I love the new game, its a great way to relive a familiar place. My son gets to enjoy this that way I did with ALTP, I can't wait to show him this video. We are currently playing both games.
Whatever your preference is on how one looks, I really think the music in Between Worlds shines brightest. not that it didn't learn from a Link to the Past. it improved upon a lot of the tracks in fact, and it sounds simply wonderful.
@@JBtheJMB84grew up with a link to the past in the 90s and you are terribly wrong. The dark world dungeons themes are mostly all the same. In the ALBW the dungeons all have their own theme with is a great welcome. I do prefer the dark world theme more from the OG though
I like the new look, but I prefer the old look. It's not just out of a mere nostalgic value for myself, but its sense of aesthetic balance is actually stronger. Of course, actual-2D games in general tend to have better balance of pleasing aesthetics. But hey, the new visuals for A Link Between Worlds don't bother me. I'm not against it.
I've played through A Link Between Worlds and would love to play A Link to the Past. In my humble opinion, the old SNES' graphics hold up beautifully and the sound is still nice. There are many great modern titles, but truly, they don't make them like they used to.
I know I should be impressed with the Link Between Worlds, but all I can think is "Wow, Link to the Past aged really well considering it's 20+ years old!"
Because Lorule is not the Darkworld. There was no Ganon's tower either, it was replaced with the coliseum. The one thing I liked about Lorule was Turtle Rock, it wasn't ripped directly from ALTTP.
I for one like albw. But one thing I can't stand, is lorule. Now dont get me wrong, the idea was good. But with all the in-game references to a link to the past, you would figure they'd make it the dark world again. It just doesn't add up. They can't just transition the dark world to an entirely different kingdom, especially with those similarities. You could definitely tell, that they re-used the concept in the wrong way. a good way to put the story, without transitioning dark world to lorule, I can make an example. "Lorule was once a kingdom created by darkness, that was the land where the golden power lyed, (The sacred realm). Once the hero defeated ganon, he used the completed triforce, to create a seprate world, along with a separate triforce. The inhabitants of the dark world, who were transformed into what reflected their heart, became the residents of lorule, and out from the debris of creation, out grew a war, to seize control of Lorules triforce. The triforce, which started a period of war, was utterly vanquished, by the alternate gods of lorule, causing the destruction of Lorule." Thereafter leading (PROPERLY) To the events of albw. But, they never took the time to explain that, so it's left me to question, whether or not it is an actual sequel. Sorry, bout the long a** comment, but I figured it was the best way to make my point valid and understandable.
It is stated by the creators to be a direct sequel to ALTTP. The reason they didn't really explain the story is that they wanted a more open ended and less story driven Zelda because they were experimenting with non-linearity. IMO they did execute this but not very well in terms of incorporating the story. Also all the Lorule dungeons should have been challenging to make the open endedness fair, rather than challenge going few and far between.
UnityAlex You may have found it tough, but compared to other Zelda games it wasn't very difficult. I'd argue that the ice temple in ALTTP was ahead of it's time in terms of difficulty, where you could push a block and have it fall into another screen. (Vaguely like the Water Temple block puzzle in OOT, which was also a tough temple). The Sand temple in ST was much harder than ALBW. My point is it's very unbalancing to do that in a game where you can go any which way. It's not as if the enemies surrounding those temples were much harder either. There needs to be better ways to allow selection of non-linear progession. In Simon's Quest (the game everybody slams for bad design) it's very simple, if you go left the enemies are hard, if you go right they're easier because you're supposed to go this way.
I seriously believe that 2D link looks much better with magenta hair. Creates such good looking contrast with the green. The blonde is just meh. If they ever do a remake for the Switch I hope they’ll do it in contemporary pixel art style.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is awesome & I had a lot of fun playing it (will do another play through in the future), but I like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past just a little bit more.
I really enjoyed A Link Between Worlds, but it was a little jarring to have a game so heavily influenced by A Link to the Past and not have them use those assets to remake A Link to the Past. Perhaps some day...
