The Silver Meteor blasts off from New York Penn

  • Amtrak Train 97, the Silver Meteor to Miami, Florida, takes off from New York Penn Station. Today's consist is HHP-8 660, a baggage car, 3 Viewliner sleepers, a Heritage diner car, an Amfleet II cafe, and 4 Amfleet II coaches.     Good view of the equipment. I looked to see if the Heritage diner was former SP Sunset stock and it was not. In 2000 I rode from South Florida to DC and our dining car was very obviously built for the Sunset Limited. The stainless steel name plaque's original paint had been removed by Amtrak but you could easily make out the still obvious Sunset Limited logo. If any of the Sunset stock is still in service it would now be approaching 60 years of use.

    Amtrak silver meteor with ex-up Coach 5518 made in 1961 you are clear to depart over and out.

    You would be correct. 7021 with 7 additional ML's and 4603 pushing them into the station.

    What kind of engine is that?? I usually catch Train #97 in Winter Park Florida and by that time it is being pulled by two engines not at all like that one...
