- Ustad Rashid Khan requires no introduction at all in the world of Indian classical music. Ustad Rashid Khan is one of the most sought after contemporary Hindustani classical Vocalists. Ustad Rashid Khan has made his name shine along with the legendary Hindustani Classical Music veterans. Pt. Bhimsen Joshi once pointed out that with Contemporary singers like Rashid Khan the future of Hindustani Classical music is quite secure. Ustad Rashid Khan belongs to the famous Rampur-Sahaswan gharana, and is the great-grandson of gharana founder Inayat Hussain Khan. Rashid Khan gave his first concert at age eleven, and the following year, 1978, he performed at an ITC concert in Delhi. In April 1980, when Nissar Hussain Khan moved to the ITC Sangeet Research Academy (SRA), Calcutta, Rashid Khan also joined the academy at the age of 14. The Rampur-Sahaswan gayaki (style of singing) is closely related to the Gwalior gharana, which features medium-slow tempos, a full-throated voice and intricate rhythmic play. Ustad Rashid Khan includes the slow elaboration in his vilambit khayals in the manner of his maternal grand-uncle and also developed exceptional expertise in the use of sargams and sargam taankari (play on the scale). He is influenced with the style of Amir Khan and Bhimsen Joshi too.He is also a master of the tarana like his guru but sings them in his own manner, preferring the khayal style rather than the instrumental stroke-based style for which Nissar Hussain was famous. There is no imitation of instrument.
This particular album LIVE AT SUNNY TOWERS - VOL-4 is a very rare collection of ragas done by Ustad Rashid Khan Live. This is a live recording of a concert that was held at Sunny Towers in Calcutta. This volume contains the whole rendition of Raag Pooriya beautifully presented by Ustad Rashid Khan, Live. Ustad Rashid Khan shows his mastery over time signatures and melody through this Raag. The linear movement of Hindustani Classical vocal music is showcased brilliantly in this track through the baritone of Ustad Rashid Khan. The ambiance of an evening where one hears Ustad Rashid Khan singing live is an experience of a life time. That special moment is captured in this live recording, so that a listener can relive and cherish that special moment over and over again.

He is singing Indian music made of of many ragas (mood of voices) which are basic building blocks of music.
The music has no languages.
It is divine. No religion, No boundaries of countries.
But Some thing from Universal nature people called as God.
He is singing Raga Puriya, is often referred to as king of night Ragas. More impact-full if heard at evening or early night. It is difficult to assign single mood to this raga. Every transition in this raga captures a different rasa or emotion, it has mix emotions.

This was recorded when Rashid Khan was quite young, so that's why it doesnt seem to resemble his today's voice, but it is surely him
His voice has changed to expected extent over the years. Hearing him from late 80s. This probably was recorded in first decade of 21st century. HR may kindly illuminate. Plus it was not a studio recording, but a live concert where mufler was used after recording to filter background noise, thus imparting slight tonal difference in the sound.
