My grandpa is a cantankerous, Korean war POW veteran, East TN mountain farmer.
He is JUST FUCKING LIKE Uncle Henry.

(The pistol thing is from being a POW plus having always lived in the middle of nowhere and defending his property, only thing is he's also an alcoholic so it's a toss up whether he's going to tumble his old tractor down the ridge, accidentally shoot himself, have a heat stroke mowing the 20 acres of hay he grows all summer, or die of malnutrition bc if a woman doesn't make him something to eat, he eats ONLY saltines and little Debbie's. I love that old fuck. 😅)

ohhh, the moment where the main character says the title of the story…!!!! “my history is a fist” is an amazing line. it was so well-written and impactful when it was used! I’m loving this series so much, there’s so much depth and personality in these two characters! even the people that aren’t actually there, like wallace, feel so purposeful in how they’re represented. Many kudos to the writer & the narrator for a job well done!

This story is very touching. So many people grow up in broken homes for one reason or another and there is always a story that spans generations. Wars can break people. It has always been true. Wow insanely well written were some triggers there that brought up some things from my days in a foreign land when I found myself surrounded by what I subjectively felt was hell ! This/these stories are so awesome! I grew up the same way! ... Being verbally berated in the midst of working my ass off while learning classic prose. Then there is the back and forth verbal assaults. Those are always so entertaining if you are astute! Then we call it a day and GP buys beer and tells me stories! 🤠

This is why I come to MCP. I don't even bother with the other channels anymore. If it's not exceptional, I just don't have time. I'm still going to give Snakes Paw a shot just because Jack is, well, Jack. And that's all that needs to be said on that front.
The differences between what MCP does and what everyone else does are certainly plentiful, but they break down something like this:
1) Choosing the talent/stories. This isn't even close.
2) Presentation/reading/voice-acting. Topics 1 and 2 come together to form a level of craftsmanship and heart that are sorely lacking among the other known ( and relatively unknown ) pairings available.
Laugh if you will, but The Storyteller loves this work. That guy whose parables continue to change lives in this rotten world? Yeah, Him. His approval and joy in the depth of these tales and the upright care with which everything is crafted are ALL over this.
Just excellence in every way.
really brings out feelings of family trauma and stuff, the villains in our stories arent always bad people they just been through shit.. still doesnt make it okay. awh heck, it is what it is, right?

Damn... this story gets intense... it REALLY reminds me of the Appalachian Grandpa stories... even down to the drinking, smoking and cancer. I could have sworn I heard this part of the story quite a while ago... I don't remember when or who the narrator was..... and I have no idea which story came first... but either way... I love stories like this... I love them more than any other kind of story... just a story about an old person telling stories of their youth... good stuff
