It was awesome watching MJ and the stormers in that era. I used to get them in claremont and after the game. They were cool. They should have an old boys' game.
Yeah it was great in those days to be a Stormers supporter. Very cool that you got to see them after games! Old boys game would be a lot of fun. Thanks for the comment.
Marius was a great outside centre, powerful runner, big and steps well and perhaps still sitting 1 or 2 in my opinion for the Springboks. He was 384% better than Wayne Julies, and should've played in the 2007 World Cup, .... oh it's quota and politics again.
Feel bad for Andre Snyman, he was a great player but never made it to any of the World Cups. He should definitely made it in 1999, but he lost his knees in 1999 against the All Blacks. I thought Andre Snyman would probably be a better choice ahead of Jorie Muller in the 2003 World Cup when Marius got injured.
@@Wolf-hh4rv What a shame because after he scored that try in 1999 against NZ, he never got back to his full. I think he only played a handful of tests under Rudolf and 1 test under Jake on the wing.
Agree...with all the political interference...all the huge egos(players, coaches and administrators)it's actually a miracle that we've won the WC four times....no other team has to deal with what the Springboks have to deal with...and to be honest...who on earth is one day going to replace Rassie?
Over training the players. Honestly until Jake I think all the coaches were confused as to whether they were training a rugby team or the army. Straueli in particular sounds like a total disaster.
Sadly I believe our sportsmen and women prosper despite the system not because of it. That said, rugby is far and away the best-run organisation right now.
In real life he is actually quite a big man..big head..and tall..stats ont tell the real story.stats back then was 1.89cm at 95kg..would easily be around 105kg today
Danie Gerber. He also scored the first 5-point try in a Springbok jersey in that same test. Before 1992 a try counted 4 points.
Yes, that's excellent trivia right there! In fact, that should be a future trivia question on this channel I think! Thanks Stefan.

Great interview once more Peter! Marius Joubert was a top centre & formed a great partnership with De Wet Barry!
Thanks Sean. I agree, the Marius & De Wet combo was superb.
@@frontrowrugby but Jean de Villiers &Jacques Fourie were the best in the last 20 years!
As a partnership..they were the most penalised.yellow carded partnership we ever had.
Another great one Peter...remember his hat trick agianst the ABs like it happened yesterday..
Loved every moment of that game.Still think of it, I remember thinking Marius was going to make history as one of the bok greats
Thanks Sakabula! Yeah, a memorable day indeed. Very special.

Danie Gerber - who score two tries against the All Blacks at Ellis Park
And he was my first favourite player!

Snyman was a wonderful player indeed.
Snyman was fast and incredibly strong. Another player that we probably never saw play enough

The more i listen to these stories, the more unprofessional i realise our Bok administrators have been, actually bloody embarrassing..
Absolutely. It's much better now but no doubt for the longest time rugby in South Africa has been a professional sport run by amateurs.

Yeah and they seem to get bigger every year!
One of SA’s best 13s. Should have played many more. Big strong guy. Straueli sounds like a complete disaster.
Agreed, a wonderful outside centre in his day. Straeuli certainly made a few mistakes.
