More like rabid.. If you play superfruit and don't play it until the end for the bloopers you get death threats. 😂😂 superfruit is Mitch and Scott from ptx if you didn't know.
Kevin (black guy in the bottom left) is vocal percussion/beatbox/backing vocals. Avi (beard) is the bass and backing vocals. Mitch (lead singer in this) is the tenor/countertenor), Kirstin/Kirstie is the alto/soprano, and Scott (blond) is the baritone. All have incredible range and can sign outside of their vocal classifications. Watch their live performance of this at the Hollywood Bowl 2022.
So glad you’re enjoying your Pentatonix adventure! In the spirit of Glenn Miller, you may want to watch Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. It’s an instrumental piece done by a group with no ‘instruments,’ and they won their second Grammy for the arrangement. Plus Christmas is coming. Peace from Ohio …
They have a ton of music that will blow your mind.. their version of hallelujah will bring tears to your eyes, and their Daft Punk montage will blow your mind. So many more to enjoy
On Couch: Top row (L-R) Kirstin Maldonaldo, Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying Bottom row: Kevin Olusola, Avi Kaplan Avi is the bass, Kevin the beatboxer, Scott is the lower harmony, Mitch is the lead (for most of the song), Kirstin is the higher harmony
The bass singer (beard, dark jacket) is Avi Kaplan. He has since left PTX to go solo and to work with others. My favorite of his videos is called Change is on the Rise. PTX is considered one of the three top a cappella groups around. The other two are Home Free and VoicePlay and they are both wonderful with amazing bass singers that will blow you away. Avi joined Home Free for Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire and his and Tim Foust's bass tones joined beautifully. He also did a silent walk-thru in the video they filmed right after called Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget, a very amusing take off of country songs written by Tim. As to this Pentatonix video, it might be amusing to compare the rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by a great a cappella singer named Jared Halley. His style is amazing, and fun to watch. Enjoy!
The Grassi Guitar does not require a megaphone. It is just a prop to draw attention to who is making the sound. I heard it done live and it was EPIC. Mitch might be the reincarnation of Freddie Mercury. Freddie died in November 1991 and Mitch was born in July 1992. He can also grow the Freddie mustache. It is so close to matching it is kinda creepy.
Thanks for the positive reaction! It took the group 5 years before they felt confident enough in their arrangement and plan to do this. There's a few "moments" withing the video that are a nod to Queen and Freddie....the four shooting stars are a tribute to the four Queen members and to Dr Brian May (lead guitarist) in particular. He's an astrophysicist and has a comet named after him. The sprawl on the couch seen from above ( just after the visual of the stars) is another tribute Queen's album cover of Sheer Heart Attack. Dr. May also liked this rendition enough to post it on his social media along with the word "Enjoy". There is a Behind The Scenes video of the making of this mv: ruclips.net/video/Q8ugJnIG_Lk/видео.html
If you watch a live of this one, Mitch doesn't use a megaphone......it was a prop. He does the same thing live....They are INCREDIBLE!!! Truly music genius. All of them. Welcome to the magic Rabbit Hole my friend.
Great reaction! And the bass, Avi Kaplan, has gone into an incredible solo career! Please check out his powerful "Change on the Rise" and his absolutely beautiful "Avi Kaplan, All Is Well, 7 Layers Session # 126" ~they are a solid start to his unique talent!
This isn't even the first time Mitch did a guitar effect. If you dig around in "The Sing Off" videos from that show's 3rd season, you would find their rendition of "Let's Get It On" in which Mitch does a wah-wah guitar intro. Brief - but a harbinger of things to come. But you have to know that Brian May, who WAS with Queen, recommended this video on his Facebook page.
This is probably my favorite cover of this tune but my second favorite is very worthy of a listen. Totally different style from this, check out Angelina Jordan’s audition on America’s Got Talent. She’s Norwegian and was ONLY 13 at the time. You will be blown away.
Great reaction, glad you enjoyed their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody! I don't think anyone else has done it as well, not even close. BTW, you may want to check the expiration date on your mayonnaise. 😆
@@maritzalopez8313, It's been in that same position for months. It was there the first PTX reaction he ever did....and he's never told us WHY :: cue the spooky music:: 😟

They are definitely not human lol but if only one is an alien, hands down it is Kevin (the beat boxer). You seriously need to watch some of his solo stuff. Kevin can do anything. He was premed when Scott (the blonde guy) asked him to join PTX to go on "the sing off". They won, of course. Kevin speaks 7 languages including being fluent in Mandarin. Musically he is just absurd. Aside from being "a human 808" (kKvin says that in their original "sing"), he plays piano, cello (like master class playing), and he played the saxophone at Carnegie Hall. He has a solo channel. He can loop. He is literally a one man band lol Please Please Please check out Kevin Olusola doing his Kover of "Down" originally by Marion Hill. Mitch
If you're a Star Wars fan, you would be really intrigued to listen to their Star Wars Tribute that they did at one of the award shows! Harrison Ford introduced them! They did quite a good job, in my opinion! Thank you for your thoughts and reaction!
Try dance of the sugar plum fairy by them which has no lyris it is part of the nutcracker piece that is a classic and they won a Grammy for it I thinkg
They are amazing in this but you should check on some of the Sing Off performances. Number seven, Born to be Wild is probably my favorite. That really shows off the beat boxing abilities of Kevin.
I'm glad you were amazed at PTX's version of it. Yes, PTX don't do covers, they enhance them, but they so wanted to pay tribute to Queen that they took their time to prepare. If you want to see more, you can see the behind-the-scenes of how they did it. Obviously it was outside and if you watch the video again, you will see how cold it is by their breath, so you know it's not lip-sync. ruclips.net/video/Q8ugJnIG_Lk/видео.html Also, the couch moving is a tribute to their past. When they won the Sing Off Contest, Sony backtracked on their contract agreement as they didn't know how they were going to market an a Capella group (which is dumb as they were the sponsor of that show). Anyway, after that, PTX decided to do RUclips videos and were often seen doing them on their couch. The couch moving symbolizes their going forward in their career. BTW, you mentioned them singing 'In the Mood' by Glenn Miller's band. Here is their video on the Evolution of Music and they do some amazing thing on it. Please watch it. ruclips.net/video/lExW80sXsHs/видео.html Also, if you ever seen the movie The Wizard of Oz, please watch The Wizard of Ahhhhs, a project of Todrick Hall ft PTX but modernized. They have two albums full of original music that they wrote and can play instruments. Kevin plays cello in some videos and knows a few other instruments, Avis plays guitar, Scott and Mitch both play piano…etc. But they’re an a capella band, they don’t usually play instruments, that’s kind of the point.
The sky scene was a tribute to Queen's guitarist, astrophysicist Dr Brian May, and the 4 shooting stars represented the 4 members of Queen.
Well Kevin swallowed a drum kit. Mitch and Avi don't need to breathe. So robot or alien are common guesses
Recommend their cover of The Prayer.
