high contrast environment can amplify some feelings while youre experiencing it, hence why later in life such environment can bring back subconscious memories which then trigger just some unexplainable feeling to your conscious self that you cannot fully explain but you can make sense of, just like now.
really helps to always process all feelings with logic, thats how you dont end up batshit crazy.
