Could just make a bonnet scoop out of some scrap just like a slot one over the hole, that way no rain will get in it and you will benefit from the ram air as it can only go in to the turbo.
Physics says the faster the air moves the lower pressure it creates. Without a scoop you’re actually making a low pressure zone over your intake and hindering your airflow. And it’s not an airflow expert, it’s fluid dynamics. 🤪
Edit: you’ll build up better pressure using a protruding scoop than a naca duct. Maybe make one you can run backwards on the street to keep rain out but use symmetric mounting bolts so you can rotate the scoop to face forward at the track.
Ram Air ONLY works when it actually faces the direction that air will be flowing into it. Otherwise, as you have it now it will create a negative airpressure space as air flows over that pipe just stuck up like that. Simply add another forward facing cone to create a TRUE Ram Air effect. Increasing the diameter of the cone will very simply increase the Ram Air effect.

Yep, first 2-3x of my life. Probably still end up doing it on the MR2T just because it’ll be easier than trying to do it any other way on a midengine car with no lift.

Not a bad idea. The TRD Strut Brace makes a nice X that crosses just above the trans, too. If I use two or more of them I can get some attitude control, as well.

@Cooper Bogetti When installing the trans by yourself, get some 4-6" bolts and cut off the heads. Put them in the bellhousing, then slide the trans onto it. Once its in you replace with the real bolts. Just a couple will make it alot easier.
Damn I never thought of that. All the time on my back taking my glide in and out swapping converters. I’m in the shop right now cutting bolts down. 😂

Man has come a long ways since the days I used to bench press my M-22 rock crusher into my 79 z 28 every other weekend.
Get a set of longer bolts cut the head off and cut a slot for a flat head. Use them as guides for putting the trans in when your by yourself! It helps a ton!

Is the 2J on solid engine mounts? Will that intake move around with chassis/engine flex? The hood hole may need to be larger to accommodate...
I was thinking the same, and then he cut it...
even on rigid mounts, the car still flex, it'll move at least 1/4" even on solid mount

For trans install we have for many years used some ready rod(one end ground to a square) treaded into the engine block. Bring trans up to them, slide it onto the rods,(many times lift front of engine to lower the back for space)adjust splines, slide trans in place, couple bolts to keep it together, unthread our ready rod guides, and finish bolting them together.
I never expected Cooper to do this type of work, when he was with Cleetus, he never seemed to be into mechanical work. Just shows , never judge a book by it's cover.
Dude thats a good idea... but what you should do is make a fiberglass scoop for it and curve that pipe forward ... hell yea. And throw a really sweet paint job on that too.

Make sure it’s a continuous duty solenoid cause they do make a momentary duty for things like starters

Coop, I wish you would keep a floor jack under each end of the car for added safety especially when you are all alone in the garage. Those jack stands are known to kick out when pushing pulling and tugging on stuff.

yooo cooper, the intake is not really the best idea since the air is gonna just want to flow across the intake tube instead of actually going in there. you'd need another elbow to make some sort of RAM air intake, that would work, but what you did there will most likely hurt performance on the big end when the air is moving really fast, you should reconsider that and have an eye on it! keep going!
i was just wondering about the flow going right past that intake . i would add a small little scoop for rain protection anyways personally.

I used a motorcycle jack and some 2x4's under it to put the trans back in my evo a few times on jackstands.

Cooper just put a rubber gromet on the hood cut, it'll make the cut look even, and keep air from bleeding into the engine bay.

Someone with a 3d printer should be able to make you a scoop. At least a mold that you can maybe weld one with at least. Keep up the work!
Drift style? No Cooper, Tractor Style...lol. I sold a kazillion of those to farmers. On the red power distribution strip, take out the left mounting screw, raise up that side and redrill the hole, and bolt it in straight. Everyone's ACD just went bat shit crazy. Good video, be safe Cooper.
I’m sure you won’t see this but you gotta put a scoop that covers the intake so you get an actual ram air intake and at the same time if it’s raining the intake will be out of the elements while it’s sitting. A 8x8 square scoop that’s about 2.5 inches should be mint for it

I used to have a 91 DA teg with a turbo B18C painted exactly the same as that 240
just so you know. That starter solenoiid is designed for momentary high loads and will carry a lot of amps until it burns up or you turn it off then if its hot it will not come back on until cool. Found it out with my Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump, NAPA has an 80A constant duty relay about the same size that will handle at least 100A

One thing I see that I would add just to save yourself some headaches is a fuse panel. If one of those wires works loose and grounds out your car could be a smoldering mess

Personally I'd fabricate some sort or scoop to sit on the back side of the pipe coming out of the hood to more efficiently direct air right into where it needs to go after you flush cut it. I think it would look pretty neat and be as equally functional as air would really be sent into there especially during a high mph pass. Regardless of that, it is a good modification as far as the whole IAT thing goes.

Careful pulling all that power through that solenoid if it isn't constant duty. Starter solenoids are intermittent duty. I burned up a starter solenoid just running electric fans off of it, switched to constant duty and haven't had a problem since

Make sure that solenoid is continuous duty cycle, starter solenoids won't last long being constantly engaged.
