  • The action from a 2 day race meeting at Castle Combe, an event that this year in particular I had really been looking forward to.
A visit from the BARC is something that Castle Combe hasn't seen in a short while (for example I know the last visit for the Caterham Graduates was all the way back in 2018), but it was so refreshing to have some of their very competitive championships get a full weekends racing in.
Fortunately, this weekend did not disappoint; nail-bitingly close racing from plenty of categories always results in us getting a good video since everyone is jostling to be on the top step of the podium...
Unfortunately there were a good number of bad accidents this weekend, most of which were fairly harmless. However, during the second GT race on
Saturday, what appears to have been a brake failure or something of the sort resulted in an awfully scary accident. The cars hit the wall with such force that the armco moved back nearly two feet, and as a result quarry was put under permanent yellows for the rest of the day (which is why a few clips are from Camp corner). Thankfully, both drivers involved were uninjured, but understandably so, have requested I not release the footage of the incident, and that I shall respect. I wish them both well with their futures in motorsport, I know one of them is already keen to get going again!
Apologies for the wind noise, felt like a tornado had hit us early Saturday, it does get better as the video goes on!

Can confirm it was a brake failure, well done for checking about posting the footage (which I did too and is the correct thing to do) as it was a horrific accident, actually painful to watch but glad everyone is okay. Gutted for the Audi driver as she was going so well in mixed conditions.

The barriers here are one of the best investments Combe have made, saved hundreds of cars in the last few years. You’re fine to use the footage!

Footage of the accident is already out there so.....fat lot of good that did eh?
IMO if everyone is ok it's better to get the footage out so everyone can learn from the incident and try to ensure it doesn't happen again, censoring it just makes it into a "streisand effect", a "forbidden fruit" that makes everyone want to see it more

I get that and do agree with you, but if someone asks me to not post it then I won’t ignore the request.

I get where you are coming from with Lessons and LfE learning positive and negative lessons and yes there is a lot to take away from this accident and embedding those lessons into practice. That said, as this accident was monstrous and yes everyone escaped ok it is polite and courteous to check with individuals concerned if footage can be shared and if they don't want it posted, this must be respected. The chap here has done absolutely the right thing. Alternatively (and a conversation would have to be had with the two involved to approve) is to see whether this footage could be shared to the club (or Motorsport UK) separately (limited distribution) to aid Marshall training which would be valuable learning.
