😂😂😂 Bougatsa is made either with custard or cheese especially myzithra. Our friends in Thessaloniki don’t want to accept that minced meat inside fillo isn’t bougatsa anymore but meat pie. Without rice of course but it’s a fact that it’s a meaty pie. I am certain you will have seen also other types of bougatsa like with chocolate or with tahini or even with cream from walnuts but trust me these are not traditional bougatsas.

Maybe that's why I only find cheese and custard Bougatsa in Athens.....
Next time I visit him in Thessaloniki I'll show your comment 😂😂😂

@@TheRoverKoala please do. Also in Crete they make bougatsa only with Cretan cheese Myzithra and it’s absolutely fantastic due to the fresh cheese. And the fyllo is to kill for because it’s super thin and crispy.

Bougatsa with meat has been served in Thessaloniki for decades, so it can be considered traditional. It is not a recent novelty like vegan or chocolate varieties.

@@giorgos1giorgos It doesn't matter if it's a new trend or old habit. Combination of fyllo dough with beef meat preferably in it even if it's minced or in pieces all over Greece is called meat pie. It's not considered something different like bougatsa. If you also had on the pastry shop another pie with meat in it how would you call it? Meat pie? Of course not since they are the same thing. It's the same case like souvlaki stick. Correctly you call it souvlaki and the Athenians order straw when in Salonika and you laugh at them and insist to call it souvlaki😂😂😂😂 it's just ridiculous to differentiate it from the skewered souvlaki.
People in Saloniki ( by people I mean cooks chef's and pastry chef's) when they make a new product ( which I personally find it wonderfull and awesome cause every invention is progress) tend to change its content and add or remove ingredients which is also perfect gastronomically but you get carried away about it and despite that it exists to a so similar form you try to market it as something totally different. Which of course it's a bit funny to say it elegantly.
