    Most people think the tighter you get the offset the better...but what you want to do is match your offset height as close as you can to you primary optic height. That way all you have to do to obtain sight picture is rotate the gun, if they are different heights you will have to rotate and also adjust your cheekweld for height

      @jlpowell8432 2 года назад

      exactly what I'm trying to research here. I am going to be running a Wilson Defense one piece scope mount. They have a 1.70 or 1.75 high can choose from. Do we know what height the arisaka standard plate will cause a holosun 515cm to sit at? It says 1.5-1.8 which is a lot of variance.

    • @BuckFoeJiden
      @BuckFoeJiden Год назад

      I'd much rather run a top mounted red dot at 12 o'clock.
      I went with a side charging AR running that setup with a solid cheek riser and have absolutely no issue running the dot upright, or canted and acquiring sight picture of the dot in my left eye.
      You end up with your optic that has a height over center line of bore of about 2 and a half inches, and your dot is around 4.5" high.
      Running a BDC reticle, my LPVO is zeroed in accordance with the manual, but by red dot is zeroed at 66 yards.
      16" barrel, 3kfps projectile velocity average and 4.5" over bore sets the point of impact spread somewhat around 2.5" low at 25 yards, 2" high at 175 yards, and 3" low at 300 yards.
      It's a very simple aiming solution and if you're the type who has NODS, you find that's easier too.
      Try it some time, and once you get used to it, you won't go back.

      @@BuckFoeJiden you bastard. Was just about to by an offset. Now I need to reconsider. Canting the rifle puts my dominant left eye at 12 over the lpvo

      @@bobbywilliams8096 the only utility I've ever gotten from wish gear is trying new setups at the range to see how they feel before I invest any serious money into legit gear lmao.
      Give the top mounted dot a shot man. You can cant to the left if you're a right handed shooter, or just chin weld the rifle and aim with your right eye. Both systems work well.
      The only con I've found to the system is its a little tough to get a solid sight picture firing from the prone, but if I'm prone, I'm probably going to be using a scope anyway, so...

    Sold. That the Arisaka maintains blre axis was the very detail I have been looking for for days. Going to buy the Arisaka mount. I have a larger scope, Primary Arms GLX 6-24x, and the T Rex Arms is too close to my scope when mounted. I have no field of view at all. I noticed that in Lucas' video, his scopes are lower power , which is probably 1-8× power, which doesnt have the cone in front like higher magnification scopes, so the T Rex arms mount will work in that setup. But not mine, since I want my scope for long range shooting and cantid red dot for close encounters.

    Great video - I was really wondering what that Arisaka option was about after finding T.Red Arms. Can you recommend a good yet affordable LPVO AR mount alternative to the very expensive Scalarworks LEAP/08 30mm Scope QD Mount that T.Rex Arms recommends? That's just too pricey.

    • @danskhunder1
      @danskhunder1  2 года назад +1

      Agreed, scalarworks mounts are definitely expensive. There are quite a few mounts out there you could look into depending on your budget, more of the quality ones are between 180-250 depending on what brand you go with. Larue LT104 SPR (my favorite), Badger Ordinance Condition 1, , even the Aero Precision is a decent mount. The benefit of some of these scope mounts (definitely not the Aero Precision though) is they offer custom rings that have plates to mount red dots on them. Hope that helps, let me know if you need more info, happy to help.

    Hey man, have you ever mounted 12oclock on that razor? I shoot suppressed and haven’t committed to a canted mount yet. Is the same cheekweld that important when moving between magnified and dot? I’m thinking the higher 1-93-2.26 elevation of the dot at 12oclock would be best with the 1.5 scope mount. Lemme know what you think!

    • @danskhunder1
      @danskhunder1  3 года назад

      I don't have any mounts that can mount it at 12 o'clock position. But from what I've seen a 12 o clock mount is higher than even a unity 2.26 mount which I would consider the limit, at least for me. I have a 1.93 mount that I like with a holosun 503cu and have a unity mount on thr way to test and decide which fits best.
      The same check weld on the canted mount helps you find the dot faster so you only need to remember one cheek weld and not two.
      Hope that helps

  • @jlpowell8432
    @jlpowell8432 2 года назад

    Also I seen in comments you changed to the larue LT742. Isnt having it higher than scope bore axis awkward? Ive seen many including 'professionals' talk about having scope and offset RDS on that same bore axis height make a damn sweet transition. And they use RDS to locate further out targets then flip to scope for positive ID and engagement.

    • @danskhunder1
      @danskhunder1  2 года назад

      Im still testing out the LT742 but so far it has been very nice for me at least. I also shoot under NV so having that higher red dot helps with passive aiming and the slight cant in the rifle feels comfortable as well when trying to get my NV tube behind the optic.
      Due to the design of the larue mount, having the red dot sitting at 12 o'clock isnt possible, so this is their option. the other options is i switch back to the regular rings and get a separate ring to mount the red dot to the scope body. But i do like that the larue option reduces the overall profile of the red dot on the scope mount, not like an enormous periscope sticking off the top of my riflescope.
      Since this optic is only a 1-6x i dont really find myself in a situation where i would to use the red dot to get a general bearing on a target before lowering my eye to my magnified optic. Ill give it a try next time im out and see how well the dot roughly lines up when the rifle is held normally. Just to see if its even a viable option.
      I just dig the larue for the QD ability to hot swap the scope to my ACOG or red dot if i want to switch things up every now and then. ;)

      It does, but the controls of my holosun are right up against the ocular body so it is difficult to adjust the brightness settings. Do you have to change your cheek-weld/eye height with standard height LPVOs, when’s switching between the lpvo and mrds?