(-.-) people keep criticising albw and yet I like it and my favourite is Oot. People are weird. Both are great games and both are different games set in the same world
It looks better than I thought it did at first. Only problem I have with it, is that it feels a little bland with the colours and the low resolution. Not much you can do about the resolution with the given hardware though.
it actually looks very nice on my 3ds xl screen, the controls are buttery smooth and yes the overworld feels very familiar but the gameplay is completely different, the kept the music and sound effects from a link to the past (which to me is the best zelda game) any way i know your only concern was how it looked but with a small screen the game looks awesome you should definately try it out
You know what nintendo should do? Legend of Zelda, A link between pasts. To be honest, I like the idea of lorule more than the dark world, and I like the dungeons more in Link between worlds, but link to the past is an old game, and even if your a child, and your an extreme gamer (well nintendo atleast) similar to how I was when I was a child, You find them really interesting.
that's because it's on a handheld and screen is way smaller than a tv. gba version of alttp is also zoomed in for this reason. i know it's a 2 year old comment but i wanted to inform future readers :)
In my opinion, removing the grid system would mess up the navigation. It is good for mapping out locations. I just wish the game wasn't so zoomed in looking. Messes with my eyes.
Yeah, I brought this up when I first saw footage of the game. To me this just seems like one of those things the kept because that's how it was before, legacy basically, but I think it really would have been great as one big seamless map. I don't think it will negatively impact the game though so it's fine. Haven't really noticed the zoom distance being an issue but I can see in the footage that everything is definitely a bit closer.
I use to have the GBA version of a link to the past which had OOT young links voice actor, and then I mistakenly gave it along with my old GBA to my older brother just so he wouldn't be bored at my grandma's house, not very smart as he moved out and left it over her house so neither of us have it now. Oh well at least I have a new 3ds with this great throwback of a game and some other nice ones that I quite enjoy and don't plan on loosening to anyone.
This might seem like a minor complaint, but Link is rendered too big in the 3DS version. Combined with the widescreen it just looks too claustrophobic.
I just replayed Link Between Worlds and honestly its one of the best handheld Zeldas they've ever made. I actually really like the artstyle which IMO is an improvement over the toon Link look the previous two handheld Zelda titles opted for. I would however have liked to seen them finish what they set out to do at first and remake ALTTP in these graphics. Of all the Zelda titles it's the one most in need of updating to bring it's story in line with the rest of the series. (changing Wise men to sages etc.)
That wasnt zoom...thats the new 4/4 top perspective to replace the 3/4 top perspective found in the mainstream DS games, the first zelda game, and ALTTP
I figure this is a good place to ask; should I get A Link Between Worlds first, or Super Mario 3D World? I'm getting them both eventually, but can only get one at launch.
Does anyone else feel like the camera is a little too zoomed in on link between worlds? i feel like if it were zoomed out about 7-12 pixels on all sides it would look a little better.
You're right, but also dimensions are differen, you can see that on the church, because both sides of the screen in both games show you a little distance over the top of the windows. I would say that akward dimensions cause more that "weird feeling" than zoom does.
Maaaan, people can say what they want, A link to the Past just looks better over-all, the zoom is weird and the it seems a lot of area was cut out for some reason, like the Church where there are no rows of grass to cut and stuff like that. I don't know, I don't think I'll buy this, I need to get a hold of A link to the Past on 3DS however.
link Between worlds is the best 2d zelda since a link to the past. trust me brother the game is worth purchasing and playing it's amazing. also you can't get a link to the past on 3ds without hacking and emulating
+Eddie Iler "you can't get a link to the past on 3ds without hacking and emulating" Ambassador's get it. Also, I purchased it, it's not remotely as difficult as Alttp, but the shadow link think was fun, that's about it.:P Zoomed out cam made it weird and the over-all look made it feel simply off as a Zelda game, too cartoony imo. PS: The charging is fucked up, it doesn't stop nearly as fast as in Alttp and it's weird to control, should've fixed that a long time ago, now it's 3+ years after release.:P
+PuroYO you can't say it's not difficult if the game offers hero mode man. That being said though I found that to be more than challenging compared to alttp's default difficulty, but I understand how opinions work so I won't get on you about it. While I liked alttp more for nostalgic purposes, I just can't fix my mouth to say that between worlds was by any means broken, as I thought it was a worthy successor/sequel.
