I would then see them peaking at 37.5km (40km if they like a nice round number) in 5 to 5 and half months then a taper for a couple of weeks. The 100 miler is another story but is really only safely achievable for us average Joes if we are already 50km fit as a baseline to starting. Thank you so much for the feedback and info. I have definitely been pushing my limits by ramping so quick...not something I would typically do. I am also thinking the switch from Saucony's to Hoka's with no break in time (first run in them was 16 miles) may also have something to do with it. I switched back to my Saucony's this week and I'm already felling much better. Swimming is a great idea. I swim a lot in summer, but haven't been doing it lately...I need to find a heated pool. Good series man. I just discovered it this morning. Actually in the process of training for my first ever ultra. Shooting for 50 miles. You did ramp up fast on those long runs. I understand why you did though and I think you did a great job listening to your body and taking a step back. I have been following the ten percent rule and actually started around November 1. My long runs are only at 11- 12 right now. And because I'm only prepping for 50 I'm not doing back to backs. This is dang inspiring though man. I'm also a busy dad so seeing you train and engage with your family is great! Keep it up! I'll be following you. Your race is in March?

Really happy to follow here and on Strava!! Keep up the good job! The itself process of getting there is the most important! Enjoy the ride :D Oh yeah, those terrains are just simply mind blowing!! Lucky you :D
I have been wondering if switching from my Saucony's to the Hoka's may have aggravated it. Thinking maybe I should trying running in my Saucony's for a week and see how I feel. Thanks for the thoughts!
@@CjayeMedia For what I understand, reading here and there, that could be a cause🤓. Too much cushioning, and your brain-muscles connections are unwired. Shoe drop factor is not the cause, I presume = 4 and 5 mm drop respectively for Hokas vs Kinvaras (or something similar). So only thing is that maxi outsole in Hokas. Heels didn't 'gave back' that 'terrain kiss' response enough to the brain. So he played it safe and stiffened calf region. All is (self) learning process, baby steps :D Btw, for me Clifton's toe box had not enough space (despite 1 size up as usual). That's my main issue with Hokas. How's with you? If you're cool, maybe exchanging them between each 2nd or 3rd run should be enough for body adjustments :)
I think you are right. I ran this morning in my Saucony’s and feel good right now. I’m thinking I will run in them for the next week and then start switching in the Hoka’s on my short runs and walks. Thanks so much for the info. I will let you know how I profess.

What would your advice be for someone who has not ran long distance ever an has little motivation but wants to start running but when I have in the past I have lost interest an motivation. Any advice let me know. Enjoying your videos.
I would say to start slow but set an achievable goal. Something that is a little bit of a stretch but can be achieved in a few months or less. Maybe start with a 5k or 10k race. I like to pick a race and then put together a training plan in a calendar format in Google sheets or excel. Something that I can use to plan and track. There are a ton of free training plans online. I’ve really enjoyed your series. I had wanted to run an ultra but gave up on my dreams. That was 3 years ago now I’m wanting to try again. I could use some advice. I was thinking about doing a 50k then a month later do a 59 miler. Let me know. I’m 48 too if that matters
Thank Gary. The races close together can be hard, but if you train for it then you should be able to do it. I did a 100K a month before the 72 hour ultra and was fine. How long until the 50k?
Hey Vlad! I am planning on doing the Avalon 50k in January and then a 24 hour run in March. I will probably do 50 miles at the 24 hour race because it’s three weeks before my race
Hmmm. Not sure. That’s 1.2 miles...haven’t tested that in a long time. I ran a 5k warm up at the track last week and averaged 7:30’s per 1600m but that wasn’t an all out effort.
I’m not a fast runner. I really only started running in my 30’s....about 10 years ago. I have been running long distances mostly the last few years and haven’t focused much on speed. How about you?
I think the only time I ran 2k was a cross country race a few months ago where we made a wrong turn and cut the race short a few km..😂. I just started running seriously a few months ago myself and am documenting my journey similiar to your goal on your channel.

Hey out of curiosity what music are you using as background in this video?
I use a service called Epidemic Music.www.epidemicsound.com. Do you want to know that artists?
The slower to male vocal songs are from Cody Francis. It'll Be Alright & Honey Take My Hand.
That was the song I was thinking of. Thanks for the response!
When do you work?
Ha. From 7am to 5pm during the week.
Heard so many boxers/MMA fighters having great experiences using CBD for recovery. Never really heard anythong bad about it. I'd say try it out man
I have been using it this week on my legs and it really works. I can definitely feel a reduction in pain. I’m sold!
what’s your 2k time?
Hmmm.
Great content btw I enjoy watching your videos :)
