Love Stephen King! He’s probably my favourite author. I just read Joyland last week and I remember you recommending it to me. I loved it! It’s so good. Had me all teary eyed at the end. Such a great list here!
I absolutely LOVE this video! King is near and dear to my heart. I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on your favorite King books. I could spend hours discussing his work with you. I'm especially fond of It, Carrie, Gerald's Game, and Dolores Claiborne because they include strong women characters. Salem's Lot, Cujo, and Different Seasons (especially "The Breathing Method") are also among my favorites.
Thank you so much Jen! I would love to have you on my show sometime, there is a lot to discuss. 😀 Perhaps we can have a group discussion with Kritz and Michael, that could be interesting! 🤣
Great list! I haven't read as much King, but from what I have read, totally agree! Everything I hear just makes me more excited to read 11/22/63. Pet Semetery is still the scariest book I've ever read 😅
We have the same number one :) My top ten: 1) The Stand 2) Pet Sematary 3) The Dark Tower Series, my favourite book: Wolves of the Calla 4) The Shining 5) It 6) Carrie 7) Skeleton Crew 8) Nightmares and Dreamscapes 9) On Writing 10) Tommyknockers Since I'm a Science Fiction fan, I'm eager to read the Kennedy/time travel thing, I just not got round to it yet. I read every single book of his until the mid 90s, then I lost track. I'm only now, in the last two years, catching up slowly. He writes too much, haha!
Thanks for watching! That is a great selection, it is always interesting to see other reader's favorites. I am trying to read one book a month until I have read all his works. Might take a while. 😂
Thanks Chas, The Institute is such an underrated novel. I enjoyed Wizard and Glass as well. In fact, I enjoyed every book in the series for different reasons.
I have read a similar number of King as you, though I have (as of yet not) read the Dark Tower series. For many years, I was reading his work faithfully as it came out until "Lisey's Story" and it took me several tries (and years!) to get through it. The only one in your top 10 (besides Tower) I have not read is 11-22-63. It has been on my tbr for a good deal of time! For some reason, I am less drawn to his work as I get older, however "Joyland" is among my favorites. Thanks for your thoughts!
Thank you so much! I have Lisey's Story on my shelves and will hopefully get to it this year. Did you know that it is King's personal favorite. I highly recommend The Dark Tower. If you find yourself struggling with book one, keep going as it does get better from book two. 11/22/63 is a beautiful novel!
Great video my friend, I enjoyed this so much . I have received my copy of the book Cujo . I think your countdown was great . I was happy to see Holly in the list 😊
I love Stephen King. I’m currently re-reading Pet sematary, I absolutely love it! My other favourites are: Rose Madder, Needful things, The shining, The green mile and Christine.
Awesome video with many of my own favourites mentioned too. I'm going to do an update video myself of my faves, once I've done a year of the Vote for the King project. You speak about these stories really well and I agree about Survivor Type. I think I like Nightshift more than you do. Glad to see The Institute so high in the mix.
Love the love for Full Dark No Stars and Joyland - both criminally underrated imo! Can’t wait to read Different Seasons later this year. What a great list! Love the way you say just enough about each book to get people intrigued without spoiling anything - great one! 😊👌🏽
Thank you so much Nikhil! I hope you enjoy reading Different Seasons and look forward to hearing your thoughts. I usually try to say a bit more when discussing books but do not like my videos to be too long. A top 20 could easily have turned into 30-40 minutes which is a bit much, in my opinion.
@@CliffsDarkGems ahah that’s the beauty of King’s works isn’t it? Each one could be its own video really! I love the pacing of your video - great stuff man 😊
Hi Cliff. This is weird. I left you a long comment hours ago, and it seems to have disappeared. I will try to reconstruct it. I had said that I was really glad to see you talk about The Green Mile. I love that you have the six original volumes. I only have the single volume book. We used to teach it in one of our senior English courses in contemporary fiction. It was a particularly successful book to teach especially with kids that might be considered reluctant readers. They all LOVED it. For some kids, it may have been the first novel that they read in its entirety. I think I said some other things too, but I'll leave it at this for now. Great video, Cliff.
Thanks for watching Pat! Wow, that has happened to me a couple of times. I can understand why The Green Mile would be a success in Senior English courses. Such a powerful novel.
I haven't read The Institute but I agree with your list. I also would add Under The Dome, Lisey's Story, The Outsider, Mr. Mercedes, Just After Sunset, Duma Key, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, and The Drawing of The Three. But then it wouldn't be a top twenty list
Since you mentioned 'On Writing', I'd like to say that King's other non-fiction work 'Danse Macabre' which is history of the horror genre, needs a follow up as horror has evolved A LOT in the decades since. It's a crime not to discuss 1980s horror if you write a book about the history of the genre!
very nice list with many surprises and some that i love my self being misery, long walk, green mile, salem's lot and i finished the stand recently which was amazing. i hope to read the others in here that i haven't yet
Like I said in the live chat yesterday I’m just starting on my King journey with Misery. But I knew he was more than a horror writer. So, I agree that anyone wanting to start I’d recommend Different Seasons just to show he’s not specifically a horror writer. Give them a taste before tackling a full novel.
What a list, what a writer 😮
You could have a whole year’s TBR dedicated to King, he seemed to write so many great novels.
Thanks Big Al! He is a prolific author.
I love 'Salem's Lot, Cujo, Night shift and Skeleton Crew. Survivor Type omg!😳🤣that story is so crazy! Fun video Cliff.
Thank you so much Angel! Agreed, Survivor Type is such a crazy, kinda disturbing story.
Love Stephen King! He’s probably my favourite author. I just read Joyland last week and I remember you recommending it to me. I loved it! It’s so good. Had me all teary eyed at the end. Such a great list here!
Thank you so much Jason! Joyland is indeed a beautiful book and it moved me to tears as well.

Pet Semetery is still the scariest book I've ever read 😅
Thank you so much! 11/22/63 is such a wonderful novel, highly recommended. I found Pet Sematary to be a very dark, disturbing book.
We have the same number one :)

Loved this list Cliff! The Institute has been on my list for a long time. I enjoyed the Wastelands, but liked Wizard & Glass better.
Thanks Chas, The Institute is such an underrated novel. I enjoyed Wizard and Glass as well. In fact, I enjoyed every book in the series for different reasons.
A talking train? Interesting.
Great list, Cliff!
Thanks Ed!

Great video Cliff, I knew what your top two would be😊
Thank you Robert. Yes, I have mentioned both a number of times on my channel.
Great video, Cliff. I've only read 8 of his (6 of which made your list!)
Hi honey😂😬❤️Did you finish Pet Semetary yet?
@@angelwalker979 I'm taking it real slow, aiming for the end of June (favoring Geek Love at the moment...)
