    There are a couple of things I want to hint on after playing the game for a long time on hardest / hilliest / lowest density modes without any mods and using no aircraft (as they are ridiculously overpowered). The video covers a lot of great tricks and tips, but I feel there are some things that were overlooked or actually not done "corrrectly":
    1. Investment into roads / tracks are very cheap compared to running cost. So almost always it makes sense to build proper infrastructure. Also for depots, trucks /trains should be full asap, no long way to the loading station. This is even the case if you increase the default maintenance and track investment costs to the max.
    2. Always build as straight lines as possible, even if there is additional investment attached. In almost no case you should use the pre-built roads. The revenue model works "as the crow flies", so every detour means less arrivals per year = less money, while same fixed running costs. It almost always pays off unless very hilly terrain
    3. To further optimise, it indeed makes sense to build the stations as far away from each other as possible, even if at later stage you need to rebuild. Increases your revenue and with higher average truck speed also the efficiency.
    4. Use only one platform to save investment and running costs on truck stations
    5. Do not build extend the loading platforms for primary industries in the beginning; at least for trucks. They always produce much more than you can initially transport anyways and your trucks are wasting time in them. Different for secondary industries where you might need more storage space, but ideally you just have frequent truck arrivals with point 6. in mind.
    6. A very essential optimisation is missing in the video. If an industry requires 2x input for 1x output, reflect that in your line management to always have 100% full trucks. Do A-B-A-B-C instead of A-B-C.
    7. NO HILLS ON TRAINS. At least in the beginning. You must at all means maximise your avg speed on trains to keep revenue occuring as frequently as possible. Just reducing your avg speed by 10% will also reduce your revenue by 10% and thus taking a big hit on your margin. Very ideal scenario: A long, both loaded train line with one set of cars with both stations set on a slight hill and a valley in between so they can accelerate for the first minute to max speed by going down and then reducing speed as they approach their destination. Even though tunnels and terrain alignments are expensive; if they avoid a much longer detour, slow curves or hilly pieces which affect the trains speed, they are almost always worth it. In the beginning rather look for flat stretches only.
    8. No short routes on trains. As mentioned above, trains should be quite long (As rule of thumb: 1850 min. 120m; 1900 min. 200m, 1950 min. 320m), but they need lots of time to accelerate, minimising avg speed, minimising your revenues. If your train is on max speed for only 50% of the route or does not even reach it, you do not have an efficient line.
    9. NEVER ever have a train run empty. I mean not even a single car; if your train is not 100% full, you must optimise better. Always look out for goods types that can be used on your one-coach-type trains in both (or even more) directions.
    11. Stop using mixed trains. One coach type only; this makes it a lot more efficient to achieve 100% utilisation and also manage the lines better.
    12. Take very close attention to weight, running costs and length in comparison to the capacity a train brings and attach the right power to it. Its all about finding the balance of high avg speed vs. high capacity with the guardrails mentioned.
    13. Be rigorous about finances. The company value is your indication if you are doing well. If it continues to go down, you most likely are doomed, even if your lines operationally make money. Keep a close eye on your financial statements and the line overview. Kill what does not have at least a 50% margin; trucks / feeders may be excused if for the greater need.
    I only wanted to add point 6 in the beginning, but now ended up with this essay, sorry about that. There is tons of other efficiency tricks (especially on trains, using main lines / hubs / 10+ lines on the same track) where I think the implementation can be enhanced much further, maybe I will just do an intro on this at some point with a video. I am not too sure if this game is often played by players in such a "hardcore commercial" way, but if there is interest, why not.

      Thanks for that, definately something to ponder in addition to the video. I've seen other tuturials with different strategies, and I think the beauty of this game is that it has different ways to make those lines profitable, or overall a net-gain.
      Also I'm not going to say this to spite you, but you really should make your own video.
      Heck, use free AI voice to easen the burden of vocal recording.
      This is because you seem to be also very knowledgeble and we need all the help we can get.

    I always go straight to 30 vehicles on the first cargo line, use the rest of my money to pay down loans. Sit and wait for $900,000 to build a second line with 30 road vehicles. After my 5th 30 vehicle line, I have my remaining $1 million paid off. By 1857, I have 16 cargo lines with 30 road vehicles each and $28 to $32 million balance. It is quite easy to get started and blow up your balance no matter what your difficulty settings are. When it comes to trains, be careful or it will suck you dry of that $28 to $32 million very quickly.