    • @danskhunder1
      @danskhunder1  3 года назад +1

      In the case of my set up, no. The arisaka offsets my holosun roughly right at the same eyeline as my larue 1.5 spr scope mount. So all I need to do is just rotate the stock under my cheek.
      The arisaka tall plate is better suited to those with say a 1.93 height mount.

  • @jlpowell8432
    @jlpowell8432 2 года назад

    Ok so what heights then are the Arisaka then? They advertise 1.5-1.8 and 1.9-2.2. Thats a lot of variance! I am using a Wilson Defense scope mount, yet to order deciding between a 1.70 or 1.75 high. Offset RDS is a Holosun 515CM. How do I know if my RDS will match those scope height sight pictures??? I agree the tall plate looks too tall. Does arisaka publish or has someone figured out the sight line height to bottom of plate at least?

    • @danskhunder1
      @danskhunder1  2 года назад

      I believe that variance is to accommodate for the different designs of optics, IE an RMR dot height off the smaller plate vs the holosun 515CM dot height off the small plate are different but can be assumed to be between that 1.5-1.8" height. I think if you pair the scope height with roughly the same height plate you shouldnt have too much of an issue, a perfect rotational axis is difficult with how many options are out there and different inherit dot heights. Hope that helps

    • @danskhunder1
      @danskhunder1  2 года назад +1

      So I've actually sold both of these offset mounts and am currently testing the larue LT742. So far its great, it just replaces one of your scope ring halves. It sits about the same height as if you were mounting it at 12 above the scope but it's offset. If you are using nvg to shoot passively it also gives you that height off the gun to aim through it. Hopefully I'll be putting together a video on it soon. But so far it's the ticket. If you're looking for an option less than 350 you could always go with the larue lt742 (82$) and a holosun 407c or the 507c (shares the rmr footprint to work with the larue mount) the 407c is around 220$
      Depends on how you feel about holosun. Alternatively, either of these mounts and a t2 holosun clone like the 503 series could fit the bill nicely.

      @danskhunder1  2 года назад +1

      A 1.57 mount will be a bit better match to the trex on the riser plate. A 1.93 mount will definately have you rotating the gun then scrunching your head down to pick up the offset

  • @michaelzeeuw772
    @michaelzeeuw772 3 года назад

    If your scope mount is under 1.5”, the T-Rex height will probably work better. My scope is 1.278 with the lower Arisaka, and I just can’t turn the gun and shoot without raising my head. I’m swapping to a 1.54 mount, which I think will fit me better anyway. Arisaka is pretty clear about the intended scope heights. I guess I’m just saying to match the two at the start if you can.

      Thanks for the input. The larue mount I have in this video is 1.5 which does fit better with the arisaka, at least for me. Good luck with the new mount

    @danskhunder which one seems more durable too you? The trex has two rail screws and is a one piece body but arisaka looks thicker. Thanks

    • @danskhunder1
      @danskhunder1  7 месяцев назад +1

      if your concern is purely durability, the Trex arms mount has only one set of screws (assuming you dont use the riser plate) and the rest is a solid body. Its two parts total, the mount and the clamp. The Arisaka is 4 parts, the clamp, the body and the riser and the plate. But assuming you user correct torque specs and loctite, they should both be fine.
      Hope that helps.

      It should. The base of the mounts are pretty much the same. There's just a bit more material on the top side to elevate the scope to 1.93" you should be good to go.

      @@danskhunder1 got it. Thank you! I have an Olight Odin Mini that I have ran very hard and decided to give it a home on a LPVO w offset red dot set up. The Odin Mini with its stock Mlok mount sits at about the 1-130 position and when I shoulder the rifle and can't to the left, I have that Odin Mini right in my view. Just wanted to know if that mount will position the red dot providing a view slightly above the light (without going to the higher riser). Or if I'll need to reposition the light to the 3o'clock position.

      @@believethehype8936 Im not familiar with any of the Olight products, but a quick google search gives the impression that its a pretty beefy light, or at least a fairly high mount. I personally have a surefire m600DF that has a swivel mount that can put it really close to my BCM rail so i cant really give you an idea of whether or not that Olight will obstruct your view. But if repositioning the Olight is an option for you then you should be good to go regardless. hope that helps.

    Very well done Sir, thanks. Question, why have Irons if you have an offset RDS? Seems redundant to me as the offset RDS is typically a backup to an LPVO/Scope or other top rail Sight, and with a properly mounted LPVO, the rear flip-up Iron is un-deployable without removing the optic.....but each to his own.

    • @danskhunder1
      @danskhunder1  2 года назад

      The irons are redundant, yes. I would consider ditching them if I had an enclosed emitter offset like the 509t.
      In my case the lvpo mount (Larue) is a qd return to zero mount that I can removed without the need of tools. So I can access my irons if I needed to.

    One thing you failed to mention in the vid was how many slots each take up on the rail. Some take 3, some take 2, some take up the space of 2 but only have one lug. Difficult to plan rail space without knowing how much they take up respectively.

    • @danskhunder1
      @danskhunder1  3 года назад

      Thanks for the input. You can see in the video they are roughly the same width. The trex mount uses two bolts to mount while the arisaka only uses 1. That is why they line up with the pic rail differently.

    I do not understand mounting your red dot BEHIND your optic. Can you? Yes. Should you? Nottt really.
    Parallax come into play MUCH MORE when optics are closer to your face and parallax affects you more shooting at closer targets as well (which you typically use your off set for) soooo you are getting worse parallax when it matters most.
    I get that you're likely running a 6 MOA red dot and aren't exactly taking precision shots but still, given a choice....Id choose it further out. It also allows you to see more in terms of FOV bc your focal point it further out.
    Lastly, it looks better in the front. =)
