes that impossible - I think
Well done video with an extreme test environment. My issue with my echo gas trimmer is that the line breaks often when I hit fence or concrete blocks. Then the string head feeder seems to jam ALL THE TIME, forcing me to reload the string again into the feeder. Which of these proved to be reliable or durable if the string breaks and you have to extend the line back out to resume cutting?
Both are good - but the EGO is way easier to load with the electric load feature. I love it!
@@Kitearmy Thanks Andrew - Sounds like EGO is the better bang for the buck and consumer friendly. Milwaukee seems to be more expensive but they seem pretty reliable. TIM from Canada you cannot compare a 9 V battery string trimmer to a 56 V string trimmer. There is a big difference in power.
The Ego is in this fight with basically both hands tied behind it's back with a itty bitty 2.5Ah battery. A 7.5AH battery would take way more out of that field it would probably give you almost an hour of run time or more. Does the Milwaukee offer a bigger battery?
Yes - they have a 12Ah battery - test with big batteries coming
You obviously don't understand battery power. They are both very close in wattage. Wattage is a measure of electrical power. Wattage is equal to Volts x Amps.
@@rcairflr Why is that obvious - I didn't get that from his comment

Milwaukee hands down if you have other tools. I own 15 Milwaukee batteries so it's a no brainer

Milwaukee has not be brave enough to take on a lawn mower - just not enough power in those batteries
But they make a ton of lawn, construction and automotive tools that use one battery system. I have 13 acres and mow 4 of them. No one builds a battery lawn mower for that.