+PuroYO and I'm sorry, but did you really call albw too cartoony as oppose to alttp's art style? Come on man, we get that you like the game and all but... You couldn't have chosen a stronger point? I mean you're talking about a game where you play as a kid that runs around in elf clothing trying save a princes by killing monsters who die with a comical poof of smoke. ._.
PuroYO ambassador can't be purchased dude. Therefore unless you are a lucky perhaps entitled early adopter getting it isn't possible. I Never had any issues with it. I loved it and felt the world was great. And cartoony? After praising the Zelda game where link has purple hair lol. The 3d design was pretty faithful to a alttp designs. Hero mode presents a challenge also. The dash was weird but appreciated the learning curve. It got easy to control once I got into the shadow world. I appreciated it.
Nostalgia vs. objectivity - The point is, whatever game you play first, it's less about nostalgic feelings only, than the simple fact, that the whole lore of its individual world built up your own definition what Zelda and Hyrule is and "means", whether you like it or not. From the first moment I played A Link To The Past (in a few years from now it was 30 years ago). As much as I repeat myself on youtube, ALTTP "created" my whole imagination (along with Valiant Zelda and promotion art), not just for the game, but overall beautiful images of fantasy. The older you get, the more you wish, the game grows up with your images. Of course it's a great to discover your first Hyrule again in ALBW, with a lot new things, which expanded the well known old one, but for a reason, its cartoonish (childish) look totally takes away the imaginative atmosphere, you got from those yet allusively, just guiding sprites back then. The other, much bigger problem I have with ALBW, the music! Instead of the well composed and well transmitted features of a deep and epic atmosphere, with a beautiful touch of melancholy, you now have this annoying, exaggerated jolly tunes. Take the Dark World theme (Lorule) for example, what the hell happened - Am I playing any kind of funny Super Mario or Zelda?
In my opinion Zelda should look cartoonish. A link to the past looks cartoonish too, it’s just a different much better style. Reminds me more of Breath of the Wild - a more timeless Miyazaki anime kind of thing. The best looking Zeldas: 1. Botw 2. Wind Waker 3. A link to the past Worst looking Zeldas: 1. Zelda 2 2. Ocarina of time 3. Twilight Princes
I remember when they were gonna do that originally but decided to make a sequel instead, well it would be easy to make it now on switch especially when they port this game to switch as well maybe.
The pink thing is his hair. Triforce Heroes makes a direct reference to in with that hero outside the hall; wondering if it's Nintendo's way of hinting a link to the past 3D remake after all.
I'm torn between the two as they both offer an enjoyable experience. On one hand you have a game built so well it's often played today for speed running purposes, and on the other you'll find a basic overhaul of lttp yet done so differently that it could hardly be recognized as a sequel.
I thought this game was a remake to Link to the past, but...I think I'll watch some walkthroughs on this storyline. Although, this looks like a anternated universe or something.
its a sequel to the link to the past, its the same world but new story, not a remake of the classic but rather a new story in the same world with familiar characters and places like the classic etc.
honesly i just turned 20 a month ago and i remember playing zelda 3 as a kid as my FIRST zelda game and has always been my favorite and ive played all of the zelda 3 sequels (Links awakening, Oracle of ages,Oracle of seasons,(tri-force hero's even tho its not cannon to the story) and now i got A Link between worlds.) the only 2 disagreements i have is 1.the Item gain. i know the rental system is very kool and new but i always like the excitement of going through a dungeon to get a new item. its like a reward for your hard work as the hero. 2. No pink hair. sounds dumb and personal and even tho it was pink in Zelda 3 due to color pallet reasons and has a spot where all the kooliest links are (the ones with brown hair) i always thought the pink hair made him unique. oh and p.s. wheres his uncle in albw? HE IS A LITTLE KID WHO TAKES CARE OF HIM!? LIKE HE WENT TO BED WAITING FOR HIS MOM TO WAKE HIM BUT NO! HIS FRIEND DID.. ;-;
+A mad Link in the past 1. Tri Force Heroes is canon, infact it takes place several years after A Link Between Worlds, with the same Link. 2. Seems like the the Blacksmith kind of takes care of Link, while also having his own home. As well as this is a totally different Link and the uncle has only made a 1 time appearance, plus this is well....Link, who typically doesn't get taken care of by other relatives (with the exception Wind Waker and A Link to a Past.)
