Jim is so right here. MK9 and MKX escaped the "copying" other games syndrome that effected MK by at least tweaking game mechanics to fit the MK style, but they went right back to copying with MK11 onward.
the ps2 games where the most creative and original they've ever pushed story and game play wise all the netherrealm games are in an infinite cycle of "remember mk 1-4" and repeat when they beat it in the ground
@@PlastiGomi Fifa does that for 2 decades now. I don't think that's even a problem. Metal Gear did it from the get go. The very 2nd game is all about retelling the story of the first game (that's on MSX) Metal Gear Solid 2 LITERALLY copied the first game, by making it in-game lore that with the "S3" program, where the objective was to raise another soldier like Solid Snake. MGS 3 is the "original". From there you have MGS V (in historical order) where the game basically goes "remember Big Boss?", then MGS 4, where the game goes "remember big boss, and MGS 2 and 1 and 3 was very cool". MGS is super beloved by anyone who played it, including me, but it's nobody I know has a problem with "omg, not Solid Snake again." MK9 was peak, because it was it's original self as a game. Ever since the "fighting community" cried a lot about MK being boring is when the shift happened into modernity - probably also because of team changes in neatherrealm. What OP was saying is, that the current trend with MK is "copy paste" MK10 - and THAT'S annoying.