      Been playing since the first Transport Fever came out. I found your channel after looking up some tips and tricks to refine my game play a bit. Definately learned a few things from your channel. As a long term player, I learned alot by learning how not to do things. Transport Fever 2 feels alot more balanced and refined than Transport Fever did but the difference in the economy between the two games is huge. Transport Fever 2 seems to have much better performance and seems to handle alot more of a load before taxing your CPU.

    So mechanism side note:
    Placing depots further away actually causes the transfer rate to the depot to change, a depot right next to an industry will fill quicker than one on the edge of the catchment... Effectively speaking this doesn't matter for most cases since most people don't "min max" trucking routes in the early game anyway so you'll probably not be aiming for truck frequency to be high enough to hit the profit limit. See below.
    As for local businesses, while we could go into detail about how frequency and throughput are factors that determine how much they're willing to pay for you to transport their goods, the end result basically is that there's a "profit ceiling" for shipping that is majorly effected by service frequency, you want to maximize profits by having enough trains/trucks on the line to maximize your profit without hitting the limit where you're not longer filling up your vehicles. You get paid more to ship things far away, but you're also paying more on maintenance for the vehicles, the fact is when factoring maintenance alone the shorter the distance the more profitable the line, you're also looking at a lot of emergent factors, such as traffic issues, that are lessened by not "spaghettifying" your routes to maximize distance. Having shorter trips that can focus on higher frequency and better speeds is the real money maker.
    The fact is frequency profit caps are at their peak when the depot is as close as possible to the source of goods being shipped (delivering doesn't matter as it is instant, but you only really use this when placing in town truck stops). Ultimately for both major cases it's better to focus on industries that are close together, and to put the cargo terminals as close as possible to the industry to maximize the speed at which the industry can deliver the goods to the cargo terminal thus allowing you to maximize your pick up frequency.
    Also, as a station building tip, terminal stations are GREAT for making the "rural platform" stations that don't have proper station buildings, you just build the terminal near the road side you're going to connect to then delete the station building itself and add some steps to connect to the road (make sure you leave enough space for them to fit). I always feel that this _looks_ better for cargo stations next to industries in the middle of nowhere.

      I don't think local is the way to go
      By going long routes you not only make more money.
      You have a much longer turn around time so trains will almost Always be full/half full depending on industry.
      Unless you are playing on extreme hills you can overload your trains, two minutes of acceleration doesn't matter if the drive is 10 minutes long (will still spend 7 minutes on maximum speed) but it does matter if the entire route is under 1 minute
      And engine Power is what defines Most of the locomotive cost.
      Not to mention a few very long trains are less disruptive and need less infrastructure than many small trains.

    • @SherrifOfNottingham
      @SherrifOfNottingham Месяц назад

      @@meki___6881 I didn't say local, I said shortening the routes, my comment was in response to his tip about putting depots far away from the industry to make them closer to the destination.
      I was pointing out that there's actually a benefit to putting the depot closer to the industry to pick up cargo... but the benefit is ultimately going to go unused unless you're "perfectly" efficient with your frequency so moving the station to make the travel time shorter is actually better for a lot of factors.
      It IS a good benefit to connect industries that are closer together if you are dead heading, which is very common in the early game... when profitability is actually important, especially with trucks and your initial train routes.

    • @meki___6881
      @meki___6881 Месяц назад

      @@SherrifOfNottingham for early game and wen you have auto Closing industry it's indeed better with shorter connections. But I tend to space them out as soon the cash flow is Stable enough to support a long range line with pretty much no profit for a while.
      But those routes tend to generate more Income than the trains on it are worth once they have equalized

      People might be getting confused because these features are behind another menu or sometimes 2 before it
      Getting all vehicles requires you to edit the map settings before you load a game with Y on Xbox, or the PS equivalent, then you have to go to the "Cheats" tab on map settings and then find the On/Off for Enable All Vehicles
      Even then, I've personally found that trying to change the game settings in a game that has already been started is very finicky. Sometimes the changes will apply, sometimes they won't.
      Tapping the stick once will pause the time
      You just have to hold the right joystick on your controller to change the speed to normal, fast, and super fast
      I've only figured this stuff out by messing with all the buttons and menus. Advanced features aren't super well explained and map settings straight isn't explained at all

    A couple of years ago I discovered that I could have one central distribution hub in the center of the map, radially built with 8 separate lines. It takes a bit to get them placed so they all highlight each other, but all you need then is to run lines to all sides and corners of the map (preferably with a town at each end) and it all works itself out just like your method.

    I tried to build one of these hubs using your instructions. I'm just not sure what I'm doing wrong but I find I cannot tell the trains to use any line to load or unload. It seems sooner or later two or more trains will want to use the same unload stop even if there are free ones and then just hold up the line causing a traffic jam. I have to specifically assign just a single unload and divide the trains evenly between all the stops at the hub otherwise I get a traffic pile up.

