Every black family is required to have this dvd or video tape in their library, this movie keeps me grounded to reality, and reminds me of my mom passing, it still brings tears to my eyes, we used to watch it together. RIP Mom! Along with "Imitation Of Life". Are hard movies to watch!
Yes, I can resonant with what you said regarding both movies. I loved Coole High, I am from Chicago, but Imitation of Life has to be my all time favorite dramas to Watch and when ever I share it with good close friends it gets them every time. Especially that funeral scene with Ms. Mahalia Jackson singing. That nails it for that movie 🎥🍿😊😅🎉🎉❤😢
I always get chills when Pooter and Preach make eye contact. Everybody was probably wondering where Cochise best friend is at. Preach shows up after everyone leaves and Pooter is the only one who sees Preach going to pay his respects, that was dope.
ths movie is over 40 years old I have seen it maybe 100 times and I still can't through this part without crying you felt like you lost your brother when cheise died Preach was hurt that he had to leave Brenda but when pooter saw him and smiled that breaks me every time

Me as well. I cried for the first time for a movie. I was a young teen allowed to go to a movie without a parent with my friends. One of my favorite movies of all time.
Respect, I am 60 Yrs Old, As a child seeing that movie, Jersey Shore, Asbury Park, NJ; and as an Adult...that scene still Tears me up.... So many memories....

I didn't cry I felt awful for him when he was jumped and beaten nearly to death. They murdered him over stupid shit he didn't deserved but for him to get into trouble with the wrong people consequentially you'll have to pay for it.I saw the movie and it was sick on how they was killing him smh he was so young and never deserved to die like that.
Unfortunately the ending was sad and Cochise's death was more of an accident than intentional, but overall this movie reminds me of growing up in Chicago in the late '70's and early '80's. Such a fun time.
@@andremccullum3066 Definitely was accidental.Stone and Robert roughed up Cochise, but Damon threw the final blow that caused the death of the future Grambling basketball star.
I was born in 1970 and didn't get familiar with this movie until the early 90's. It quickly became one of my faves. I had always prided myself being this tall easy going brother who was not gonna have anything make me cry. The first umpteen i watched this movie i always had to step out of the room when this scene came on. Not just the characters but the raw simple emotion of G C Cameron's version brings out emotions and just does something to me.
When this came out back in the 70's it was a double feature with the movie "Cornbread, Earl and Me" starring a young Lawrence Fishborn back in St. Louis at the Fox Theater.
"It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" is an R&B song written by Motown husband-and-wife songwriting team Freddie Perren and Christine Yarian for the 1975 film Cooley High. In the film, the song is performed by Motown artist G.C. Cameron, whose rendition peaked at number 38 on the Billboard R&B singles chart
Boyz II Men sang this song in an A Capalla format and brough it back to life as a those who were victims of gang violence to black folks killing each other in the streets or by police force.
I'm 55 Years old and Every Year this Song hits Me deeper and deeper..Especially when U lose Ur MOTHER and 5 Other relatives in a six Month Span...It can be hard to say good bye to yesterday. But not impossible ..It takes time tho..Stay strong My Kings n Queens..🙏🙏
G.C. Cameron sung this song with all the pain and sorrow and longing that comes with saying goodbye. No one did it better. This song is so emotional heartfelt. Can't help but well up with emotion and tears. Beautiful song.
I love this movie cause growing up in Cabrini - Green is everything this movie showed and then some! My mother and father were there during the filming of the movie and a few residents were in it too
Love the song & movie. I always cried when watching it. After my sister in law Ella Mae passed away I couldn't listen to the song or wat the oviedo. Today 2/14/22 I'm listening for the first time since. I love you Ella & this song & movie Always🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
I met pooter & the screenwriter Eric Monte at the chicago international film festival with a special screening of "Cooley High" really nice people..the funeral scene still had people crying 36 years later.. greatest black cinema movie ever made..
One of the best “Coming Of Age” films ever. Whenever this movie is on I watch it like it’s the 1st time. Glynn Turman with his Oscar caliber performance.
When I first saw this years ago, I thought the person Pooter saw from the car window was Cochise’s spirit, but it was Peach. That’s how different he looked without glasses. In black entertainment, Cochise’s death ranks up there with James from “Good Times” death and Ricky’s death from “Boyz In The Hood.”
Thank goodness this wasn't the final song in this movie, because once Preach started running, here comes The Four Tops with " I'll Be There" to kind of pick us up a little bit.If it had ended on Hard To Say Goodbye they wouldve had to keep the theater lights off a little bit longer for us to compose ourselves.
Billy Dee Williams speech in Brian's Song (1971), Shelly Winters as Mrs Rosen's death in the Posident Adventure (1972), the ending to The Color Purple (1985), the ending in the movie Rudy (1993), the death of Forest Gump's mom, the death of Mickey in Rocky 3 are the movies that identify with this moment. I cried then when I watched this on my black & white TV in the 70's & I cry now watching this some 40 years later. That's great cinema folks.
This scene is so symbolic because Preach sees his entire family, his lover, his friends & his teacher and his best friend for the last time but he knows he has to leave anyway. This scene is the reason why I can’t deal with goodbyes to this day
