I've caught most species in Australia and a few in PNG using nets similar to the "Trap" shown in your video....much easier and safer than nets on poles. The secret is not to worry about "Bait." in the net itself. If you see fish you can catch them. Lower net into water....fresh white bread is the best bait. Roll small bits of bread into a ball of dough...then flatter it. Throw it into water so it will slowly sink into net. the sinking dough will attract fish. keep repeating every 20/30 seconds. After a while more and more fish will be attracted, and eventually there will be a bit of a feeding frenzy. When you see this pull the net quickly out of the water. Repeat till you have fish you are after. Gudgeons tend to take longer to be attracted than Rainbows. They don't tend to eat the bread, they just get attracted to the vibration of it hitting the water and follow other fish attacking it as it sinks. Give it a go....especially if you are in croc country!! I live in Brisbane...Happy to demonstrate at any local trip you take

I went (rod and reel) fishing in Kakadu once. It was an after thought at the end of a boat trip and right at the end of the wet. So I understand when you say the amount water scattered the fish! We saw a Croc, frog and not a lot else waterline wise. Lots of insects and stunning birds though. God what a beautiful part of the world.