    1. I understand alternate platforms for trains purely unloading does this also work with loading trains ( and trucks at depots) does the game automatically move the goods when the train/truck come in and choose a platform.
    2. On your mixed trains do you just leave the Load goods at 100% and what ever it picks up it picks up?
    3. Similar to Q2 trucks delivering to city do you assign it just to say tools and have a line for each good? or do you just have the 1 line and use the all cargo trucks?
    4. Im a little confused about delivering goods to other towns. Do you always just use trucks from the nearest DH or SY no matter the distance?
    Sorry if you already explained some of these questions and im just a bit slow on the pick up.
    Cheers

      The complete raw material dont need to go to the depot, just go stright to the factory, the second grade material such as plank, refined oil, steel and plastic can go to first depot and also all complete product as well, but do not use that depot for tansporting goods to city, use road to link up to another deport that is just transport to city.
      I use 1 deport for 5-6 city, so I also did that with 8 platform, for first 6 is for city cargo, the last 2 is to transport goods from North to South.

      make a bigger/ better road system to input the trucks in to your distribution hub. This is a common issue. for example have a look at GTA V's port in the south of the map- that sort of setup. Traffic jams are easy to fix with A) lane management (i have a video on this, its maintaining the correct amount of lanes for tasks) and B) making the best public transport (just copy real life cities buses)

    So for the 1850's do you do a industry near city - city - other city - industry near other city train line or like a industry to city and to another industry along the way back? Like surely if you have industries near cities and connect them up then there's no deadheading at all, so maximum profits right?

    Great video, thanks for putting out new videos on this game still in '24!
    So I do have a question, why do you have to wait until 1925 specifically to start with a cargo hub? What do you look for in your game that might suggest setting one up earlier or later is worth doing? I tend to double up early steam locomotives to get longer trains, is it just train length that you look at, or is it something else? I tend to focus on maximizing numbers on a single line at a time, bc I find that with some planning and enough volume, you can turn a profit on even a 50% deadhead truck line on very hard mode, as long as your line is straight enough and you throw enough trucks at it to overcome the infra costs. But that also means I have a ton of "extra" product to populate a hub with earlier than most might. Should I try for an earlier date because of that?

    • @Hushey
      @Hushey  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Nick, it really is just a number target for newer players but you can literally day one do hubs if you want (but the trains are going to be terrible haha)

    Hi,
    Several months ago I've watched a youtube video of a gameplay. I really liked the game but I forgot to note the name. Now I can't find it.
    The game graphics look like Transportation Fever 2. More on the realistic style.
    All I can remember is the game is starting at somewhere sea side with 40ft HQ containers lying around. You hire 3-4 lorries to empty them to somewhere else. Then use the containers as living spaces.
    Maybe this is the standard game or maybe one of the maps. I can't remember. Does anyone know such game?

    Kinda hate having that many trucks though... And also changing every single line doesn't really make much sense if you're using the full output of that factory. It's only really a way to make more money from less resources mid game but you get overrun by things that actually need to be distributed by 1960's.

    • @Hushey
      @Hushey  5 месяцев назад

      Theyve gotta get distributed somehow and lots of small quantities going lots of places trucks are really the only option. Really just keep up with the demand post 1960 its very possible as seen as in this video at the end

  • @azerust1567
    @azerust1567 5 месяцев назад +1

    When you say its all automatic you confused me. The lines you set up telling the trains which goods to take where, load and unload options that you set. The trains dont just load what they need without you telling them surely? Great content btw. I have been experimenting with the hubs but run most cargo into the hub by train from the industries, seems to make it so busy I lose so much time with trains waiting for access. Also lose a lot of money.

    • @Hushey
      @Hushey  5 месяцев назад

      Hi Azer, that exactly. They will auto load exactly whats needed. In terms of traffic issues make sure to follow correct train service hirearchy seen in my latest video and if there is a choke point add more inputs. Also, i recommend long trains for distribution, 680m long

      I agree, you talk really fast (or maybe I listen slowly, lol), and you flash around the map a lot. To follow what you're actually saying and doing, I have to slow the video down. When I do, I find that the content is really good, helping me to rethink the way I build my cargo network.
      Engaging doesn't mean you have to be fast, faster, fastest. You sound like you're very young (although the sound of a voice can be deceiving), so maybe that's why you equate engaging with fast. Engaging really only means you have to keep people's attention locked on your videos. Some youtubers have an engaging way of wording what they have to say, adding in a good sense of humour, while taking their time to make sure their explanation is clear. Food for thought?
