Great "How to" video, Matthew! I'm an experienced Mech Eng, but a novice when it comes to FEM. I was able to follow your video step-by-step and get the same results! Thanks for posting it.

Surface to Surface Contact and Mesh Mating are 2 totally different things and are used to carry out different things.
Surface to Surface Contact is used in the Simulation to define Contact between 2 separate bodies / meshes that otherwise would pass through each other. This is what was used in this analysis to define that the 2 plates cannot pass through each other and come into contact with each other.
Mesh Mating is used to define a meshing definition between 2 individual bodies etc. during the Finite Element Modelling. It is to ensure mesh continuity. Free coincident means that the nodes generated on 2 individual bodies will been coincident but the nodes will not be merged. You would then have to carry out a separate command to merge the nodes if required within the simulation. If they are not merged then glue would have to be applied to the joint during simulation to ensure no rigid body motion took place.
    Hope this helps?

    Thanks!
    What is the difference between:
Surface-to-Surface Contact VS Mesh Mating Condition - Free Coincident.

Hi Matthew! Thank you very much for this example. It was very useful to me. Can you please send me the CAD model?

    Hi Matt,
Great video. If you're still active, is there any way I could pick your brain about doing a similar analysis but differently?
looking to model the sheering forces on 2 bolts, with a force applied at a third point? is this possible in NX?

      Hello Kyle,
This is possible but in order to correctly model the shear force distribution, the bolts would have to be modelled as solids rather than with Rigid Connections & Beam Elements.
      Thanks Matt

Hi Matt! Thanks for the reply. Wasn't sure if you were going to see this lol.
Do you have any good resources (videos) for doing something similar? Not necessary modeling, more looking at different forces on bolts from a force applied somewhere else, using NX.
I see you don't have much stuff on RUclips, maybe a different platform?

Could you upload same video with composite material? Or some basic video "How to create composite material in NX"

Hi Matthew! Thanks a lot for making this helpful video:) I have just a few questions about bolted structures and their dynamic response using NX Nastran. Where can I ask my questions ?? :) on this your youtube post ?? :) or I have to send you an Email ? (cause I don't have any other social links with you my friend :/ )
