Thanks for the good teaching video and safety tips on drawing the crossdraw. As holster makers we too have seen some CAS shooters transition to what we call the "Strong Cross" which is straight up and down (without the normal 30 degree angle). Also, CAS shooters requesting the throats to be cut down and you gave a great safety tip regarding this at the end. Thanks again.
Hello friend That was a really nice video! I stumbled across you and liked your intuitive point on cross draw for cowboy shooting. So I have a judge and purchased a leather holster from triple k thru Amazon, it is set up for both cross and hip draw. For the first time just now I set it up for cross draw and I think I like it! Now my judge isn't my ccw but what do you think about cross draw for ccw?
This was literally what he was doing practicing the cross-draw sitting on a pew & it cocked the gun pulling it up & his finger was on the trigger. Thanks, watching this gives me the puzzle piece i didn't have.
Right crossdraw holster are difficult to find and are back order everywhere... i couldnt find any online or local.. so i bought a double holster.. double holster are not practical, but they look badass.. i just flip the left gun and grab it with my righ hand,, when im done i just reflip the left gun in its true position so i can walk...
Got a new Subscriber... I have lots of weapons, but just bought my first Cowboy SAA... Look forward to learning more about them here...I do have one question. I understand why people only load 5 rounds in a SAA when they are carrying for competition, personal defense, etc. Is there a problem loading up all 6 when you are at the Shooting Range? It seems silly for me to ask because I have been into guns for 20 years, but the SAA is new to me. Any advice?Good video and enjoy the way you teach.
Good video. You describe what to do and how to do it and also how not to do it. But you left out one critical part of the video. The actual demonstration. I wanted to see you actually draw and fire both pistols. Oh well, still a good video. Stay safe and shoot straight.
Hi everyone I have a question. In fast draw the hammer must always be in it's resting position correct? If one starts with the hammer already pulled back would they be disqualified? Also in old west shootouts/showdowns, did people ever start with the hammer pulled back so all they would have to do is draw and shoot? Or did they draw, pull hammer, and shoot?
Not that I'm an expert on this (because I'm not) but it would seem to me that if you're going to make an instructional video on how to draw and shoot cross-draw, you'd at least have a cross-draw holster. But that's just me.
Also, I have a Marlin 30AS 30-30 lever action. Looks just like the 336. Would that make a good lever action for Cowboy Action shooting? I feel confident with all my other rifles, shotguns, and pistols, but anything related to Cowboy action is new to me... Ideas?
I understand that the 170 rule is for spectator safety but that twisting cross draw dance maneuver in real life could be just the few seconds that it takes to get yourself shot by an attacker.
Do you know why the Ruger Vaquero over the Uberti? It seems like the Uberti is a more faithful replica (I'm referring mostly to the differences in load gate function and that "Colt-click."
The Uberti/Cimarron/Perdersoli replicas are replicas to a fault. They are SO similar to the original colts that they even have the same issues, especially in breakage and wearing out of springs whereas the ruger which uses more modern spring systems is much more reliable. sometimes cowboy action or SASS shooters will run literally thousands of rounds in a weekend, and being in a match where your gun goes "click" instead of bang or just flat out jams up isn't a good thing. That's why rugers are more prevalent. I personally own several of both and love both, but have to admit for every few dozen breakages on the Uberti/Cimarron/Perdersoli's i will maybe have one on my rugers. they really are tanks. Plus, if someone uses their single actions for more than strictly SASS (as I do) the ruger can handle hot and heavy loads that will blow up the Uberti/Cimarron/Perdersoli's without any issue. they are just heavier built and more reliable overall. the Uberti/Cimarron/Perdersoli's are much more beautiful though IMO
If you load a 6th shot and half cock the gun, the old style firing pin Is going to ignite the primer and you will put a hole in your holster, or, the table
I am a gun saftey fanatic. So I love this video. With that said, I think this host should have said upfront that he was practicing dry...meaning that his guns weren't loaded. And that's a great way to practice. But first, basic gun safety. Clear the gun once and then twice to make sure it isn't live. Maybe clear it three times. There is no limit to how far one should go with gun safety.
Ya gotta love these organizations that come up with rules and regs about what you should and shouldnt do. Just be safe, do as you please as long as it works for you and you dont cause a safety issue.
Looks unsafe... Vasectomy maker (or MUCH WORSE) as your finger is inside the trigger guard with pressure on the trigger as you pull the weapon across and in front of you...
tf is everybody here talking about? im not taking any advise from a guy that has to make a dance outta drawing, gets confused after he draws, and thinks that half a second doesnt hurt..
Where can I get a quality cross draw belt? Help please max spending like 400ish. Been looking non stop this is basically for fun n Halloween. Have 2.Denix peacemaker revolvers
You rock. Thanks man. I am a writer and have basic fire arms training, but watching you has been very informative.

Is an actual cavalry draw (twist draw) allowed by the rules of the organization?
No

great info!
When I heard you say cross draw I thought that meant to draw both pistols at the same time, might look fancy but so does a rattle snake. 🔫

Thank you sir.

Now I can see why mistakes happen during shooting a movie.

No it wouldn't, your lever action has to be pistol caliber.
Who's watching this after the Alec Baldwin incident?
true American cowboy
what about "Doc Holliday" style (Tombstone)
That would be the Twist Draw AKA the Cavalry Draw.
do more rifle shooting videos with Ryan Cleckner
I understand that the 170 rule is for spectator safety but that twisting cross draw dance maneuver in real life could be just the few seconds that it takes to get yourself shot by an attacker.
Had to cross draw due years of rein Fighting..drew sword out of left to right hand.
The cross draw dance reminds me of Elvis Presley a bit. 🙂
That is why I use double strong side. I practice with my weak hand until I am ok with It.
what are the names of the revolvers your using?
A lot of these dudes run Ruger Vaqueros

What does "breaking the one seventy" mean?
dontbothermewithchannels
Thanks Mr Akangj
Safety consideration for the spectators then?
Basically when your shooting theres people to the right or left of you so you dont wanna pull the gun out and flag them
@@steveburgos7434 Oh, ok. So a safety rule.
I use the cross draw so I can mount a horse easier.
That's how Doc Holliday killed Johnny Ringo in Tombstone :)
daisy if ya do...i heard it.....lol...doc holliday
You have a sheriff badge
If you load a 6th shot and half cock the gun, the old style firing pin Is going to ignite the primer and you will put a hole in your holster, or, the table