A mad Link in the past Are talking about Tri Force Heroes? If that's the case the character from that game isn't the same Link from A Link to a Past, it just was homage to him.
An excellent comparison between The Legend Of Zelda A Link To The Past for SNES and The Legend Of Zelda A Link Between Worlds especially the graphics and the gameplay. =D
+timmmmkay SNES < 3DS No more games on the SNES,and new ones are being made on the 3DS with 3D and better graphics (Although the resolution depends if you have the XL or the original 3DS.) So...16-bit over 3D? No way!
No, it's a new game that just happens to be set in the same place but all [most] the dungeons and bosses are different there's a whole new dark world too.
i agree that a link to the past is much better. and no i was not bitten by the nostalgia bug or whatever the fuck you call, i did infact not grow up with alttp, i got that game when i was older, so theres no nostalgic feeling whatsoever to that game for me. its just a better game. and i wish albw was a remake rather than a sequel..
I like both of these games a lot. I can't really chose, which one of these two I like more (they're both great. Soundtrack is amazing and the visuals are also pretty good...tho, I like the visuals in Alttp a little bit more). And I can't say, that I like Alttp just because of nostalgia (I didn't have a Snes when I was younger, I got the game just a year ago for my GBA).
The only bad thing about this game to me is the angle, I know it's supposed to be like the old game but it's just way too birds eyeish, it makes me nauseous :(:(:(
the 3ds zelda game, colors are overly saturated and there's just to much jaggies. they shouldve stuck to the hd pixel art-style like they did with 4 swords on the GameCube.
It's amazing you can experience both Link To The Past and Link Between Worlds on new 3DS. And yep... Link to the past is better, am playing it for the first time, and I love it..
Although I think they did a quite nice job translating everything from 2d to 3d, the camera distance in LBW makes me feel uncomfortable. Not only one of the strong points of top down view is supposed to be that you can see what is in your near vicinity with ease (enemies, puzzle elements), but in this game specifically when you are dashing with the Pegasus boots, you need to know whats in front of you.
you know something, the new legend of zelda is good,,, i cant say nothing bad about it... but it will never be as good as a link to the past...because.. a link of the past still have a better soundtrack for example, some aspects still being better in the old game than the new game
Yeah it's true, but only on the outside. If you play it is really different, mainly because of the 3DS mechanics, puzzles are solved in an entire different way. Some other games sequels are almost exactly like the first one. Anyway, I think that's why I admire Zelda, I don't know how they can reinvent the world and story every time as if it were a different game (of course, this one has the same world). Sadly this doesn't happen in Mario, it's always the same and the story is fuckin boring (although they're really fun to play).
I love the new game, its a great way to relive a familiar place. My son gets to enjoy this that way I did with ALTP, I can't wait to show him this video. We are currently playing both games.

I appreciated it.
atleast his foot walking action is better now lol
amazing video, love things like this
Nostalgia vs. objectivity - The point is, whatever game you play first, it's less about nostalgic feelings only, than the simple fact, that the whole lore of its individual world built up your own definition what Zelda and Hyrule is and "means", whether you like it or not.
The best looking Zeldas:
1. Botw
2. Wind Waker
3. A link to the past
Worst looking Zeldas:
1. Zelda 2
2. Ocarina of time
3. Twilight Princes
Is this on the switch?
A Link to the Past is
I much prefer the sense of scale in ALTTP. ALBW makes the world feel smaller by making everything bigger.
