The 22 gallon recommendation is probably in reference to synodontis nigriventris, which is the variety I see most often in fish stores. They top out around 3"-4"
I have one and they only eats at night so I feed my Oscars twice during the day & I put shrimp pellets at night along with flakes so the catfish will be able to eat varies of food .
Do upside down catfish and loaches get along? I currently have my upside down catfish in a 32.5 gallon but I had planned on moving it to a 125 gallon once it reached a certain weight. My boyfriend has a empty 90 gallon but I feel like I should move my upside down catfish sooner than later. Do you think they will be fine? My catfish is currently in a tank with a mini pleco and there has been no issues, in fact I’ve seen them hangout with each other a few times. I think it’s because he’s lonely and the pleco is the only other bottom dweller. It’s a single upside down catfish but I do plan on getting another just for some company and I know they are a type of schooling fish. I intentionally bought two but the one didn’t make it. I really want to move it like ASAP but I’m scared the loaches and the upside down catfish won’t get along. If anything, I’m worried about the loaches bugging my upside down catfish, not the other way around. Should I move him and just keep an eye and see what happens? I guess there isn’t any harm in trying. I mean, if they don’t get along, that’ll just motivate me even more to prep that 90 gallon, and he can always go back to the 32.5 gallon for a temporary home. I’m also a new fish hobbyist and I had no idea about catfish and other bottom dwellers sometimes not getting along. I hope they’ll be fine 🤞🏼
Haha my bristlenose rules the tank when it comes to my two upside-down catfish. They sometimes try to hide in the same spot as the bristlenose, and he'll kick them right out when they start getting rambunctious. They typically only start to swim about the tank at around midnight, and hide pretty well the rest of the time.
My upside-down buddy spent 3 years in a tank with 2 plecos with zero issues. Was I just lucky? In the same tank was a pictus & three goldfish, they all got along well.
The first video was of a synodontis eupterus feather fin catfish and the second was of a synodontis nigriventris there is a difference I have both and they are pretty cool
I have one and I’ve called her Dottie she hangs out in the day on my filter side .. I love it when she swims upside down she is friendly to my other fish I have hiding places but she love it there ….
That was squeaker catfish at 2:07 I gifted mine 4 to 5 years ago, it was highly aggressive even towards full grown Oscars, parrots and tinfoils. Once they get settled in your aquarium then they become highly territorial and agressive towards all fishes. I'll never keep them again in my life.

I've always wondered why. Good theory.
mine is woth two plecos and a rapheal catch fish and he leaves everyone alone
If you can find surplus industrial shelving (like what Home Depot uses) you could stack them.
I’ve seen upside down catfish at petsmart!

I have upside down cats with a bristlenose pleco and it works for me

dude i just did the same 😅😅
Keen to see this 20 foot ply tank
Yeah...its NOT an upside down cat. They come from the same family but upside down cats look completely different! It's a lace cat.
They love hiding also, only really see at night or during feeding.
how about a 42 gallon hexagon tank?
I believe the fish at 2:07 is actually a synodontis eupterus a.k.a 'featherfin squeaker' not an upside down catfish
@Julius Moore relax
@Julius Moore its the difference between a 3 inch fish vs 11 inch fish..