Biggest selling point for some is the cost of the battery. You can buy another Ego for less than a 2nd battery...that makes it a pass for me.
The batteries are expensive - but they are damn good. If you want cheap go Ryobi - but they are not so good
The Dewalt looked powerful should add it to the cut test. Not sure if your string issue would happen again.
I truly do not like the Dewalt - look at the goofy head - it feels so off balance. I really expect more from Dewalt.
@@jimji2774 Hopefully you don't give my video a
This is how you do a "head to head" comparison!!! Nice work! Ego it is!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks !!!
The EGO is the better outdoor tool platform
I like how you actually put them to the test. Thanks!
No problem!
@@Kitearmy It's amazing how many "reviews" there are of these that have barely even turned the thing on! I'm gonna get one of these for my Dad, any final recommendation on which you prefer? He doesn't have Milwaukee or Ego so battery choice is irrelevant
@@TheTranq EGO all the way - get the autoload - one of my favorite tools I have ever reviewed
@@Kitearmy Sweet! I think im gonna go with that
@@TheTranq Leave a comment after you use it
So the 9ah battery only had 5 minutes of runtime?
Not in normal use but in this nasty stuff yes
@@Kitearmy good lookin out. You just saved me like $400 😆
HD currently has the Milwaukee w/battery for $269.
9ah vs 2.5ah? Not a totally fair comparison but I guess your going with what comes in the kit, right?
Those are the batteries included in the kit - Now if I used the EGO 7.5Ah, I would still be trimming now ;)
Different voltages, 18v 9ah vs 2.5ah 56v. Gotta compare watt-hours.so that's 162wh vs 140wh for the ego. Pretty close comparison actually. The run times he got makes total sense.
@@DIYDad1 Thanks mate - it's great when the math matches the results :)
You certainly make it interesting!!
Got to have fun
The new EGO ST1534 has a rear motor and a smaller head with the same loading feature. Honestly I think it would blow both of these out of the water. Also at 300 dollars it's a more equal test vs the Milwaukee
What about a battery charger for the Ego st 1534 dose it come with one when you buy it?
@@twoguysoneboat777 yes I got one when buying from home depot.
What about weight? And which one felt nicer while trimming?,
I think the EGO is slightly lighter (just a feel though - I did not measure). I was going to include that the Milwaukee had more vibration with the motor in the back. For the most part, everyone who handles both prefers the EGO (Carbon fiber is awesome).
Yeah now put a 12 ah battery in the Milwaukee you will have plenty of power and it will go longer
After that I will put the 10Ah on the EGO and run circles around the Millwaukee - though that is not the point.. This is how they are sold
@J M Stay tuned for the test - I think we are all going to be surprised
@@Kitearmyknow how much is that 10 Ah battery going to cost you $400 maybe $500, that's ridiculous....I can buy another Milwaukee string trimmer for half of that..
@@giovanysantiago5892 Surprise - as expected (well not that the Milwaukee battery went belly up) ruclips.net/video/d8GMqr2mGU4/видео.html
Just confirming there is no extra power with a higher amp hour battery. Just lasts longer.
The milwaukee 9.0ah battery is junk, never liked it in any of the Milwaukee tools. The 12.0 on the other hand is a beast!! Similar power output but lasts way way longer on the high demand tools!! Great review keep it up!!
Thanks mate...see my other review with the Milwaukee 12Ah battery
James I was happy/sad to see your comment. I was about to buy Milwaukee trimmer with 9.0 high demand battery but all i see online is horrible reviews. That single battery is the worst thing they ever made. High Output batteries I think are the way to go, sadly the names are so similar/confusing. So you concur that 9.0 High Demand is bad bad bad battery? Thanks brother!!!
@@kosinskiarek it's works fine, just for the weight and cost you get so much more with a 12.0 also 2 HO 6.0s are hard to beat as well
Why don't you mention Watt-Hours? The Milwaukee's battery has 162 WH and the EGO has 135 AH. Everything else being equal the Milwaukee should go slightly longer than the EGO - which it did. By the way, when trimming long grass start about a foot from the top and then work down to the bottom. Your trimmer won't wrap up the grass around the head like it did in your video.
Great tips - thanks. I don't plan on making it a habit of trimming 5 foot tall grass. Yeah stay tuned for the EGO 10Ah vs Milwaukee 12Ah
Nice video. I was debating between these two at Home Depot. After seeing the comparison between the 2, I'm rolling with Ego.
The EGO just got put in my garage too
Good choice,,,,plus they have a huge line of other yard tools and power station,,,,love mine sebastian
@@thomasheath6084 EGO love
Ego self propelled mower is amazing also btw, you might want to get it with the giants battery then everything else without battery to cut down costs
Yeah - that is what I do now - I buy all my tools bare for around $100.
So these trimmers only last 10 minutes?
It 5 foot tall grass - yes
I think you should compare the rear motor ego trimmer to the Milwaukee instead of this one. They are the only two brands that I've found to offer rear motors which are built more like gas powered trimmers.
you mean the power head model? I have heard that is more powerful (that is what I used in my string trimmer outboard motor video)
@@Kitearmy not sure if it's that one or not. Here's a link to it from home depot egopowerplus.com/power-15-rear-motor-string-trimmer-with-rapid-reload/
It probably is even more powerful just thought it might be a more direct comparison. I own the non-combi Milwaukee and love it but I do like what Ego has to offer. Thanks Andrew!
This is what I was referring to: egopowerplus.com/power-head/
Which trimmer has the least vibrations?
I did not notice that either was too bad - I think the motors in the head of the trimmer do vibrate less
I think the EGO would have went the same distance if not farther if the power wasn't being wasted by revving it before the start of the trim. the Milwaukee went straight to work without battery usage
I just bought a snow blower in August.
I just did a review of a snow blower in August
I think this is what you are looking for: ruclips.net/video/d8GMqr2mGU4/видео.html
And the Milwaukee has 22 more Wh of power so made sense it went a little further. But ego was faster. Probably due to the higher efficiency of having more voltage
This was a good match up
@@Kitearmy for sure. Also probably the only other trimmer out there that has a chance of competing with the ego
@@victorvannatter312 yeah it is my second favorite
How much do they weigh ?
I got rid of my ego and bought the Milwaukee and just love it
That’s funny- I just dumped my Milwaukee and bought EGO. Could not be happier
@@TheSib All great relationships start off a bit rocky. SO what do you think of the blower/trimmer. We all want to know :)
@@Kitearmy They both just astonish me at their unbelievable performance. Especially after using gasoline in both items for 15+ years, then getting fed up with the continual carburetor issues so converting to corded electric trimmer & blower an the hassles of dragging a 100' extension cord around everything. I'm simply amazed at how PERFECT
the Ego trimmer and blower are. (I haven't been able to use the auto winding feature of the trimmer head yet because I'm still on the factory installed string.)
@@TheSib Gas is dead. Sounds like you have a good combo of tools. Come on mate - pull that string out of the head - give it a go. It's real satisfying!