And people are complaining about TotK using the same map
i love link's pink hair
Where is my damn fog in the Lost Forest?!!! Where is it?!
I wonder if they'll do an actual remake of a link to the past like they did with link's awakening on the switch
I remember when they were gonna do that originally but decided to make a sequel instead, well it would be easy to make it now on switch especially when they port this game to switch as well maybe.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past will be remastered for Nintendo Switch??
i wish we could have seen a remake with this quality graphics too.
Gets Link's Awakening for the switch
I don't think anybody noticed but, The Fortune Teller is the same exact interior like Katrina from the Animal Crossing series. D;
I honestly prefer a link between worlds over a link to the past.
Both are amazing but I do prefer link to the past since it just does everything a LITTLE better and isn't piss easy like aLBW
They're both good but the hero quest annihilates me when I go to death mountain.
YoshiYogurt I'm with you, although I wouldn't mind A Link to The Past 3D soon. ^^
+Lee Swords Would Link have the pink thing on his hair?
The pink thing is his hair.
Triforce Heroes makes a direct reference to in with that hero outside the hall; wondering if it's Nintendo's way of hinting a link to the past 3D remake after all.
They have the same story, weapons gadgets and maps?
Not the same story
No
still like link to the past better
I'm torn between the two as they both offer an enjoyable experience. On one hand you have a game built so well it's often played today for speed running purposes, and on the other you'll find a basic overhaul of lttp yet done so differently that it could hardly be recognized as a sequel.
opinions are opinions, no doubt about that.
A link between worlds is remake or it's just happens in the same world or it's alternative universe or it's just happens after a link to the past?
It's a spritual succesor
I didn't notice until now that Lbw has not fog in lost woods
And people complained about Santalune Forest -_-
the new look is nicer!!
That's quite a link you got there. Both of these games are my favourite 2d Zeldas. :)
I thought this game was a remake to Link to the past, but...I think I'll watch some walkthroughs on this storyline. Although, this looks like a anternated universe or something.
It's a different story line than A Link to the past I'm pretty sure
its a sequel to the link to the past, its the same world but new story, not a remake of the classic but rather a new story in the same world with familiar characters and places like the classic etc.
honesly i just turned 20 a month ago and i remember playing zelda 3 as a kid as my FIRST zelda game and has always been my favorite and ive played all of the zelda 3 sequels (Links awakening, Oracle of ages,Oracle of seasons,(tri-force hero's even tho its not cannon to the story) and now i got A Link between worlds.) the only 2 disagreements i have is
1.the Item gain. i know the rental system is very kool and new but i always like the excitement of going through a dungeon to get a new item. its like a reward for your hard work as the hero.
2. No pink hair. sounds dumb and personal and even tho it was pink in Zelda 3 due to color pallet reasons and has a spot where all the kooliest links are (the ones with brown hair) i always thought the pink hair made him unique.
oh and p.s. wheres his uncle in albw? HE IS A LITTLE KID WHO TAKES CARE OF HIM!? LIKE HE WENT TO BED WAITING FOR HIS MOM TO WAKE HIM BUT NO! HIS FRIEND DID.. ;-;
+A mad Link in the past
+Regular Random Person it had link from Zelda 3 as a easter egg
A mad Link in the past
Are talking about Tri Force Heroes? If that's the case the character from that game isn't the same Link from A Link to a Past, it just was homage to him.
An excellent comparison between The Legend Of Zelda A Link To The Past for SNES and The Legend Of Zelda A Link Between Worlds especially the graphics and the gameplay. =D
Are both games the same? I just defeated the first dungeon in a link to the past.
no
It is very possible that Gramps from ALBW is actually the Link to the Past link.
Very nice theory i love that :D
Antro.t Yes. Though it is kind of hard to picture since they might be in a thousand year gap.
Well, it's possible that the triforce elongated his lifespan
pokemonchampion6722 Indeed.
+Billyharris110 :D (Bulletbill110) Now,what do you think of the other 2 heroes in Triforce Heroes? (Red and Blue.)
