Its important to notice, all movies use a given color palette(and lighting), wich in itself gives a prelimenary look to the film, gives a distiction how the grade will (in a good case) compliment the whole process. So for example for BvS low light looks you cant use Whedons fan edit level lighting AND grade.
@@TaurellFussell im no expert, but I’d assume it doesn’t change. I’m sure there’s exceptions like slightly tweaking your palette in certain scenes, but I don’t know about changing it completely
2 things that could seem contradictory to one another. 1) This video was super impressive from the perspective of how much one can AFFECT and CHANGE an image after the fact, and how much of a complex combination is needed to create what, at a glance, seems like a simple "look." I'm a writer, director, and sometimes editor, who sometimes has to color grade and it's a good reminder of how large the gap is between myself and people who REALLY know what they're doing. 2) I didn't find either image to be particularly evocative of "The Batman." First shot got closer than 2nd shot, but still maybe only got 30-40% of the way there.
Cool take on the Batman look! From a colorist point of view I would suggest you to get the look as close as possible without fancy tools. Grading by selections makes really hard to grade a project consistently from shot to shot. Overall I really appreciated the video. 🙏🏻
Hey Pietro, can you expound on this? What do you mean by fancy tools? Do you mean the film convert plugin? Not challenging you, I'm just not a colorist so want to understand more on what you're saying. Thanks!
Pietro, fire up your channel and show us OBI-WAN-Ronzoni. No one as a decent channel covering much in the way of grading, unless you're a DJI drone fanatic.
Exactly! I'm looking at this and thinking; 'DAM, just give me Windows Moviemaker!' But seriously, it does appear to be not only a tedious task, but like you said, CONSISTENT. It is MUCH better and more time management to do your best to get that color or look during filming as much as you can and IF there are any color tweaks, then make sure you have a STORYBOARD that explicitly shows those tweaks and work off of that. - James D. Watkins, artistic director of PHOENIX PRODUCTIONS.
@@henrychinaski5938 nah, what's depressing is that WB tried to cover up someone's work by replacing them with Joss (horrible person) Whedon, and putting a cgi mustache onto Henry Cavill

Haven't watched you guys since about 2017. I made the old wooden 2x4 jib back when i was rocking the kit lens. Glad to see how much your channel and these tutorials have grown!
When i first saw The Batman, i always thought it had a more traditional film look. Learning that they actually did print the movie on an actual film reel is so cool and explains why it has such a unique look and feel in the visuals.
Everything is great excepto for the skin tone and orange color treatment. The first clip appears to struggle with gradients since the turquoise and orange around the fluorescent light are kind of a mess, and the arm in the second clip bleeds it's color to the shirt that should be all white

i would like to add that most feature films also have a certain look depending on the brand of camera and its digital sensor, the brand of lens and the glass it has, and even the type of lights and lighting setup it has as well. in the example of the batman, greig fraser utilized digital arri alexa cameras and cooke lenses; both unique artifacts and optics with infamously characteristic looks. fraser is also a big champion of using led lights as well. (for more info watch In Depth Cine's vid on the cinematography style of Greig Fraser just goes to show that every layer that your visual language has always impacts the next. take away one aspcet of that language and its not the same. anyways, very helpful tutorial on how to use the different features of davinci resolve!
