The serene and soothing effect of the Vilambit recital is enhanced by the silent spaces in singing but which are actually continuation of the recital and which are filled by the supplementing accompanists. The same can be said of the Tabla creating a feeling of slow tempo with few sounds interspersed with large silent spaces. A very soothing effect on mind is generated when listening to such music. That must be the case why people compare the experience to meditation.

In an interview by INDIA TODAY on the eve of the new millennium (2000), Pandit Bhimsen Joshi commented that Ustad Rashid Khan, amongst the male vocalists, and Vidushi Padma Talwalkar, amongst the female vocalists, would be the two to listen to as the leading torch bearers of Indian Classical Music. I hasten to add that this was the tone, tenor and content of his comments; I cannot recollect the actual words verbatim.
