Contradictions keep onlookers fascinated longer than something clear cut and straightforward.The more I see of Ivar the more interesting he becomes.I like the idea of the snake that makes its way along when you aren't looking,emerges where you didn't expect to see it,and looks up at you with those unblinking eyes.Alex has that down perfectly.Absolutely perfect for the role.

Ragnar = mythical / legendary historical figure (king arthur for the vikings) Ivar = genuinely existed, founder of two kingdoms, and all around badass that people outside of historical circles, think is fictional

you should probably learn to speak Iceland or Faroese then as that is the 2 closest language to the old norse that all the vikings spoke. I for one am half danish and half faroese so i can speak both languages and i grew up doing viking reenactment and as such is even one of 8 warriors in our small clan. We have axes, swords, daggers, spears, dane axes and lots of shields aswell. Rather be more like the old days vikings than modern day vikings.

A medieval scribe with a basic knowledge of Latin could easily have interpreted it as ex (without) os (bone), thus "the Boneless",although it is hard to align this theory with the direct translation of his name given in Norse sources.
Ivar went too nuts to be likable in my opinion.. Props to the actor, I LOVED his interactions with Ragnar, but I threw my hands up when Ivar got a "hero's death" when his character didn't deserve it. Being kind to a kid didn't change his character.
Lazy writing and a mistake many writers are making in series these days when a much loved character dies is "oh no we cannot replace him, it must be different now". No, F that. Bjorn and ubbe were more than capable of filling that hole left and did to some extent but the writing did not do them justice and wtf happen with floki? Probably the second most loved character in that series and it felt like you abandoned him.
