  • Star Wars Jedi Survivor has received a PC patch just days after release to address the bad framerates, stuttering and low GPU usage. Does this patch bring us closer to the dark side or will a rebel force fight back for the Return of the FPS?

    i have a 6700xt, 64gb of 3600mhz ram and a 5800x, running off an nVME SSD, either meeting or above the recommended. Mostly okayish, hovering around 60-80 most areas except for Koboh which tanks performance, and has constant stutters. Still has a ways to go. Also still having problems with settings changes not doing anything, and FSR does almost nothing when on quality. Very very rough port. I'm enjoying the game though. Just wish it wasn't so technically broken.

    Game definitely needed more time in the cooker. I'm noticing the animations dont line up with the environment (The running looks like he's just sliding along with no friction between his feet and the ground, and the hanging doesn't look like he's gripping the wall). Its like the character animations move at independent rates of the motion to the background, with no collision detection.

    This is why it’s hard to really trust performance reviews of someone rocking the fever dream gpu instead of more reasonable hardware. Because while I’m sure joker here is having a good time on his 4090 now, it scales far ahead of even a 4080 or 4070 ti so he’s powering through bad optimization with brute force and then telling the audience “yeah this is on par with fallen order now as far as unreal engine performance”
    It’s not.
    For starters, on my 4070 ti and 5800X set up, the starting area is not fixed it’s hanging in the mid 50’s at times once you get control of Cal and that’s WITH FSR on at 1620p dldsr. The second area of the game still performs abysmally dipping into the 30’s at times.
    Should I even CONSIDER turning ray tracting on, the fps will swing from a locked 60 to 30’s because the cpu performance is still poor, and my gpu will just be sitting there board out of it’s mind a 16% utilization.
    Speaking of ray tracing, the solution to that being “Well just turn ray tracing off” Doesn’t really work here since both consoles have rtx on in their graphics and performance modes and the game is BUILT around having rtx on so without it alot of materials don’t reflect properly and have alot of artifacting. I paid damn near 2500$ for this pc and all it’s parts to be getting performance WORSE than what a 500$ ps5 would have got me AND worse visuals because the game constantly crashes with rtx on jedah.
    This is not fixed, and this performance is NOWHERE close to what it is with fallen order, and it’s important to remember when you’re rocking a 4090 that you are rocking a 4090 that can just brute force through alot of performance problems and then when someone who has something like a 4080 even that takes your word for it, they’re going to be in for a terrible time once they boot this game up

In fact in most videos the textures even look worse than fallen order. The fact they had a "fix" ready so soon after launch tells me they knew it was broken and still went ahead with launch date, instead of saying "give us a few days to work out some bugs" .

    Are we certain it's not just a slight downgrade to uplift FPS? Performance patches, especially on Console are mostly just reductions in visual fidelity.

    • @astrojeet
      @astrojeet Год назад +1

      It's not. The game isn't very GPU intensive. Before patch it just did not use your CPU properly. And there already was a workaround. You load into a game at say 720p with everything turned down to the lowest with ultra performance FSR and then while in-game change the settings to max at 1440p or 4k depending on what your system is capable of and just like that 99% GPU usage with 60+ fps. This worked for pretty much everyone before patch. The game looks just as good post-patch btw.
      Also when it comes to GPU optimization, you always downgrade. You don't just magically make more frames out of thin air. You reduce settings in the background which is not visible to the eye. That's how optimization for every game works, you reduce the graphical fidelity but it's completely unnoticeable or there is something that is in background hurting your GPU and it is the dev's job to fix that without hurting the general graphical fidelity. Jedi Survivor does not need a graphical downgrade to run better anyway, the game just did not use the CPU properly. It still doesn't, but there is a significant improvement.

      The game is awesome, better than the first one. I´m playing with a 3060 ti on 2K with fsr. Almost all the time I have 60 fps, but in some places It drows. The performance after the patch is better.

    Dips into the 40's (fps), on a $1600+ graphics card (the fastest out rn), WITHOUT ray tracing. 😠 Calls it "playable". Are you f*cking kidding me?
    It doesn't even look that great, tbh. 🤨 Runs at 720p or below on PS5. 720p! Like PS3 games did, back in 2006! Lots of PS3 games run at 1080p. You know it says "8K" on the PS5 box, right? And "4k 120". How the hell did Sony even allow that? It tarnishes their platform...

    The game still looks like shit on PS5 even after the patch. The image still looks muddy, much like Dead Space Remake had when it launched. It is some bullshit delaying the game for weeks only for it to come out in this state, I could understand if the game isn't optimized for some obscure PC configurations, but they have no excuse to botch it on consoles, specially after saying that they went next gen only to take advantage of the hardware.

    Performance sucks & is far from performing like the previous game.
    Jedi survivor and fallen order don't even look that much different and my 4090 runs fallen order 4k maxed out at the 144hz cap at all times. the 4090 is not even capable of doing that on this game which is should do easily 4k maxed out without RT.

    • @astrojeet
      @astrojeet Год назад

      Uh there is a huge difference in graphical fidelity between Fallen Order and Survivor. Fallen Order looks pretty washed out and a little old in comparison. Also idk why people are mentioning a 4090 or whatever. The game has CPU utlization problems. GPU wise is not very demanding. You can even get decent frames with a RTX 3050 on high settings. Problem was it was only using 50-70% GPU the entire time. That is why it is such a bad port. Other PC ports at least uses all your GPU. But Survivor is not very GPU intensive at all. Problem is on the CPU side.

      @@jokerproduction I keep those off. I've had 100% gpu utilization since the day one patch. For me the problem is low cpu utilization(13700k) which this patch didn't address for me.

    • @astrojeet
      @astrojeet Год назад

      @@bodine1231 If you have 100% gpu usage then it is a GPU bottleneck and CPU is doing its job. Like as a PC gamer you should know this, it is basic stuff. You should enable FSR and you will get 60+ all the time. This patch fixes CPU usage not GPU related stuff. The problem for most people is that it was only using 50-70% on most gpus because CPU was not being used properly. That problem has been somewhat fixed in this patch.