SNES > 3DS
All day, everyday, till I die!
+timmmmkay SNES < 3DS
No more games on the SNES,and new ones are being made on the 3DS with 3D and better graphics (Although the resolution depends if you have the XL or the original 3DS.) So...16-bit over 3D? No way!
No offense SNES for me too until I d!
Me gustaron los remix de las canciones :0
Ugh, why did my 3DS break? Time to buy a 3DS XL or a 2DS!
so this game A Link Between Worlds is just a remake of the old game A Link to the Past with no new contents at all?
No, it's a new game that just happens to be set in the same place but all [most] the dungeons and bosses are different there's a whole new dark world too.
inceptional thanks for the info
BEST GAME EVER!
i agree that a link to the past is much better. and no i was not bitten by the nostalgia bug or whatever the fuck you call, i did infact not grow up with alttp, i got that game when i was older, so theres no nostalgic feeling whatsoever to that game for me. its just a better game. and i wish albw was a remake rather than a sequel..
You are out of your fucking mind. ALTTP was my least favorite zelda and ALBW is my third favorite.
like i give a fuck about your opinion lol
Rusty Blade If you don't care, then why did you post YOUR opinion. What if I said I don't care about your opinion?
well i really don't give a fuck about that either..
Rusty Blade u just rekt thos m8's lel
idk why but I like link to the past better
I agree with you also nostalgia hits me like a truck
probably nostalgia, atleast partially
It's just an all-around better game, Luigi.
Because of your taste
Hi they are they same games with same story mechaniks weapons and maps? Which are the differences?
M from future , Nintendo will remake link's awakening at E3 2019 & it'll look way better than original
Wow
Imagine alttp remake with the same art style as links awakening on switch
@@billybrannon2977 idk I think an updated version of the link between worlds art style would be better for a link to the past remake.
The only bad thing about this game to me is the angle, I know it's supposed to be like the old game but it's just way too birds eyeish, it makes me nauseous :(:(:(
3 people have lost their souls
thanks so much for this; really helped me on my review of A Link Between Worlds :)
I can't wait! :D
the 3ds zelda game, colors are overly saturated and there's just to much jaggies. they shouldve stuck to the hd pixel art-style like they did with 4 swords on the GameCube.
It's amazing you can experience both Link To The Past and Link Between Worlds on new 3DS.
And yep... Link to the past is better, am playing it for the first time, and I love it..
wtf is a link between worlds a sequel?? same link too?
ALTTP Seems better than the new game which looks like a cartoon for 8 years old children
If you have actually played ALBW you would know why this looks and is better.
I played it and finaly, the only shitty element of this game is the way to winter dungeon in the dark world.
Did you missed all the interest of your life to answer like a brain-disabled teenager who discovers his first pubis hair?
So why are you so worry?
19Neirda No, Wind Waker looks like a cartoon...
1 Day to go!
i think videos like these are why a link to the past hasn't shown up on the wii u eshop. thanks guys
Are they basically the same game or not?
I have played A link between worlds but not a link to the pas
Awesome!
They have the full map ready, why they don't give us alttp remake already?
Link to the past, oracle of seasons, and ocarina of time are the best Zelda games in my opinion
Majora's mask
ocarina Of time
Tell me all yours ;-)
Finally a zelda game whit the map
ALTTP is my favorite Zelda game 👍
you know something, the new legend of zelda is good,,, i cant say nothing bad about it... but it will never be as good as a link to the past...because.. a link of the past still have a better soundtrack for example, some aspects still being better in the old game than the new game
awesome cant wait for the game :)
the color palette is very bright. It should be more opaque as in a link to the past
Wow Nintendo did a remake of a Zelda game!? I cant believe it....
It's a sequel...
Its almost identical to the original. A re-hash in typical Nintendo fashion.
@@PapaEmeritusIIso your telling me you’ve never played the game
Alttp always looked dull. I prefer the bright colors but either way alttp is one of the best games ever made.
I just got kicked in the balls by nostalgia
Wow!
